Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
does shanny normally carry two or three qbs because that could play a huge part in whether colt brennan stays or goes
He was a 2 QB carrier near the end of his Denver career with Plummer-Bradlee Van Pelt, then Plummer-Cutler, then Cutler-Ramsey. It's likely that until he has an established, unquestioned quarterback here, he'll probably have three on the roster.
I have no problem with Sam Bradford or how he got his numbers. I think he's a damn fine QB and would be excited to have him join our team. I just want to see Colt given a chance because I'm really curious about what he can do. He is somewhat charismatic and that could carry over in a good way. He seems fearless and confident and if he has learned not to be careless he could be very productive. Plus.... we've already got him. We don't have to spend our first pick to get him and we can can use that pick to finally address the o-line and get someone the caliber of Russell Okung. I would really like to see the guys we choose at skill positions developed and given a chance instead of constantly trying to upgrade with another draft pick at the expensive of drafting our biggest weakness. We don't seem to mind using #1's for safetys and such but we don't seem to want to "waste" a #1 on a LT when we can get someone who's an upgrade later on. It doesn't take much to upgrade the line we have. Maybe if we went after the best o-linemen we could get we could actually hit our mark of having a good solid o-line.
Excellent post. Please take what I say w/ a huge grain of salt because I just don't watch college ball consistently, but I see Brennan as a far better passer than Bradford. The video on Bradford shows a kid who struggles to consistently fire a tight-spiraled strike. He passes are wobbly lobs a good share of the time! Does 15 lbs of extra muscle and a healthier shoulder fix it? Brennan, even as a pretty scrawny college QB, throws tight-spiraled strikes w/ at least some heat on them. Undoubtedly he's put on some size and strength over the last couple years. And he's a hell of the competitor. IMHO it would be stupid to let him go elsewhere IF he's healthy and still hungry to succeed. |
Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
Colt will get his shot I'm sure, what he does with it is another question.

Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
if i'm not mistaken, arent we having some sort of camp BEFORE the draft? If Brennan and Campbell do well there, I think there's a very good chance Shanahan will shift his focus away from Bradford. It certainly would be ideal if Campbell or Brennan could win Shanahan's confidence before the draft. Picking up Okung in the first, Charles Brown in the 2nd, and a C/G/RB in the 4th sure would be nice.
Do we know yet whether we have any comp picks in the draft? |

Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
wow, things are moving very fast.
i wonder how much of our roster will have changed by then. i wouldnt be at all shocked to see alot of our veteran players traded or cut by then. |
Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
I hope Brennan can earn both Shanahan's confidence. How they gon workout in Ashburn? Arent they buried under like 40 inces of snow. i know they are a professional franchise so they have wonderful cleaners but jeez thats alot haha

Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010
Dude he played in a douche conference. Who would you rather have as a starting QB, a guy who faced big time competition just about every week or some guy racking up stats against teams that are barely Div IA? How come he would have gone undrafted if we didn't pick him up? You know why? After all the hype about him and Hawaii going undefeated into the BCS Sugar Bowl, he got his ass kicked by Georgia. I give the guy props for his records, but his situation was like if the Gators played NAIA opponents all year
Yeah UH played teams with weak defenses unless you count the game where they blasted Boise. But which team in the Big 12 fielded a defense the yr bradford put up monster numbers? They were avg 40 or so a game until they ran into a REAL D IN FLORIDA. I remember him throwing crucial a pick in the RZ and at the end of the BCS. So imo both played in high powered offenses in college vs teams with sub par defenses. And yes UGA thumped UH mainly because they rushed 3 and STILL sacked that kid Colt all day.. Name 1 QB who would have done better in that situation. 8 covering your 4-5 depending on if the back blocked with 3 putting you on your backside 8 times And to say UF plays a cupcake sched is kindof hard to prove when they still beat the other number 1's they play in the bowls. OSU,OU and Cincy. number 1 teams from other conf's= all wins, 2 were over at the half. if they lost these games then you would have a point about their schedule. not the case so hate on. |

Totally agree. If he can stay healthy and study hard he might do well in Kyle Shanahan's pass happy offense. Especially since he was in a pass happy offense while in Hawaii. or he could fold like a bad deck of cards. lol. |

yeah, do you not think he's worth taking with our 2nd round pick? i havent read how he did at the combine. Regarding our QB situation, so much focus is being placed on who our starting QB will be, we also need to think about our backup situation. I don't see Todd sticking around so if Brennan doesn't impress, we could be looking at 3 new QBs on the roster. |

the only way i want us to hang on to JC is if shanahan will commit to him for atleast 2 years (unless his play just totally drops off, of course). IMO its simply not worth it to keep him for another year while we groom a rookie and then let him walk away for nothing when his contract expires after the 2010 season. Right now, Bradford is the only QB that could be available to us in the draft or free agency that even has the potential to be a significant upgrade over Campbell here. |

I agree all around. Maybe if we come home from the draft without Bradford, the FO will get going on an extension for JC. |
