I've never seen a head coach who was hired receive so much criticism from the media or from it's fans. I really hope he succeeds after all of it.
According to ESPN the skins never cancelled any other interviews after gruden was hired lmao sucks for Greg Roman
According to the Redskins and 49ers official statements, that didn't happen.

Schefter, while we don't really get along personally, is a solid and diligent reporter. But I think he built, probably unwittingly, so large a reputation for being Mike Shanahan's sounding board, that it's going to be hard to take his Redskins related reports without a big grain of salt for at least the short term

Sounds like interviews weren't even scheduled yet with those guys, so there was nothing to cancel.

I voted yes, I approve of the hire. While, I am in a "wait in see" mode as to whether or not he will be successful here, I do believe it was a good hire.

I am really liking what I am reading about his philosophy, that he adjusts his offenses to the strengths of his players, he allows dissenting opinions to be discussed openly, that he asks his QB's what they are comfortable with. I know that some people fear that this is buying in to Griffins alleged egomania, but actually this type of leadership style is extremely effective. The more you elicit the opinions of others, the more they buy-in to your vision, the more they are able to work within your paradigm, and the more they are able to make quick decisions that are in line with what you are doing, and all of this is is because when you invite others to be part of the decision making process, you are inviting them to think about it and understand it. I am excited and hopeful that this is the atmosphere that will allow RG3 to flourish, but of course, time will tell.
I agree. The Broncos, Colts, Patriots, Seahwaks.....all of the playoff teams for that matter...all of them have coaches who let the world know that there is constant open competition for their quarterback positions.
I get what you are trying to say and I appreciate it. But i don't think it's fair to compare our situation to those teams above. Those teams above have a clear-cut bonafide starting QB. Those guys you know for sure are going to be a "sure thing" every year. Peyton, Luck, Brady, Wilson....

Can you say in your heart that beyond the shadow of a doubt we have a "sure thing" starting QB in RG3? Meaning that there is no doubt whatsoever that RG3 is going to come out this year and play in the same way as those guys above??

I think we should at least take the "wait and see" approach before throwing all the cards in the hat and saying "for sure" we have a starting QB for the next 15+ years.....

Based on how Cousins looked in his 3 starts, and what we've seen from Griffin when healthy, I don't see any need for any competition. RG3 is the guy moving forward, end of story.

I'm glad Gruden squashed any potential QB drama nonsense right from the start.

Exactly. People are acting like Cousins has done something to warrant there being a competition. He is a solid backup.

RG3 has shown he can play. He had the best rookie season out of those "for sure" guys in Wilson and Luck. I want to see what RG3 can do with a coach that believes in him and isn't worried about his own ego.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

I'm taking a wait and see approach with this hire.....one thing I do like is that Gruden has never been a head coach on the NFL level.....I'm encouraged by the improvements of his offenses in Cincinnati for each of the past three years.....under Shanahan the Redskins showed what it was capable of.....I think once the offense gets the few more pieces it needs it will be unstoppable..... but I'm greatly concerned about the defense.....

Let them talk all they want. IMO Gruden will inject more spread concepts into the offense, leading to domination by RGIII.

Anything Dalton can do, RGIII can do better.

Cousins is a solid QB and maybe he'll be a starter for another team next yr

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Saw an article on SI about Jay Gruden. Sort of disgusted me. It said that one of the things that was told to Gruden by Dan Snyder was that he was to announce RG3 was the starting QB, and that there would be no competition.

While RG3 should start next year, this to me says that things are already going down the same path that they've always been : Dan Snyder tells the coach who he is going to play, instead of the coach deciding on how he will put the best players on the field.

Competition is always good for everyone. No way this team wins or is successful as long as this crap is going on - the owner telling the coach who he must play. It is disgusting
When a team wins 3 games there should be competition everywhere. RG3 should be the starter, but he should also have to prove that he's the best player. If I were Gruden I would make it uncomfortable for everyone.

If Snyder did in fact say this, and that's a big if, then you're correct...same old same old.

Snyder didn't say anything.
