As long as Jim Zorn is the HC, I, and I would hope most fans be behind him. Although I am not a fan of his work and what he has done here, he is still our coach. Although firing a HC mid season isn't a good idea, our situation calls for change. The lack of a sense of urgency is what is killing this team. I personally don't think Jim Zorn stands a chance at finishing the season due to the way Dan Snyder deals with HC's in the past that aren't named Joe Gibbs.

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Is Snyder really the media whore everyone claims him to be? I'd imagine he would be more like Jerry Jones if he was [a media whore].

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
I think Russ Grimm should be the next head coach, if Zorn is fired. We need a fresh start. Tired of old recycled coaches. We need new front office personnel as well that know what they are doing.

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
I really don't see the fascination with Russ Grimm. Loved him as a player, but we'd be trading an unknown, unproven head coach for another.

Its hard to get more fresh than Zorn was when he was hired. I think Zorn will finish out the season and depending on how the team finishes he might just stay. If they finish 4-12 then he's gone, 8-8 he stays. This team just doesnt have the talent on O so I really dont think any coach could come in here and do much better with what he'd have to work with. |

He's been coaching offensive lines for over ten years. And been an assistant head coach for.....................6 years or so. Unlike Zorn, all of this has been at the pro level. And look what he did to the Steelers offensive line when he was there. He had those guys playing smash mouth ball better than anyone in the league. He goes to Arizona, who had a horrendous line, and turns them around into one of the better lines in the league. Warner got killed in St. Louis, but he has time to throw in Arizona. You know why? Because of Russ baby! Bring in Russ! |

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Russ Grimm makes sense here if he has proven coordinators to support him. Otherwise, it really is a reach to just assume he will be successful as a head coach

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Zorn is clearly done.
He's damned if he wins (thanks to the consultant) and damned if he loses (there was nothing the consultant could do bc the team was just too far gone). I think he's in way over his head. Everyone likes him as a person, but he seems lost. he seems to get flustered/panicky on the sideline- which is symptomatic of someone who isn't ready to be a head coach. "What happened on that, it was the fourth-down call, and we're waiting for them to spot the ball," Zorn said. "Well, the clock's running, and I'm looking, I'm trying to call a play, but I don't know where they're going to spot the ball. I don't know if it's gonna be 4th-and-5, 4th-and-2, 4th-and-7, what was it gonna be. And so all's I could do was call timeout." Come on, the spread isn't 2-7 yards...everyone knows how close it was (roughly). Zorn said after the game that he would seek further clarification, but his special teams coordinator, Danny Smith, didn't disagree with the officials' ruling. In fact, he said the Redskins' similarly practice shoving a blocker into the punt returner, and Fox confirmed that it was not an accidental play on Teal's part. "Our guys are coached to do that," he said. "Anybody on special teams, our team, their team included. We understand that you can push a guy into the return team. It's a part of the game. You are able to block into them. That was an excellent play." why the hell are we challenging if we know this? danny smith seems like he's the smartest guy on the field. Zorn just doesn't get it |

How do you know this? He is just as unproven as a head coach as Jim Zorn was when he was hired. Those lines in Pittsburgh and Arizona weren't scouted, drafted and built by Grimm either. |
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
I know one thing, those 3 (2nd round picks) we used for receivers, should have been used on 3 quality Offensive linemen. That way our line would be better. You build a good team from the inside out, not the way we are doing it. We could have survived a few more years with Moss and ARE. Time for the other receiver to see the field. This offense does not even through past 15 yards. No wonder they cannot score more than 20 points.

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Mutiny on FedEx Field!!!
I say make all of the culprits walk the plank! Feed them all to the sharks! Start with management; Dan Snyder, Vinnie Cerratto, Jim Zorn, Greg Blache, Sherman Smith, Stan Hixon and then the players; Jason Campbell, Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Phillip Daniels, Cornelius Griffin, Stephon Heyer, Malcolm Kelly, LaRon Landry, Antwaan Randle El, Carlos Rogers, Chris Samuels, Mike Sellers, Fred Smoot, Devin Thomas, Mike Williams and Fred Davis. Fire them all! |
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
All those draft choices we gave up for players who aren't even with us now. Snyder wasn't crazy for hiring Zorn, but Zorn was crazy for taking the job. doesn't Snyder see that Vinny has caused multiple problems for this team? I agree that Vinny must go! What would the 'Skins do if they fired Zorn? He's already under the bus for players who don't even deserve to be in the NFL.

