I am 99.9% sure he will never play again. I just hope the guy recovers well enough to lead a normal life for a 35 year old. |

It looks like he will be able to lead a normal life, someone posted pictures of Smith throwing few balls few days ago. Although just like you, I'm pretty sure his football career is over.. |
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
McLaurin signed his deal with the Redskins, I believe he was the last rookie, so the entire 2019 rookie class is signed.

Cam Sims standing out again, but can he actually contribute? |

Leftover observations from minicamp: 1) The Redskins absolutely need Trent Williams back, which should be obvious. It's very hard to measure the play of the OL or DL without pads, but it's hard to imagine Ereck Flowers being a viable option at this point. I'm not sold on him as a LG, but we'll see more in camp; poor technique at one spot doesn't turn into good technique at another. But we'll learn more in August. 2) Rookie QB Dwayne Haskins makes some throws that reveal his special arm talent; and then other times he'll fail to get his feet turned to make a throw under duress, leading to poor throws. The key for him will be quickening his reads to give his feet more time to turn. Sometimes those throws, even with his feet turned elsewhere, work. Sometimes. But the talent is obvious. 3) Trey Quinn didn't practice Thursday, but overall seems to have had a good spring. He'll be a factor; he's tough. But they will need to see who can back him up. They have young options, but all unproven. 4) I've enjoyed watching Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie. He's a smart, savvy vet who will make others better. If a receiver does not sell a certain route, he will not bite. That's good for the young wideouts, such as Terry McLaurin. Coaches will focus on his ability to change speeds to con the corner. Rodgers-Cromartie isn't easily fooled. Entering camp, he appears to be someone who can have a range of value – as a mentor and someone who shares information with offensive guys (including Haskins). He can play slot corner and outside and will rotate to safety in various coverages (no, not full-time). Interesting tidbit about drc, good to hear |

Not me. I hope he retires from pro football before he becomes permanently disabled. He has a greater responsibility to his family. |
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
Checkdown Alex is finished in this league.
|
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
After drafting Haskins, why in the hell would I want Alex back? Maybe as a mentor for a year, but looking to get some cap relief after this season from his contract.

So tell me exactly why you feel compelled to denigrate someone who has literally given his right leg to your favorite franchise? While it’s in keeping with your many other ill considered posts, it’s still offensive. At least to me. |

He is just an angry dude. Fuck the Redskins or the cap in terms of Alex, Alex needs to get that leg right, and I hope he does. Alex did nothing but be a great representative for this franchise. As much as we love football, real life is way more important. |
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
was watching the 99 Skins - Boys game last night on NFLN, man we had a good offense that yr.
Brad Johnson Stephen Davis Larry Centers Mike Sellers Michael Westbrooke Albert Connell James Thrash Stephen Alexander Number 2 ranked offense in the league behind STL. OL was decent not great but Jansen was a stud. That was a fun yr being a Skins fan, I was 12 and thought we were SB Bound until TB... Also we got swept by Dallas that yr, which the 1st game was a fluke comeback by them. |

Yep, was glad Brad got his ring in Tampa. He was a good QB and class act |

@CraigHoffman
Gruden says Shaun Dion Hamilton and Fabian Moreau are the two most improved players here. Glad to hear that SDH has improved from last year. Given the loss of R. Foster, this is good news. |

Yeah, lost a close one to TB who lost a close one to STL. We were right in the mix. Loved Connell. |

He had to be one of the best pass catching backs in the league other than Faulk at that time. I remember so many 3rd and short where he'd pick up the first down on a dump off pass. That offense was doing really good things...and then Snyder stepped in and well...y'all know the rest. |
Moreau is going to be good for a while.
If Moreau really is significantly better you have to be happy with the depth. Dunbar is reportedly fully healthy, so to go three deep with reliable outside corners, plus Moreau's ability to slide inside and the depth of DRC and the promise of Jimmy Moreland as another slot guy, the CB position would be looking up. Moreau and Dunbar are extremely important players for us. If they show out well the defense will undoubtedly be tough. If they don't, we'll have holes offenses can exploit. |

WR isn't great but we have depth there, just not anyone that really stick out. Deeper than the Giants for sure and about equal to Dallas. Once Haskins gets going, he's going to be right behind Wentz as the best in the division. |
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
Kool aid is flowing. Lol. I hope to hell things turn around this year, but there is a really good chance that by week 5 Ill be thinking “wow we are set at d-line and thats about it”.
But yeah right now if everyone performs and stays healthy we could be a pretty good team. (Common train of thought in June....) |

Once Haskins gets going, he's going to be right behind Wentz as the best in the division.
That's really the problem in a nutshell - we have no #1 (or even a #2?) that scares defenses. There are some lottery tickets that could hit - Cam Sims? McLaurin? If they hit then we're in business. But until we see it from them - I'm definitely imagining an offense that doesn't threaten the secondary. Coordinators will be willing to stack the box against Guice and Peterson, and willing to blitz and leave corners on an island to challenge the passing game to win under pressure. It points to a team with zero margin for error. The defense will have to keep us in games, and whether we win or lose will depend largely on whether we have success running the ball against stacked fronts, and whether we can take care of the ball. McCoy and Keenum are known to turn it over. Haskins is a rookie so we have no idea. We're looking at a ton of close games, 23-21, 20-17, 24-23, stuff like that. Which points to 9-7 if we stay healthy, and 6-10 if we don't. To talk about 10+ wins or more, we have to see something from this WR group we haven't seen before. The lotto ticket needs to hit. |

Re: Redskins O.T.A.
So the passing game is not great right now...and this is where I'd like to see some originality and planning from Gruden and the offensive staff this offseason by using what they do have. I'd like to see play action quick hits to Quinn, more screen throws to Thompson like they had in 2017, more throws to the TE off play action. They don't have a great #1 or #2....so improvise! And stop trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole...work around the talent you have. Obviously injuries have hurt this in the last 2 years, but last years offense from the beginning was about as vanilla as it gets.

 We have absolutely no hope of seeing that. |
Re: Redskins O.T.A.
Since Gruden is no longer the play caller, perhaps we'll see some changes in originality. The play calling last year was vanilla AND hugely predictable. If the average Redskins fan noticed that, then the Defensive Coordinators absolutely were ready for it.
