none of you have a clue what was said in those interviews snyder has done. none of you know if williams made an ass of himself... none of know that snyder could have talked to gibbs about what was said in those interviews to make snyder want fassel. none of you know anything... snyder definitely asked grilliams many questions and just maybe, just maybe williams tanked. just maybe snyder talked to ralph wilson about how williams as a head coach made decisions in all aspects of the game and the outcome was bad. so, lets quit assuming you know what is best for this football team... shall we?
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
I am by no means a Fassell supporter but lets at least give the guy a chance. If Snyder is willing to then I am going to. If they bring the OC from Seattle maybe that will spell good things for JC I mean they have a pretty decent passing game out there. I feel uneasy about the coaching decision as the rest of you but Im going to at least give him a chance.

If I may be so bold as to state. I think Danny is an idiot even if this is not true and he hires G Williams. Because of how he's handled the situation combined with the promotion of CERRATO. Most have agreed that we needed a GM....a qualified one....this makes that impossible. This, combined with a complete reshuffling of the coaching staff (or even a percieved one) points to one thing..... DANNY is an idoit......but hopefully.....one day.....we will win in spite of him. |

If someone is THAT doom and gloom to start selling REDSKIN stuff...and switching teams..? Are they a TRUE REDSKIN fan to begin with? I think anyone with a double digit IQ knows how to answer that one. This isn't the END of the world! Not my choice of what direction I'd like to see the club going, but this isn't the first time. |

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
My issue with the potential Fassel, Ryan, Zorn team is not with these men or their coaching acumen. They are talented guys and will work hard to try and produce a winner.
The most disappointing aspect has to do with the utter disregard for loyalty within the organization. MAYBE this would be justified if the new coaching staff were remarkable better than those already here, but I just don't see that being the case. Kind of reminds me about the thread a few months back were SmootSmack went off on a tangent about men cheating on their wives. While this is not nearly as morally egregious, it has a similar connotation. GW was brought in with some at least implied "benefit of the doubt" promises, has done nothing but win the love and respect of the players/ coaches/ fans, then gets shafted in favor of an outsider without a hall of fame type resume. Sorry, but it just smells. |

Not every coodinator w/ good press works out - and like QB's, there is a lot of luck involved. Tomlin and Payton are the exception, not the rule. Just 'cause someone is an up and comer doesn't mean they're good.
Well thats kind of what I'm saying. Its not like the Skins have been getting boffo results with the retreads they have been hiring as head coach so why not try something new? If it works great, the Skins have a successful young coach who might stick around for more than 4 years and build something. If he doesnt work out, oh well, its more losing like the past 15 years. In a nut shell, the results cant get much worse than the past 15 years so try a new direction and see what happens. Its not like a new young coach would be messing a championship dynasty. |
What class are you talking about because Snyder went with another coach? What does that have to do with class?
As I referenced earlier, I'm talking about the difference between how, say, Kraft or Rooney run their organizations and how Snyder runs the Skins. I have no problem with Snyder looking for the best candidate. I really don't. But consider that Gggrilliamsss stayed here for years with a pretty well-known expectation that he was to be the guy who took over for Joe. To tear that up after what this team has been through, especially when it smacks of a rift between Vinny and Ggrilliamsss, it just comes off as classless. It's just one thing, but I think it's a big one. The way we've handled some personnel and now coaching employment decisions as an organization under Snyder has been pretty embarrassing, IMO. You don't get a free pass on this stuff just because you open your wallet a lot. |
If Snyder didn't care, Mark Shapiro would add head coach to his Six Flags responsibilities.
Look, the 12thMans and Schneeds of this site who present valid arguments about their concerns-I have the utmost respect for them. Others who say stupid shit like "Danny needs to sell the team" "I'm getting rid of all my Redskins stuff" "I'll never watch another game" and so on-those people deserve to be mocked, ridiculed, and scorned. To the fullest extent. They don't need my respect of course, but if they're expecting it then they're certainly not going to get it with posts like that. I think I've been pretty clear in saying Fassel is not my top choice. Neither is Williams really. But what I've been saying (and I think others as well) is that a) no decision has been officially made so quit crying and b) why can't we see how everything plays out first (staff, roster) and make a more informed decision maybe sometime in the spring? On another note. When I hear the Sean Taylor argument, while I understand it sometimes I can't help but relate it to when people ask "Why Giuliani?" and the answer is just "9/11"
I was with you on everything up until point "A". While you're right of course that no decision has been made, I think it's pretty clear based on what we KNOW has happened (who has been interviewed and how many times) that this thing is leaning one way. There's a reason lawyers and DA's know when a jury comes back quickly or takes forever, it's good or bad for them. And with due respect, to point "B" -- you're tilting at windmills right there. This is a discussion board and people want to discuss their hopes and fears as they relate to this franchise. And why Spring? What's that going to tell us? As someone earlier said, we likely won't really know until the midpoint of next season. Be honest -- in the Spring you're still going to be telling people to stop jumping to conclusions and wait until the season starts, aren't you? |

