If TO didn't play the game wouldn't have been as close. He had a couple of big plays for them and more than anything gave them an emotional boost. I know people have a problem with his antics, but I don't see how anyone can't respect the guy for what he did. He sucked it up and risked his career by playing. If that was one of our guys doing the same thing we would be eating it up.

Matty's right. And don't give this banged up Pats secondary crap. Only one other receiver over 100 in the playoffs and that was Hines Ward. That secondary shut down Peyton Manning and the Colts. They are more than capable and they've proven that through out the playoffs. TO had a very good game.

TO is a great player and it was a beast move to play so well 6 weeks after a break. But the reason the media gives Farve credit for being a "warrior" and forgives all his stupid throws in pressure situations is because of the consecutive games streak, which pretty much gives anyone reason to call him a "warrior" anytime. I think Farve is overrated on his QB skills now, but he's still one tough bastard; definitly a legendary NFL "warrior."

Agree 100% with TO.

Monks work ethic and discipline, Irvins mouth and drama

You guys know that Jack Youngblood (rams DE when they went to the SB) had ths same injury as TO ...and missed like a half (not six weeks) but, with out a doubt TO showed up for the SB and is a great WR. I just could care less about the dramam w/ his leg. DG and his ribs ...missing no time...was much more impressive.

The BIG difference between Favre and T.O. is that Favre plays the game with JOY, you can feel his love for the game........While all T.O. does is things that point to
HIMSELF. Favre does not disrespect his opponent.......he may kid or joke around with them but he still shows respect!!!! In the offseason T.O. needs to read the book, IT"S NOT ABOUT ME".......maybe if he put that into practice he would get the respect he seeks. It's not about race, it's about self-promotion and some people won't buy it.......

Its not that he is an Eagle or that if he has a poor work ethic or if T.O is a great WR becasue he is and it was amazing for him to come back and risk his leg. The reason I am ragging on him is because he is looking for praise for doing what any player on any team anywhere would have done .... risk his career to play in the biggest game of thier life .

Everyone says oh the Eagles will be back again next year but that is what everyone says when they win or loose. Key injury here a step up of the teams in the divison and suddenly even the playoffs look tough and it has to be said the NFC was particulary weak this year.

And haven't the last four super bowl losers had losing records the following seasons?

A quick point about the impact of T.O. as well.

First up it wasn't the just banged up secondary responsible for shutting down the Colts, the weather played a huge part in that along with the great game plan. Owens was taken out of the game by backup rookie Dexter Ried who was left in man coverage too many times as the Pats hurried and harried McNabb with 4 and often 5 blitzing LBs. The Eagles should have been able to make them pay for that but just didn't .

jdlea 02-09-2005 12:11 PM

Everybody was going to be able to "make them pay" in the playoffs and no one did. It doesn't matter how good a scheme is, you still have to have the players to it out. Troy Brown played a great game against the Colts and their secondary shut Plaxico Burress down. Or thier defense did. No matter, they still only allowed 2 100 yard receivers and one of them was coming off on an injury.

Finally, I don't think that everyone else would have done it. John Abraham didn't. Michael Irvin even said that if he were in TO's shoes he wouldn't play if the doctor didn't clear him. He said something like, "Super Bowl or not, you've seen what they can do without you and you have to know that you're going to get back...I wouldn't play."
