Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Jonathan Baldwin is the one from Pittsburgh. I reviewed sum of his tape after i initially read a mock draft for us gettin him next year. He has alot of high points but he doesnt seem to be very physical. If there is a corner right there with him going up for a ball he kinda just gives up. Hopefully he gets better with it this year. A sleeper WR pick in the draft is gonna be Greg Little, WR out of North Carolina. This guy might be the 2nd coming of Terrell Owens. Dunno if thats good or not but he is def a gamer. Has a ridiculous competitive edge and attacks the ball in the air. We will see what happens.
Greg Little is also a monster as well, So there are 5 or 6 sure 1st rounders coming in the draft at WR (Not to mention speedy Ryan Broyles from OU as a sleeper slot Eddie Royal type) |
If he's healthy enough to play wk 1 sign him... Bryant is a decent #1, whose better than any of our WR's we have now, plus Allen wanted to bring him in anyway.
Opening Day WR's 1. Bryant X 2. Thomas Z 3. Moss Y 4. Armstrong 5. Kelly 6. Banks
You can dump Kelly at this point. We paid him similarly to what the Bengals did with Bryant. Except ours was over a 2 1/2 year period. We got nothing out of a 2nd round pick. |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
I was reading about Bryant - failed drug test, a couple of years of injuries... Per Wikipedia (the most reliable source of info) - he had a lawsuit to get them to stop drug testing him. Great. Then he had a spat with TO for the jersey number (#81) in training camp..
Anyway, I just feel this looks too ridiculous for Cincy - there's an obvious huge RED flag. Maybe his injury is worse than we know, maybe another failed drug test, some other club incident.. I don't know. When things are too good to be true - there is something fishy going on. Haynesworth would have to kill someone for us to part ways with him after $21 million this year. I just wonder what's wrong with Bryant.
You can forget that then. This guy is bad news!!!!!! |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Opening day starter? This isn't like basketball or baseball where you can simply plug and play. Hypothetically if we signed him it would take at least 4 weeks to get up to speed on the offense.
I doubt it would take very long at all. Plus we are 3 weeks out right now. He played in Tampa while Kyle Shanahan was there ...most likely when KS was the WR's coach so he should know him and how good he can be. |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
I just don't see Shanny bringing a guy off the street who hasn't spent one day in practice nor learing the system when all he preaches is, "if you don't practice you don't play." Would he really spend all summer going back and forth with Haynesworth, chief diva, and bring in a headcase like Bryant who has practiced only once for $8 mil? Wouldn't that just be rosey?
No chance Bryant or any other warmed over body (see Vince Jackson) who hasn't spent this summer in a Redskins uniform practing. The only thing I see forcing Shanny's hand is an injury to somone like Santana Moss. Otherwise I think he's rolling with the crew he's got right now.
You'd be correct except I believe Bryant worked with K.Shanahan while in Tampa. I would imagine if KS wants him then dad will make sure he gets him. It wouldn't be a situation where they are bringing in someone they don't know or doesn't sorta know the system. |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
If healthy bring him in see if he can produce mrs then Kelly ( in other words can he get on the field) and if so... cut Kelly. We may not know what Kelly can due cause he's been injured, but we do know what he can't do and that's stay healthy long enough to show what he can do or produce on the field.
Cut Cut Cut! |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Unless he plays against the Cards and does very well, Kelly being cut is a lock. I rather get Coles than Bryant. I didn't realize Bryant was a headcase.

Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Ok looking at A. Bryants #s he has had one 1000yard season and a total of 30 TDs and only 5500 yards in 8 seasons. Not that impressive at all and certainly not elite. I do not know how much he would really add to our current recieving core other than expirience and a knack for getting hurt. He is in no way better than S. Moss as others have stated.
I am somewhat shocked to think he even got a 4year 28 million dollar contract. VJ has had 2 back to back 1000 yard season on less than 79 rec, but his average ypc has always been in the nieghborhood of 15-17 which is in that elite category. He still has alot to build on, but he may be a player that gets his payday and regresses. Buyer be wary on his production as well. |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Maybe someone can explain how Bryant is a head case? As I remember it he did well in Tampa then wanted a better contract, similar to what's happening with VJ. Didn't Tampa decide to trade him to Dallas cause he would't play for his cheap contract? Other then that what problems has he caused? Someone said he failed a drug test... how long ago was that?
Bring him in, put some rules in place, cut Kelly, and let's see if Bryant can get on the field cause we already know Kelly can't. |
Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Antonio Bryant once took a swing at Bill Parcells. I don't know if that makes him a bad ass or a moron, or a little of both. Either way I still take my chances with Kelly before Bryant

Re: Antonio Bryant cut
Just heard on NFL Network that Bryant only practiced once with the Bengals because of his knee. $8M for one practice!!?? Wow. Good for him.
Damn, Kelly should bargain for a new contract. |

how is 4 years for 3.36 mil/1.6 guaranteed anything NEAR what the Bengals did with Bryant? |

Bryant has a reputation for his attitude. I'm hoping that Kelly shows Shanny something on Thursday to make releasing him a tough call.

Re: Antonio Bryant cut
How about his lack of putting up good numbers and making a big impact on a team?

He infamously blew up at Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells at a preseason practice in 2004, throwing a sweaty jersey at him during an argument. He took anger management classes and was traded to Cleveland a few months later. 49ers wide receiver Antonio Bryant arrested for drunken driving - NFL - ESPN Obviously, it turned out that Bryant's knee wasn't healthy. He never got on the field for a preseason game, and I guess the Bengals had seen enough to know that he wasn't going to be able to help them in the regular season, either. Letting him go after paying him $8 million for 172 days of light jogging is an indication that they were pretty damn certain of it, actually. Don't hold anything against Bryant, though. I'm sure he was as optimistic and hopeful about his knee as anyone else, and it's not like he held a gun to Mike Brown's(notes) head and made him give him a contract. If a team's going to sign a guy, it's their responsibility to make sure all his limbs are functional first. Bryant's a free agent now, able to negotiate with any team that's interested. It's hard to imagine anyone beating down his door, given what everyone knows now about the health of his knee. The silver lining, though, is that the Bengals have made him financially secure enough that, if he wants to, he can take a year off and concentrate on getting that knee healthy. Let's hope he comes back in 2011, stronger than ever.
