Definitely Werth.
Is Chein-Ming Wang still on the Nats' roster? He's been rehabbing for years if so. |
which is going to be the worst contract for the Nats: Jason Werth or Ryan Zimmerman? Werth was a bad signing, Zim is a much better player...but that was a ton of money. Zim stays banged up.
In the long run, Werth, but lets be honest, nobody should expect him to be here for 7 years. As far as immediate, Ryan Zimmerman. The guy has been consistently injured and has shown no signs of getting away from them. Throw in now the production drop in defense and offense. I mean at least when Werth was slumping his D was good, Zimmerman isn't even doing that. With who we have in the minors, I thought it would have been a good choice to try and trade Zimmerman. |

A few errors don't mitigate the overall quality of his play defensively. And seriously... they're not even a third of the way into the season and you're already calling it a "production drop". Really? |

I expect his production at least in the top 10 at 3rd, he's being paid as a top 5 3rd-bman. |

Yes, I am. We paid him BIG money and he's done NOTHING to show for it. We complained about Werth last season, Zimmerman deserves the same scrutiny. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Nationals are a joke when it comes to pitching to HR hitters. First base open and you don't pitch around Stanton? No logic whatsoever.

Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
orioles leading division w no team under .500
nats leading division w only one team under .500 last time orioles had a winning season, i was in middle school. i wasn't alive the last time they won the series. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Damn you Brad Lidge. You are just as bad as a reliever as you were as the closer. Anytime he comes in the game I feel like it's a 50/50 proposal as to whether or not we escape the inning without giving up 1 or more runs.

i feel you there, but at least they were in a spot to win the game in the bottom of the inning. and if harper were a little older he would know better than to swing on the first pitch with two on in the bottom of the 14th. let's hope they get one today, they've only been swept twice this year. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Lot of rumors circulating this morning that Lidge has been released. No confirmation yet

Damnit! I blame that ump for the 4 1/2 extra innings of sunburn I got sitting in the centerfield stands yesterday. Then again, S happens. |

Yup. Nothing to do now but move on to the next game. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Nats are on the skids while the O's are on a streak. Unfortunate that the Yankees have taken first though. Still happy that the Sox are in the cellar, though I could see that changing once they get more players off the DL.
The good thing though is that the entire NL East has been blowing hard during interleague play so the Nats are still in the lead. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
one thing i love about l.a., not as many yankees or red sox fans as in md.
one unfortunate thing about l.a., too many cowboys fans. |

Johnson, on whether he has any intention of meeting with Maddon: "No, I don't know him that well, but I thought he was a weird wuss anyway, so no. I understand where he's coming from. His job as a manager is to protect the players, striking out at whoever is causing your players any grievance." Think people are a little intimadated by Maddon, obviously not Johnson breaking out the ole "W" word. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Seems Maddon was particularly pissed that Davey Johnson violated "unwritten" rules by using insider knowledge. And Nats pitchers will probably be extra scrutinized for a while.
But I like how the Nats are kind of making enemies. This plus Cole Hamels incident from earlier. We're pissing people off instead of being a comical afterthought. That's a good sign |

And I don't really think pine tar is as widespread in baseball as Maddon would have us believe. I think he's just pissed Peralta got caught. |

This for sure. If pine tar on pitchers' gloves was more rampant, they would have been cracked down on long ago. |

Wow tough loss for the Nats today. Wieters finally starting to live up to all that hype...

Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Youk getting traded is a dagger. I love that guy for a long time.
I am glad I am not a kid in this day and age of sports. It is hard to have a home town hero to grow up with. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
I'm a White Sox fan and Youk is my LEAST favorite player in MLB. I can't stand to look at his batting stance.
 Feels as bad as when the ChiSox got Manny! But on the bright side, we're in first place and doing this to try to clinch that postseason spot. At least we're not sellers this year. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
the nats are killing it out in the rockies, i hope they take their bats with them when they leave. the past few nights have been a treat to watch, tyler moore looks like he could be a real hitter in the bigs.
|
Thin air and a crappy opponent. Lets hope to see some more consistency out of the bats.

Don't forget the horrible pitching staff. All the same though, it's nice to see them win consecutive laughers. I just hope it continues once they leave Colorado. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Nats in a slugfest with the Rockies right now.
Terrible first inning for the Nats...but great play by Zim here |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
I must've missed that earlier. Just started watching when they came back 9-9. Coming back from being down 7-0, they deserve kudos for that. I hope they've got one more comeback in them though, they are still down 10-9.

Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Not a fan of REplays?
I'm happy to see Jim Thome off the Phillies. He's my favorite current player but I can't stand Philly, plus he belongs in the AL so he can get at-bats...he can still smash. He has always hit very well at Camden Yards. |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
Zimmerman. Play of the year.
And Monkey, being from PA, that's like treasonous isn't it? Don't say that in Philly, they'll come out and stab you. :D |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
duplicate gifs on the same page, doesn't get any better.
that was a great play by zim thome is now garbage, any player who was on the griffey for 64 is done |
Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012
So Harper makes the ASG as a replacement for Stanton. Anybody suprised? I might be in the minority amongst fellow Nats fans here, but I think the time off with his family might have served him better. Sure it's exciting that a 19 year old position player that plays for my favorite team is making it (youngest ever position player in history!) but I think this move is more about the hype than the "crazy" stats he's putting up. I'll still be watching but I agree more with Davey Johnson than I do with all my fellow fans that are stoked to see him become an All-Star at 19.
