Re: What to expect of the offense in '09?
You are never going to see the pass protection you're dreaming of in today's NFL. You need a QB and receivers that can make plays in spite of pressure, because pressure is now a fact of life against nearly all the good teams.
That is true. But JC was often getting pressure in his face DURING HIS DROP! |
Re: What to expect of the offense in '09?
I expect a good year. I don't understand those out there who want everything both ways. Here we are in a situation where we FINALLY have some continuity going on, yet many of you think the offense will suck because we haven't made enough personnel moves (with the skill positions.) JC will have a better feel for the scheme. The young WR's--at least one of them--should emerge and contribute. Those two things alone will allow Zorn to open things up more. Adding another couple pieces to the o-line will be necessary, and they'll get that done.
Zorn is a smart guy and will learn from last year.
How many more pieces can we add to our OL, which was our biggest liability last year? If we draft with our 13th overall we maybe get a starter that can go the whole year and be productive. What other pieces are there other than the hope of adding that one? Bottom line, we didn't improve our OL this offseason unless we pick one with the 13th overall. Personal improvements of our skill players won't matter if our OL can't give us time to run our scheme. |
Here's what I expect... another garbage year from the offense. JC is out next year and so is Zorn. Then say hello to a big name signing at HC. Someone like Shanahan or Cowher. Depending on the development of last year's draft picks I could see Vinny getting the boot and Danny handing over total control to whichever big name coach he brings in.
If Thomas and/or Kelly don't have big years, I'm afraid you are correct. and Danny handing over total control to whichever big name coach he brings in (and then takes it back about week three when things don't go perfectly and/ or he just gets bored). |

1) the possibility/probability our WR corp makes a leap in a single season (predicting no change in the group btw)
Devin Thomas is already working on routes 1-1 with Campbell and it has been reported that he has been around Redskins park alot during this offseason. I figured he would improve from simply having a year in Zorn's system to build on, but his off-season dedication is a good sign. ---> 35+ catches 4 TDs bumps ARE to slot by mid-season Malcolm Kelly is an enigma. I heard he had another scope/procedure on his knee. I also read that the procedure went well and that he'll be ready for training camp if not OTAs. It seems like the Redskins thinks that Malcolm Kelly *when healthy* has better hands and is a better route runner then DT, so hopefully he'll hit the ground running. ----->35+ 5 TDs bumps Thrash to 5th receiver by training camp
2) whether our o-line can become a respectable unit between now and opening day
With the addition of Dockery we are a better unit already. Stephon Heyer needs to take firm control of the RT spot. Randy Thomas needs to stay healthy or Chad Rinehart needs to step up. But, Imo a simple way to insure an improved line is to draft a OL with a high pick.
3) whether you all think Zorn can create a game-plan that maximizes our talent on offense and turns "touches" into touchdowns
I think Zorn was good last year. Overall i'm look for more downfield attempts and a more aggressive approach in the Redzone. I predict a 60/40 split of pass to run this year, with a focus on passing to start the game and running to seal the deal. I expect more dow |
Re: What to expect of the offense in '09?
I'll pencil in Thomas for about 20 catches and another handful of dumb penalties. He'll also cost JC 2-3 picks due to sloppy route running.
Kelly will nurse his knee all year and every week we'll ask why he's not on IR already. Davis will get talked up all year about how great he looks in practice only to be a complete no-show on gameday. Zorn will explain it away by saying the packages they were using just didn't include Davis. Rhinehardt will be cut at some point. |

So on that note, are you for bringing in Cutler now? |

Sure why not. We're due for a QB change any way. Then in 2 years when we're sick of Cutler we can trade him and start Colt, or trade for whoever is the hot name at that time. |

Get ahold of yourself Matty. Snap out of it and shake it off. Don't give in to it. |
Re: What to expect of the offense in '09?
I love the dark side. Perhaps we could trade some draft picks away for a really good punter?

Not my day I guess". Even when the person they're operating on DIES, they still come out and say, "We did everything we could." |
