Re: It's official: Shanahan fired

How much impact do you guys think RG3 had on this decision? The guy left Redskins Park without speaking to the media and hasn't endorsed Shanahan like other players (Reed Doughty, Chris Neild, etc.) have done on twitter and in public.

Can we deem RG3 a "Coach Killer"? I really like the guy but I'm starting to see how he really is. Stubborn and doesn't like to be told what to do.
Agreed. Would have liked to see the continuity in this offense with RG3 completing a full offseason at improving at the QB position and seeing what we could have done with almost $40 million in cap space *sigh*
Go back and highlight that white space underneath.

I think the relationship between the Shanahan's and RG3 had an impact. I don't think he's a coach killer, but he needs a tough that will coach him hard.

I mean, did anyone expect him to stay? Is the new coach going to come in and keep him? Kyle S. wasn't RG3's biggest fan either.

Surprise! RG3 is actually the owner and fired Shanahan himself. You know, with all that pull RG3 has and that the entire Redskins locker room and organization is a-okay with. Because if you don't publicly endorse your old shitty HC, you must obviously want his head on a stake.

Cute. I look at it this way. Shannahan maybe done in DC, but he'll never have to pay for a beer in St Louis in appreciation for delivering the Rams the #2 overall pick in the draft.

And if the next HC does not do better than say 6-10 in 2014, they'll get another top 10 pick and Shannahan gets the key to the city.

One thing Ill take away from this season is the fact Skins knocked out Romo for the season effectively knocking them out the playoffs for a second year in a row

I would definitely make a point to at least have a CLUE what you are speaking about if you are going to needle. I will say it was fun watching Orton toss that Romo-esque pick last night though. Different QB, same result.

It's become clear to me, and I think to a lot of people, that Shanahan was largely the beneficiary of coaching John Elway in his prime. If it wasn't for that he would have never been as successful as he was. I don't see him finding another job now.

The Redskins job is a desirable HC job insofar as getting a fat paycheck. I would pick any job over the Skins, well, maybe not the Raiders job.

I was listening to 980 an hour ago and Kevin, and Tom where discussing Kirk Cousins interview about the coaching change. In the interview Kirk mentioned Roberts name as part of the coach hiring committee. I sure hope that isn't the case..

raiders, bills, lions, dolphins, bucs, cardinals, redskins = teams that have sucked for decades now.

I think lions fans are most heart broken. you have the best offensive weapon in c johnson, a highly drafted qb in stafford and an absolute beast in suh .... yet they still cant put it together. not to mention that city really needs something good to happen to them.... ouch. but i guess they are in the best position to break out of the loser pack i listed above.

The location is a bonus, too. DC/Northern Virginia is a nice place to live if you have money.

Other than that...yeah. You'd have to be a brave soul to take the Redskins job right now with all the drama.

I tend to disagree with that notion. Shanahan, from a pure coaching perspective (X's and O's, coaching guys to play above their normal threshold, etc) is a fantastic coach.

He calls a good game, plays the odds, and I've always respected his accomplishments on the field in a game. I think where he implodes is on any personnel decisions. That's why they gave him the boot in Denver, and ultimately why he has failed here in D.C.

Either way, he's gone. Good riddance. I'm not excited this go round for out coaching change. Quite frankly, I'm extremely pessimistic. I think there are some good choices out there (Jay Gruden HC, Raheem Morris DC, Hire a true GM), but I simply think we won't do it.

idk matty. rg3 is mr redskin.

i honestly am not sure if i would have a problem with this. i want to build around rg3. at least for the next 3 years or so and if things dont work at that point then id assume rg3 and the coach handpicked to suit rg3 would be gone.

from a lockeroom standpoint it might not be good and certainly would be claimed as the main reason why things failed if it didnt work out in the end.

winning cures all.

just win baby!

seriously, i dont care how or who.

if it requires a coach willing to scheme exclusively towards the one player on offense who touches the ball every time .. i am all for it. if it works, no one will say shit.

What's a better alternative? You have the 2012 ROY at QB, the league leader in receptions, a 1600 yard rusher, one of the best Left Tackles in the league, a promising young Tight End, a roster that just won the division last year, a division that is the worst in the league, and the best CAP situation in the NFC.

These men aren't babies. They aren't going to be scared off by Snyder. That's an average Joe fan illusion.
