Re: Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize
I love how people are worried about their taxes. Take a look at the debt bill from the millions we're spending in Iraq per week. Yeah, you're not getting taxed for it, we're borrowing it, and China is buying up our debt left and right. Expect China to have major pull over the decisions in the US. I read a while back that if China were to call in all their debt right now we would be completely screwed. Granted, no country would ever do that, but still.
What's worse, paying more taxes or having another country own our interests? |

What the peace prize is for:
When Alfred Nobel died on December 10, 1896, it was discovered that he had left a will, dated November 27, 1895, according to which most of his vast wealth was to be used for five prizes, including one for peace. The prize for peace was to be awarded to the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of peace congresses." The prize was to be awarded "by a committee of five persons to be elected by the Norwegian Storting."
|

So why is it Gore won again? It doesn't seem to fall under that definition. |
Re: Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize
Because Arafat won it it's worthless? What about the worthy people who have won it? You're completely dissing their accomplishments as worthy of a worthless prize.
As for Arafat may I remind you he won the prize WITH Yitzhak Rabin FOR trying to bring an end the middle east conflict. A desired and admirable goal.
Arafats' deeds were alot louder than his words. Some people talk about doing, while others actually do. Arafat was one who would say to the world "I want peace with the Jews" and while addresses his own people say, "death to the Jews". What a peice of human feces he was. A good terriorist is a dead one. |
Re: Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize
i dislike all the candidates for presidency, republican and democratic, right now. Gore would get my vote if he were to run. He has a responsibility to run. I get upset with the fact that he preaches change but when he has the power to step into a position where he can make a difference, he passes.
Then how can you support that? |

Oh really, well that maybe true, but why do so many people want to come here for a better life? No other country in the world can claim that. And I too have lived in other countries around this world, and this is the best place to be bare none. |

In any case, I don't understand why Arafat gets all blamed for the failure of peace. There were two parties there and no one wanted to compromise.
A good terriorist is a dead one.
Nice, they feel the same about Americans. As the president has said "bring them on."

I'm not entirely sure if the original intent of the prize covered environmentalists but I don't see why it shouldn't. Gore won it along with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for peace between mankind and the planet/environment.
"their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"
|
I'm sure everyone's heard by now. I think this is pretty impressive. My question is, if he did decide to run do you think that he would be able to win over enough republicans to win an election? I am a registered republican (put down the eggs, dmek) but I think I would have to seriously consider voting for him pending some research.
*let's keep this civil. no need for namecalling or hyperbole. There's plenty of that on TV.
How could any "republican" vote for gore, the guy is a kook. |

Most democrats aren't that stupid either. Go ahead Gore, run for President, hurt your own party with such a dumb move. I'm all for it. |

Well, I would agree with you. But why get a peace prize now, if it wasn't the intent of the prize? That's like an Kevin Garnett winning the NFL MVP. Sure he plays great for the NBA, but the NFL MVP is supposed to be given to an NFL player. I personally can't stand the guy, but I do respect his work in regards to the environment, regardless of how self serving it is. |
