NFL is taking away millions of dolllar of salary-cap space from Cowboys and Redskins for how they front-loaded deals during uncapped year. great....
Wtf? |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
36 million getting taken away from Redskins... can be split between 2012 and 2013, however we want.
Sweeeeeeeeeet. |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
nm was beat to the punch.
|
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
That is utterly insane. can the amount be appealed?
|
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
WHOA! Thats quite a bit. Gonna make Free Agency a lot harder for us now.
Even if it can be appealed the timing basically neuters us... |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
36 mil lost. Frickin ouch!
|
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
They should've thought of this before they made the trade. No we're really ****ed.
|
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
Well I can see a ton of cuts coming. This is utter bullsh*t for us and the Cowboys IMO. Did the league warn of what the consequences would be? How 'bout these f*ckers don't have an uncapped year then.
So that leaves us with what, $13 mil of cap space? (Assuming we had $31 mil of cap space per PFT and that they split the $36 mil in two years) |
They should've thought of this before they made the trade. No we're really ****ed.
I dont really see how one thing has to do with the other... |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
a) How is this remotely fair? Shouldn't the NFL (a collection of owners) have set the rules regarding this before the uncapped year started?
b) How is this remotely fair that this is announced the day before free agency starts, rather than weeks ago? |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
That is f-ed up... 36 million dollars of salary cap space for front-loaded deals during uncapped year.
The nfl is just making rules up as they go along. |

And it sounds like the money we have to give back will be given to other teams for them to spent on their free agency. Sounds like a big hott pile of bullshit to me. Wonder if the redskins had any idea this was coming? |

They don't I can't understand how the league would approve the contract restructures of Haynesworth and Hall, then turn around and say it's obvious you were trying to circumvent the rules...so we're going to punish you |
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
I don't think I am being a blatant homer when I think this is serious BS. I can't even comprehend how the league could possibly do this. No actual rules were broken and isn't telling teams things like they league supposedly did ripe for a collusion charge?
|
Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
that's a lot of money... I'd load up on sub 3mill/year guys and take as much off the books as possible. I'd still try to trade out carr for hall though.

Re: Redskins 2011 Salary Cap Status
I can assure the accuracy of this $35.25 number reconciled with the official NFL report from yesterday.
There will be no accounting for the $36 million penalty here because the Redskins can just pay whatever remains on their 2012 cap (if the penalty stands at all). Awesome...So this was negotiated into the new CBA right? Wait, what? No? You mean they're just making this up as they go? No way! It wasn't part of the CBA...plain and simple. The league strong-armed the NFLPA into agreeing to this. They extorted them essentially. The facts are this. The Skins and other teams took advantage both legally and in the spirit of a CBA tool meant to punish one or both sides for allowing the uncapped year to happen. Many owners colluded to strip said tool of the power it held from a labor standpoint. The league allowed the contracts in spite of the fact that there was an agreement not do allow such behavior. It cannot be stated more clearly...the league is punishing two teams, entirely without regard for the other teams in the league that acted similarly, for not engaging in an illegal labor negotiating ploy. The argument that what they did created competitive imbalance, while on it's face pretty dubious, is completely irrelevant. THAT WAS WHAT THE UNCAPPED YEAR WAS INTENDED TO DO. |

Anyone care to explain where JLC is getting these numbers? I wonder if he meant these are the cap numbers with the cap penalties.

You're right about everything you said, but in the end, the league can pretty much do whatever they want. It's not fair, but it is what it is.

I was just thinking of something with this $18 million crap. Isn't it really $19.6 million because of the extra $1.6 million or whatever it was that every other team got that we didn't get. That extra $1.6 million is already added in to the $120 million cap number. |

Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status
If you consider the cap penalty, the Redskins currently have just $9.52 million in remaining cap room. The Redskins have the flexibility to increase that number considerably.
But that's only enough to resign our current free agents. With Dwight Lowery going off the market and with the LB and RB markets being slow to develop, if we get Fletcher under contract pretty soon I would expect the Redskins to take a step back and try to get trade value for our excess of receivers. |

With Carriker, his 250,000 year 1 roster bonus is in there. With the others, it's just amortized signing bonus plus salary. Mostly just worried about finding out if there's any workout bonuses in there. |
