Re: campbell is culpepper clone?
Why make any comparisons at all. Let Jason Campbell be Jason Campbell. The dude may define his own style and bring us 4 rings. Who knows? Why compare him to Culpepper? Just because both are black? Doug Williams? Again....
Campbell played under 4 different O-Coordinators at Auburn. Finally found one in Borges who could display his talents. It was a west coast style of offense adapted to the Auburn players. Gibbs does not play a west coast style of O. Can Campbell be a pocket passer? Auburn history does not give me a warm fuzzy about that, but the coaches in Redskin Park have been raving about him. I'm wondering what he's doing that has won over the coaches so quickly. I'm guessing he might be more than a system QB, but having the right coaching is important to his development. Let's just wait and find out who Jason Campbell is. |

No Gibbs doesn't run a west coast offense but supposedly the terminology of the two offenses is similar which could help shorten his learning curve. |
Re: campbell is culpepper clone?
Gibbs does run a variation of the West Coast offense. He runs a lot of short passes intented to chew up the clock. The main difference is he is run first.

Re: campbell is culpepper clone?
Here is the Redskin WR corps:
83 Thrash, James 6-0 200 15 Black, Nathan 6-0 190 86 Brown, Antonio 5-9 170 18 Dyson, Kevin 6-2 212 13 Elliott, Jamin 5-9 190 16 Farris, Jimmy 6-0 200 14 Parson, Rich 5-10 183 80 Patten, David 5-10 190 89 Moss, Santana 5-10 185 85 McCants, Darnerien6-3 214 84 Jacobs, Taylor 6-0 198 12 Harris, Steven 5-11 180 These are not guys built for a short possession style of offense. Unless the TEs HBs and RBs are going to carry the receiving load, I'd look for more of a stretch style game. I've read that they have already moved to more of a zone blocking run game for portis with the receivers out, so I'm not sure how much of a possession/west coast style we'll see this year. |
Re: campbell is culpepper clone?
The possession game should go through with Cooley and perhaps McCants if he's able to win a roster spot and increased playing time. Those are big ifs for McCants though.

Don't forget Portis out of the backfield
