Thanks Smoot! Good, I feel better. I can't wait to hear the official details of the deal.

Smoot, will he make immediate changes to scouts and FO personnel, or will he start his own evaluations? Wondering if negotiations are also about other personnel additions? His own assistants.

Good questions, and my thoughts from reading the article from ESPN on McCloughan is that he has guys in mind in terms of scouting, coaching, etc...

So, I would assume he would want to bring in his own guys for the scouting department, and I'd say by all means, let him do it. The question is, does his GM responsibilities just go player personnel deep, or will he have say over coaching staff, trainers, color of the seats, color of the uniforms, etc.....

Re: Scot McCloughan to be new Redskins GM

If he is a real GM, then Gruden is probably on a little bit of shaky ground because McCloughan didn't hire him.

schneed - my layperson opinion is that Allen has done a good job not handcuffing future caps with bad back loaded contracts. We also have some under performing or injured vets that can be cut at no real cap penalty.

are our present and future cap obligations in a very good position for McC to have a lot of freedom and options? i feel like for the first time in a long time, we have room and are not pressed up against the cap.
Yeah we should be in OK shape. Each year in the foreseeable future there are enough contracts expiring that will allow for some room to maneuver. That said we won't have the most room in the league. But you don't hire McCloughan if your intent is to build through free agency. This is clearly a pivot to the draft, and we'll have enough cap room to make a few key moves in free agency.

Don't expect an overnight fix by any stretch. Our roster is so bad. Scot will have to cycle through a few drafts before we're competitive again.

having a full and legit personnel staff would be awesome.

i could never understand how we have this rich owner who will do anything to win .... yet it is like pulling teeth to get him to invest in the scouting dept or add amenities to Fed Ex.

i also really want to know scott campbells draft grades. can someone call wikileaks and make this happen?

schneed - thanks. can you tell me your grade of BA just on his ability to manage the cap? id put it at a B.

I was not comparing the two to each other. There is thread about Amerson and talk of what do with Garcon in here.

Neither points were brought up by me. I am just commenting they seem like moot points to me.

There will be some immediate changes, but I expect many won't come until after the draft at the earliest

I like PG and would like to keep him.
But if our cap spreadsheet is accurate PG, DJax and Andre Roberts will account for $23.20million of our cap next season. That is not the salary structure I want for a non playoff team that can't do the basics of protecting its Qb's and covering WR in this pass happy league. We do not need Ferrari's in the garage when we do not have money for gasoline. We have to learn to tie our shoes and learn to walk before we can run. Some difficult changes have to happen at WR salary cap wise. Jus sayin.

Wait, so the coach cannot cut a player without checking with SM? Wow.

Strikes me as a bit odd but, hopefully, Gruden and he can work through any big issues.

Clearly, the keys to the car were just handed to Mr. McCloughan.

Let's just hope we don't get a DWI. (I kid, I kid!)

This is the best thing I've seen in a LONG time. He should be f'n embarrassed and should have been for the better part of the past 15 years. I want to believe that he will stay away and just let things happen but I've been down this road too many times to get fooled by January proclamations. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm sure his contract guarantees him full control. Regardless, Danny tends to not interfere with those he trusts/respects.

This is great news! Finally a real football guy with a proven track record being in charge of the 53 man roster! I'm sure he also has jurisdiction over the coaching staff as well. Will be interesting to see what he does with that.

I'm assuming Bruce Allen will still negotiate contracts?

The passive aggressive approach. It's always the best and nothing ever goes wrong when you lead through passive aggressiveness.

And lets be honest, people love hear from other people through a lacky. Thats how you build respect as leader.

As an example, Ill never forget meeting a new executive in the office who had been partnered with larger group who was going to be working in close proximity to me and our small group of 5. Now when didnt report nor really gave 2 sh*ts about this person. On the walk through we small talked, smiled, laugh and even shared a joke about a fellow co worker we both happened to know. It was great. Later that day a guy came up to me and said "Hey El Chico, dumb b*tch would prefered if you lowered the curtain in the office so it will match with the rest of the floor."

I remember looking at my co worker and telling them how much I respected this new person and how I will hate f*ck her if given the privilage.

Of course -- because it's the Redskins, we broke a rule in hiring Scot McCloughan: Washington Redskins may have skirted Rooney Rule with GM hire - ESPN

What a dumb non-story -- nothing to see here. I wonder whether this even becomes news if it's about any other team.
