This organization is being flushed down the toilet.

I am of the camp that you pay the large bonuses to the superior DE's and shutdown corners, and than spend the remaining amounts on the LB's as far as defensive spending goes. But lets say we give the large money to Briggs - what is the DL looking like as far as protecting the LB's - not too good in my opinion. With the amount of money already spent on Washington and Fletcher wouldn't it be more prudent to spend the money up front on the DL? Or if you really want to give a $20 million bonus away why not focus on a shutdown CB to prepare for the eventual departure of Springs? |

We're going to invest probably more than one pick on it, and IMO it will be the theme of the Redskins in the draft. How nice would it be to trade down and get two first round DL choices. |

The guaranteed money for corners is now even higher thanks to Clements. I'd like to see the DL addressed as well, but the offseason is far from over so I'm not going to get too crazy just yet. |
Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
I wouldnt argue with us picking all D line in this draft. Our offense is gonna be pretty good this year as it is. We just need depth on defense and things will change quickly

Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
lets see what we'd have to give up to get johnson before we start freaking out
|
Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
I think it would be hard to make any true assessment of the trade until we find out what we end up with with the #31 pick

Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
How about we sign Ian Scott, and wait until the draft to rape some team of their picks. $20 mil guaranteed to Briggs is not a good look IMO. We didn't want to give Dock $18 up front (which I don't think he should've gotten from the Skins) but here Briggs will get $20 ? Makes no sense to me.

Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
Im actually loving all of this. Last year we get Lloyd, Randel el, Archuleta and Carter and everyone is raving oh my god the FO office is great and jumps on their d**k. Then the season comes, we blow, everyone jumps off, and the bitching and moaning begins. This year I hope they do the one thing that everyone hates the most which looks like getting Briggs or CJ. Then we kick a** this year, make the playoffs, and everybody climbs back on Mr.Winky.

So you're enjoying the comedy as much as I am? People are retarded, football, politics, whatever it may be... one of the great truths of life is just that. We're all retarded. |
Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
Holmster I'm all for CJ, but Briggs ? No sir. If he was a free agent I'd understand but a guy who wants to leave his team mainly because he wants a big payday, don't want him. Especially if have to drop alot of bread for him.

Like Clinton Portis? |
Re: Maske/JLC: Gibbs Hints Redskins Might Trade Up
You got me but it's a different situation. Briggs isn't to linebackers what Portis was to running backs when he came in. I could see if Briggs was Urlacher, then I understand but he isn't. He doesn't fill a "need". As far as the Portis deal, Champ wanted to go and Denver wanted him. The Skins needed a running back at the time so Portis came along in the deal. Was Portis going to sit for the year ? Can't remember but wasn't he going to make less than $1 mil that year ? What's Briggs slated to make about $7.5 ?

If your a linebacker in the NFL. You've gone to two pro-bowls... you really want to make your money soon. I mean your one freak injury away from losing your big day. He's got his pay-day in his grasp, and Chicago franchised him and that really pisses him off. It would piss me off as well, and I don't think it directly reflects anything about his character. The NFL is a business, and business wise that's a smart choice. I have no problem with his decisions. As far as filling the needs, I understand that. But the same kind of philosophical thinking that goes into the "draft the best player available", is it that much of a stretch when a pro-bowl young quality proven linebacker is on the market? Get him because he's there. I tend to dis-agree with this thinking, but when the offer is on the table to loiter around inside your head... the idea sounds better and better. |

Chicago's FO is known for being cheap and not willing to protect their players. He also asked not to be franchised and they did it anyways. It's not like with Dwight Freeney who gets franchised and the owner comes out and says he guarantees the long term deal will be done before the end of the season. Plus if the FO wants the 31st pick they must have their eye on someone who will be around late and not think that anyone going early is worth the pick. If we get briggs i think its one of 3 reasons... 1. Marcus's hip injury is more serious then anyone thought and he needs a replacement. 2. Rocky is retarded and cant get a grasp on GW's complicated defense. or 3. (please be this) GW is looking to go to the 3-4. Now remember, last year when his cover 2 schemes were getting raped down the middle he said that the defense could go under major changes. So imagine this... we get briggs, draft tank tyler for nose guard, plenty of rotation on the DL and have lb's Rocky, Fletcher, Briggs, Washington, and Marshall to rotate. I dont know if you guy's have noticed but Rocky can flat out fly so picture him comin from outside to the QB all day. (Merriman who?) |