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Firing JZ is NOT the answer. To do that and hire another coach by the same people that hired Zorn in the first place just invites more of the same.
And BTW, it ain't Zorn's fault. He was put in a position by VC, and Dan that is more than he is equipped..."today" to deal with. It should be fairly apparent by now neither Dan, or Vinnie were qualified to do so. What we DO need to do is hire a "Hot shoe" GM and dump it ALL on him. That is what they do. He would have plenty of time to evaluate what we have, and what we need...coaches, players, scouts, etc. There is also time to see what coaches are available, as there appears to be numerous candidates. AND DANfinger (see Bond, James Bond...circa 1960ish) can have VC carry his clubs, and maybe he can get on of those cool steal lined hats, like that Asian guy and...well you get the idea........HTTR |
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
There are some things that are Zorn's fault though. Case in point...calling timeout on 4th down and justifying it by saying "well we weren't sure where they were going to spot it. Would it be 4th and 2, 4th and 5, 4th and 7." That's weak. Even if the spot is questionable, it's never a matter of 5 yards. That's ridiculous

I'm not saying Zorn hasn't done some...ridiculous things...time mgmt...play calling....etc. BUT, he should NEVER have been in this position in the first place and a competant GM would never have put him there. He may make a great HC some day, but it was obviously premature for this year? |

Jason is (to date) an average qb that COULD rise to greatness with the right support around him like great protection, running game, recievers consistently opening up, etc.
---See Mark Rypien He does not have those things to cover his....average-ness |
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Some interesting comments by the reporters and some Redskins staffers following Zorn's press conference today
"He looks like he wants to cry" 'Dead man walking" "Don't have this kind of pressure as a QB coach in Seattle" "This is more depressing to watch than the game" "Snyder needs to put him out of misery" |

Well I'm a member of the media, but not on the press side (not anymore at least). But anyway, no I wasn't there. But when I watch the press conference on television I watch it through a "raw feed" so basically I can hear and see what's going on at the press conference before and after what you see on tv and online. |
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Don't be surprised if Zorn is fired after the Kansas City Game, I feel that Snyder will not want to be embarrassed any further by getting demolished at home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
|
Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Well, I'm going to the KC game so it's a lock that win that one. Maybe he gets fired anyway.

The bye makes sense only because it gives the team some extra time to put a new guy in place. It won't happen after the KC game. |

The other part of this, is it makes me never has 2 plays called. If he can't give JC a play if it's less than 2, and a play if it's more than 2 than that's a huge fail anyways. I think that's why Campbell did better when he is running the 2 minuted drill, he was calling on his own and prepping the huddle based on what might happen. |

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
The way I feel about Zorn is this: After the loss yesterday I saw one thing I thought I'd never see a coach do; hang his head. Right out on the sidelines with the last few seconds ticking away. NOT good. Simply put, it was a man defeated. It looked like all his will and hope got sucked out of him while each second ticked away. Then he went into the press conference and B.Mitch put it best... And I know most people want Mitch's head on a stake around here, but he said that every time Zorn goes to the press conference he goes to answer the questions of the press. So what does he do? He answers the questions. So. It's not that Zorn is doing the wrong thing, as B.Mitch put it, he's doing his job. But it feels like he's just going through the motions. I feel like Zorn is doing what he does, because he has to do it. I'll say it, I don't think he has the love of HCing or the passion to do it. I feel like he's coaching because that's what they paid him to do so... He's gonna do it. There's no personality to him. And you don't have to be boisterous and throwing chairs angry, but you gotta have some sort of... Oomph to you. Zorn doesn't have that. I can't remember the last time he did have that. That "Hip hip hooray" moment last year? Gibbs had it almost all the time. I don't ever think I ever saw Gibbs hang his head, at least not in front of the cameras. Hanging your head means you've given up on not only yourself, but your players. Players hang their head after the game but your coach is supposed to be your rallying cry, the one who won't let you hang your head even if your loss was incredibly embarrassing. When your coach is out there hanging their head with you? Something is extremely wrong.
Overall Zorn is in way over his head and someone needs to start hitting the brakes (or at least consider it) on this runaway train before we crash. Maybe Zorn has the potential to be a good HC someday, but IMO I think he's lacking some of the core of HC fundamentals (other ones that I didn't talk about but I'm sure you can throw a few out there). |

Re: Do you expect Zorn to be fired
Jim Zorn is only 1 game back from .500. There are still 11 games left this season. There is still time to turn around. There is no need for a knee jerk reaction and fire him at anytime during the season. Just let him finish it out and have a chance to right the ship (since everybody want to compare a football team to a boat these days). It can't get any worse and if nothing else an experience like this will build some character. In Jim Zorn’s defense he has the hardest job in the NFL and he hasn't thrown the towel in like some other NFL head coach who couldn't even make it through one season in Atlanta. The man is fighting his guts out but he is stuck in quicksand. Let him finish the job that he is getting paid to do.
