Probably more likely to keep Backus at LT now. Not for sure though

And I still think Trent Williams has the slight edge over Okung for us even if both are available.
so you would see us going w/Williams at 4? He should be around later than that I would think if they can trade back.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

Possibly still at 4 because KC and Seattle right below us also need OL

Why would Trent Williams have the edge over Okung? I heard Williams is a RT in the NFL, not a LT

I know you have inside info and a direct link to the mothership Smoot, but I just can't believe Trent Williams has a slight edge over Okung on any teams board.

Williams has several possible red flags. I don't get it?

Williams should be a good Tackle for a long time but if we take him and leave Okung on the board I will be left....once again, scratching my head.

Not sure what Williams brings over Okung... but both are top prospects at their positions.

SmootSmack 04-05-2010 04:44 PM

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

I'm not basing it on any inside info.

I just know that a)some believe Williams is actually a better fit for Shanahan's offense than Okung, b) Williams has the flexibility (LT and RT) that Shanahan has said he values c) Williams has only really played LT for one year and while most would say he's much better suited to play RT right now, they would also say he has the skills and talent to be a dominant LT and d) he's not as safe a choice as Okung but has tremendous upside (and downside as well) and that's just the type of risk that Shanahan tends to thrive on

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

I wonder what the likelihood would be of trading down and getting two first round picks instead of Okung? We could pick up two OL that way since we have limited picks in the draft after the McNabb deal.

In this case with so few picks, I would trade down if possible and acquire other picks. We have too many holes to patch, especially at LB and OL. I would sign Flozell for a year and pick up a RT and LT or a player that can play multiple positions in the line.

Well I guess they'll pick up Bradford. Campbell would be a good backup/stop gap for them as well. A high 3rd rounder? I'll take it.

they've got AJ Feely there as a stop gap

not giving up a 3rd rounder for a backup I don't think

Why do I have a feeling of us swapping our fourth overall pick now, for Brandon Marshall and Denvers 11th overall pick, and getting Trent Williams or Charles Brown or Bulaga

Could just be gas Colt. ;) I would be very surprised to see Shanny go after Marshall but after the events that have just taken place....anything is possible.

I get the feeling now that Bulger may be affecting a possible JC trade. Although it kinda makes sense for him (MB) to go with Martz to Chicago.

If I'm the Steelers I'd be on the phone with Bulger's agent. Bills too I suppose

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

I know that Shanahan said, not long after he came in, that we could get some more out of some of the players already on our roster. Maybe he thinks that we're okay in some of the areas that we're worried about. I don't think that we're done at all, but it's possible some areas that we expected to get addressed won't, due to that.

Good, he can teach the line Flo-kwon-do which basically centered around holds and trips.

The actual story from CSN (about Adams), with some other tidbits. Florio should just stick to being a news hub and keep his opinions to himself.

How many times has this been said on these boards and in how many different ways..........

I hope shanny and Bruce are listening to these boards. If not Okung, then the above seems the best route to go. But if we acquire even 1 additional pick before the 3rd, I think we should just take Okung at #4, and go BPA for the acquired pick.

I've been open to trying to bring in a lot of the older linemen that have visited and been rumored to sign with the Skins this off season. However I don't think I can bring myself to be ok with Flozell in burgundy and gold. Not the way he plays. Really dirty.

That's what reporters do man. I'm no Florio apologist but just the facts without speculation hasn't been in sports news for a long time. You'll find it in the Post, CSN, any source. We do plenty of it here too.