Many of us think he sucks, sure, but there are just as many other options who maybe don't suck as much, or even at all, who I also don't want. Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
Maybe there is hope?? Post has been fueling this fire!!
If Al needs to go so be it, just not the Defensive philosophy please: The person familiar with the process said Zorn's interview was not necessarily tied to a specific candidate -- that he is considered someone who could work under several of the potential head coaches on Snyder's list. |

Everything I've heard says Bugel stays if he wants to stay. If it were up to me, I would have promoted Williams to head coach and nothing more (I don't think he deserves it by any means, but it's the least "dangerous" move), I would have hired Jim Schwartz to replace Williams, moved Jerry Gray up to defensive coordinator, let Blache retire as he has supposedly hinted at. Give Danny Smith his shot as a D-Backs coach. And offensively, I'm torn on what I would have done with Saunders but I definitely would have trimmed the staff somehow. Maybe let Breaux and Burns walk and consolidate their responsibilities under Byner. |

not really because at the outcome of a game we know who the winner is, so we can debate on what should have been done to change the outcome. we don't yet know the outcome of this particular subject. |

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
Truth is, nothing is going to make this feel better until Fassel clearly redeems Snyder by winning a whole bunch of games. Unless this guy goes 10-6/11-5 and vies for a second round playoff berth or even a conference championship, the Skins will never live this decision down.
This isn't going away. Not during the draft, not during training camp, not during pre-season, and not for at least the first 8 games of the regular season. The very first time JC throws an interception, it will be Snyder's and Fassel's fault. Now is that reasonable? Probably not. But to many fans, neither is bringing someone into our "house" who knows nothing about the way we set our plates out on the dinner table, what time we serve dinner, and who's turn it is to wash the dishes. There are rules and ettiquette that generally apply to every situation, then there are "how we do things around here." I think the Redskins we're on to something with the latter. Now it looks like they're going to re-set the dinner table, so to speak. |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
lets face the truth, Gibbs 4 year stay here is just a dream. then after waking up. were now back to the redskins that is now owned by a fantasy football guy. lets have another ride with this

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
Honestly I really don't care and Snyder probably doesn't either. There are plenty of people out there that have already made up their minds to hate the guy no matter what, and when situations like this come up they can't wait to pounce, despite the fact they don't completely know or understand the entire situation.
I agree. I also agree that many instinctively recoil when they hear Vinny's name uttered, even though those same people cannot tell you what Vinny does or what decisions he has made. I have defended both Vinny and Snyder whenever I feel that they are being unfairly dogged (which happens often). Both are scapegoats that people can point to with knee-jerk speed. That being said, I think it is fair to criticize Dan if he does not hire Williams. Sure, Williams has his flaws (e.g., arrogance) and had a poor record as head coach of the Bills. However, most, if not all, of us fans wanted to see Williams replace Gibbs. What has changed since the days immediately following Gibbs' retirement that would make us change our minds? Not much. Most of us still want Williams and many of us will be upset if he's not our new head coach. We could still win if Dan Snyder hires Fassel and Williams goes someplace else. We might lose if Snyder hires Williams as head coach. But, for now, I for one still want Williams and the rest of the coaching staff to stick around. That's not an indictment of Snyder, that's an endorsement of the franchise Joe Gibbs left us with. |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
Good points. But let me ask this then, why should it matter what the fans really want? If they listened to the fans we'd have a different coach every other week this past season.

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
When an owner and director of player personnel have presided over a team which has collected a 50-62 record, who exactly should be the scapegoat?

They should not listen to us fans. I agree that some of us are incredibly fickle. However, I do not believe I fall in with that crowd. I was a strong Gibbs supporter and I like what he left in place. That the players and coaches (including Gibbs) reportedly support Williams, despite his arrogance and demanding nature, in his bid to become the next head coach only confirms my belief that he is the right man for the job. In short, I like what I see and so do the people closest to our team (i.e., the players and coaches). |
When an owner and director of player personnel have presided over a team which has collected a 50-62 record, who exactly should be the scapegoat?
No one should be the scapegoat. Various head coaches have struggled in D.C., with and without Vinny and Danny's interference. Marty had full control of the team, yet he struggled. Gibbs essentially had full control and did not meet expectations. Various players have struggled in D.C., only to improve while playing elsewhere. We've had rashes of injuries at inopportune times. In other words, there are a whole host of reasons why this team's record has been mediocre since Danny became majority owner. |
