Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
No matter how bad things get this year, you have to give Gruden one more year. Firing him after two seasons would symbolize everything that has been wrong with the Redskins since Snyder bought the team.
Of course it matters how bad things get. If Jay improves then the team improves then he earns the right to stay.
If Jay doesn't improve and team doesn't improve he shouldn't get another year for the sake of symbolism or perception. FO decisions should be based on production not perception. |
Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
First of all its not a fact that Jay wanted to start Kirk last year. Let's get that straight before we have this discussion. A fact like that requires proof.
So you can't prove that Dan meddles based on a fiction that you invent.
I'm almost positive that Smoot said last year that Jay wanted to start Kirk coming out of training camp and eluded to the hand being forced. (via Dan through Bruce)
And IF your previous fiction was true and Jay did want to start Kirk then it would be no surprise that Griffin struggled. I'm mean do you think a player can have success with HC-playcaller that doesn't believe in them/want them as a starter? And further IF Jay did want to start Kirk over Griffin then it would make me question the pretenses under which he was hired if he is ready to move on from one of his biggest tasks so quickly.
The fact is, Griffin has had very little pro-style offense experience is why he struggled, not Gruden's faith in RG. Shanahan said it would take years for him to become acclimated to it since he missed out of it during college. It's why Kirk looks a lot more comfortable in the offense than Griffin. |

Another 4 win season and he's outta here. |
I'm almost positive that Smoot said last year that Jay wanted to start Kirk coming out of training camp and eluded to the hand being forced. (via Dan through Bruce)
That my qualify as a "fact" to you but it doesn't even come close to factual to me and I'm guessing it doesn't for most people.
And again even IF your "fact" were true it should be disconcerting that your new HC clearly was never on board with developing the franchise QB. You think Jay would have been hired if his plan consisted of moving on from Griffin prior to the season even starting? I find it odd that you dont view your notion that Jay wanted to play Kirk and not Griffin an indictment upon Jay.
The fact is, Griffin has had very little pro-style offense experience is why he struggled, not Gruden's faith in RG.
Again your statement above is not a fact. The fact is football assessment seldom lends itself to simple soundbite analysis. There is rarely 1 "reason" for the success or failure of a play, player, coaching staff or season. Was Griffin's inexperience in a rhythm drop back passing offense part of his struggles? Sure. But the playcalling, game plan and coaching also played a role in his struggles. After all Griffin was even less experienced as rookie but was better as a rhythm drop back passer in that system then now. Heck, no QB was less 'prp-style' then Cam and look what he did as a rookie. I bring those up only to remind us that Griffin's performance or any player for that matter is tied to the quality of the coaching. Jay maybe unable or unwilling to coach anything other then his system. |

The problem with that is we are back to the same old formula of...new coach. New coach wants new players. etc...etc..... Consistency. You can't have it rotating coaches every 2 years. |

Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015
I'm not sure you'd consider RG3 a franchise QB after the last 2 years of ineptitude. at this point it's either he starts to get his stuff figured out or he's going to be riding the bench somewhere waiting for another chance.

Consistency. You can't have it rotating coaches every 2 years.
SM picks the players now. I think he has a clear vision of the type of team he wants and the type of players he wants. As long as Scot is here, I don't think we need to worry about taking a step backwards due to a new coach wanting different types of players than the ones Scot already acquired in order to fit a significantly different system. That's because Scot would surely select a new coach whose philosophy meshes with his own and most of the current players would fit into any new system. Consistency is meaningless with the wrong coach in charge. I wouldn't mind if Scot were to change HC's as necessary until he gets the right one to lead this team for the next ten or more years. I think the key to our future success is keeping Scot and letting him determine the right HC coach for this team. Ideally, that coach will turn out to be Jay Gruden and we won't need to make a coaching change. |

How long do you give someone before you decide they can't cut it though. That is the question |

Clearly it's do or die for RG3 this year. Jay will be in trouble if we don't see some real progress from the team and signs that he learned from his mistakes last year. |
How?
Are you asking specifically how Jay's/staff playcalling, gameplan and coaching impact Griffin's performance or general 'how'?
