I know you were just responding to usmc and you wouldn't hold your crotch during the national anthem. But, keep in mind that whatever your politics, that flag has draped the coffins of thousand of U.S. soldiers, sailors and airmen who have fought and died for this country. A vast majority of them were volunteers. It drapes the coffin of most veterans when they pass away and will drape mine. The U.S. Flag symbolizes the ideas and people of this country.

I feel differently, but I don't feel everyone has to agree with me. Fair enough.

100% agree. It's a shame this thread had to take such a retarded and unrelated turn.

i really appreciate every time i stand, and face the flag when they play our national anthem. and yes, my hand is placed over my heart. but to try and compare Sen. Obama not placing his hand over his heart, to some scum bag, that basically said piss on America, is simply ludacris. lets save those comparisons for fox news

I understand and I respect your position. It is my belief however that soldiers didn't die for the flag and the flag should not represent ideas or people. People and ideas speak for themselves. Truth is nations evolve and people evolve for better or worse but flags do not (unless there's a fundamental change in a nation ala revolution). If in the future, for example, we become tyrannical like Nazi Germany our flag would no longer represent the ideas and ideals of people in the past or present.

All I'm saying is don't put too much stock in flags and lapel pins. They are not that important.

Saden, I really like what you have contributed to The Warpath over the years when we have had discusions about our beloved Redskins. But pal, you have really disappointed me with some of the things that you have posted about in this thread. I assume that you were joking when you said that you hold your crotch when you hear the National Anthem. I don't really know what you were trying to accomplish by saying such idiotic things, but that statement did nothing constructive to help describe your defense for yourself or for J. Howard.

As a person who proudly wore a uniform in the U.S. Marine Corps, I look at the flag and this country alot deferently than you. Even though that you think you were being funny or cute when you said that you grabbed your crotch during the National Anthem, I most certainly did not. I think it is truly sad that you feel that way and that you feel comfortable even saying things like that. It really comes across as you being a smart-ass, and I know that you are way smarter than that. I'm sure that you and others would call me out for saying anything like racially insensitive, and I would expect that. I also expected you to choose a better way to make your point than that.

I'm sure that you and I could go to FedEx, and stand next to each other, and cheer on our Skins and never know about where we stand on the politcal spectrum. But to me, it's God and country first, and always.

Nice post. Though, in a strange sense, you could feel pride that the tremendous efforts and sacrifices you've made for this country have allowed saden to feel comfortable enough to make such comments.

I'll admit it, the joke was in bad taste. I'm sorry you were offended and rest assure I don't grab my crotch during the national anthem. I think people take the flag issue way way way too seriously. I find it offensive that one's patriotism hinges on flag and lapel pin issues. To be frank it's as if I live Stalin's USSR and Hitler's Germany, and Mussolini's Italy. I am frustrated with with all this flag talk.

It's all good bro, and I apologize for some of the grammar mistakes in my last post. I kinda threw that post together in about 5 minutes, and I didn't bother to proof read. I have since done an edit.

This country is by far nothing like the USSR, Germany, and Italy. We are a country of diverse people with broad and ranging views of how we would like to live as a people. And that is what makes us as a nation so freaking great.

But the gist of what I've been trying to get across is this. People like J. Howard who have no respect for the National Anthem, and from what I have seen from Obama, I have very great concerns from their behavior that has been on display.

While I may look at the flag differently than you, that's okay. Just don't be disrespectful. Also, just ask any widow, widower, or any family member that has lost a loved one, what that folded-up flag in the shape of a triangle means to them, and maybe, just maybe you will have a change of heart.

But at the end of the day, you and I are Americans, and I have got your back. Saden, you and I are down like four flat tires because we are Redskins fans too. Peace?
