Re: Larry Johnson Cut
Chad Simpson is a better special teamer and 3rd down back than either LJ or Torain. Therefore it's a great pickup. He is probably the best kick returner we have now as well. Local product. Has 4.4 speed. Why not?
LJ was just Shawn Alexander Part Deux... |
Re: Larry Johnson Cut
According to this article, Simpson could pose a threat to Devin Thomas as a return man, possibly sending him to the unemployment line.
Apparently.
Reed Doughty made Jammal Brown commit that false start Doughty told Phillip Buchanon to not worry about Andre Johnson on that TD pass He's the reason why Fred Davis didn't block Bernard Pollard Doughty told Haslett to go crazy with the blitzing, and forget about coverage Did I miss anything else? Re: Larry Johnson Cut
If he beats out Thomas as KR--which I think he can and will--then what is the point of keeping Thomas? He is clearly behind Williams and Armstrong so as a 5th receiver he needs to be stellar on special teams. I could have swore he fumbled a kickoff last week (he recovered it back) and he made a bad decision taking a kick out deep out of the endzone. I would not be surprised at all to see Thomas cut in a few weeks if he does not show something over the next few games.

LJ was just Shawn Alexander Part Deux...
Cutting ability matters much more than top end speed. If Simpson can make killer cuts, good for him and good for the Redskins. |
Re: Larry Johnson Cut
He took Tatum Bell in the 2nd round.
He also used Bell and George Foster (another bust) to get a draft pick and Dre Bly. Now, Bly's actual value may not have been that great, but his perceived value then was probably pretty good. |

LJ was just Shawn Alexander Part Deux...
Shaun's first run was 8 yards. He was more effective then LJ. These facts about Simpson sound promising...DT's doing great on returns but he's going to be a busy WR soon enough and probably off return duty. If Banks doesn't step up, sounds like this Simpson guy can fill the role. |

Didn't they say they were going to get better on the ground and make a shift to more physical offensive lineman, then proceeded to go into this year with the exact same line that closed out last year?
Following the Super Bowl loss to New Orleans, team president Bill Polian publicly criticized the offensive line, which failed to open a big enough hole on third-and-1 late in the first half to allow the Colts to run out the clock. Or get the Colts into the end zone from the Saints 3. So Polian spent the offseason remodeling an offensive line that has traditionally ranked among the league's best in quarterback protection. Polian released starting guard Ryan Lilja in March, then uncharacteristically signed two veteran free agents - neither of whom made the team. The project continued on draft weekend when he took guard Jacques McClendon in Round 4 and blocking tight end Brody Eldridge in Round 5, and last week, the Colts cut ties with former second-round pick Tony Ugoh - once labeled their left tackle of the future. Doesn't really relate to Chad Simpson, I just found it confusing that after all his talk about rebuilding the line, they ended up with virtually the exact same players minus two backups with starting experience |

Re: Larry Johnson Cut
LaVar's WashPost blog "hard hits" is taking some hard hits from the Redskin faithful over his comments about the team cutting LJ, among other things. The readers reaction I don't find surprising.
Torain promotion hopefully?
We can't just carry 3 TBs. edit: Nevermind, never heard of Chad Simpson. Hopefully he runs like O.J.
are we talking O.J. as a Bill or O.J. with the Bronco? |
Re: Larry Johnson Cut
You need your 2nd string rb to play teams and LJ doesn't. Plus he sucks at pass pro and isn't a threat out of the backfield. Maybe Houston or Green Bay picks him up but other then that I'd say he's done.
Based on what you said why would Houston want him? Green Bay either for that matter. |
