Did Shanny say they shed $100mil worth of salaries in his first year and none of the players they cut were picked up by other teams? I believe he also said there were no players left on Offense from his first year, but that can't be right. Fred Davis, Santana Moss and Chris Cooley come to mind.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

I don't think the players have mailed it in, but I do believe the players have lost confidence in the coaching staff. What I think happens is that in the beginning, everyone buys in to what a new regime is preaching, and plays their assignments to the best of their ability. But after repeated failure, they lose confidence in the system they are running, and play for themselves more than anything.

They are still giving 100%, but looking to make plays for themselves than for the team. It's a complete breakdown because football is such a team game. Once confidence is lost in the coaches or the schemes, it's over.

Our best targets on offense, Davis and Tana, were inherited. We can hope all we want for Garcon, but nothing about his stats indicates he'll be a more productive receiver than Moss.

That said, I'm not dumping on our WR corp or downfield targets. I was pessimistic about this group before the season because we don't have a dominant (big) WR or a true burner. But we have plenty of talent to compete. WR talent, in fact offensive talent in general (Polumbus being the exception) is solid IMO.

I'm just repeating what someone else said. We need to fire our disfunctional fanbase.

Impulsive, heat-of-the-moment, keep this team going from one HC to another, Dan Snyder has plenty of supporters here. This is a surprise to me.

The Giants would have never won their last superbowl if similar minded NY fans had their way halfway through last season.

I'm not saying we're making the playoffs. Those two "5 in a row or we don't go" runs were special. But we still look just as stupid now as Giants fans did last year.

No we dont. We dont look stupid at all. To compare them to us is wAy off base. Those fans were booing a team that had recently won a superbowl and was in a heated battle to win the division and go back to the playoffs. Were booing a team that has been (for the most part) atrocious for 20 years.

Gotta see improvement anywhere. I was holding out hope because of the offense but now the first 7 games are looking like a facade.
What drives me crazy is that last year I remember thinking we were a QB away from being a damn good team. Lost alot of close games and beat the Gints twice with Rexy Becky. How the hell do we have a really good QB now and were worse? Wtf??

The answer is the pass defense. And we have a few players in thre seondary who weren't there last year. Atogwe, despite battling through injuries, played solidly last season. The safeties this year are not not up to the task.

Agreed. We have a secondary that is getting torched left and right. I do not think getting rid of M. Shanahan will solve things but it is time to look at if Haslett is right for this team. Our defense has had some definite setbacks with injuries but we were still giving up some big plays before the injury bug struck.

Haslett isn't the right DC but even IF Shanahan sacks him the defense will struggle from lack of talent. And if the new DC might be just as inept. MS doesn't have a great track record for picking top notch coordinators.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

Mailing it in is a strong statement. I like to believe alot of players play with pride and are very competitive no matter the situation. What I do know from this board is that Haslett was a big reason why Fletch almost didn't come back and Haslett also had run ins with Zo and Wilson. These are only ones we know about. I don't think too many guys are going to risk their job complaining about Shanahan with his 5 year contract but my point is this. Fletch is very much respected on this team. Moreso than Haslett I'm sure. I can't imagine him ever mailing it in but how much ethusiasm and conviction can the guy play with when he doesn't even believe in what his coach is doing? Lot's of players young or not look to him as an example and it's surely no secret how he feels about Haslett. It's bound to affect your play or at least your energy level to some degree. I would imagine Mike has lost some of the team also. He hasn't really made a difference in the standings in 2 and 1/2 years. I love football...always have...but losing takes it's toll on anyone. Mike was excited about this team before the season started. Now we have some injuries and we're not very good. I thought he was excited about the depth he'd built.

Wtf is it and why can't we win with it Shanahan?

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

"Mailing it in" is bunk. I don't think that any player in the NFL quits or "Mails it in". The reason is simple.......contracts. There are no guaranteed contracts in the NFL. Every player knows that they have to play to get paid. They know that if they are not playing for their current team this season, what they do on the field is assessed not only by their current team, but, but 31 other teams in the league during the off season.

This is NOT the NBA or MLB where player contracts are guaranteed. Where "tanking it" or "mailing it in" for better draft position are common. And that slogan from last year attached to the Colts (Suck for Luck) is a load of crap. Each players future for the next season is linked directly to their effort and output on the field.

Say or think what you want. But mailing it in during the season is a bunch of crap.

If you want to say a team mails it in yes - bunk. Always going to be ones that give it their all. Alvin Walton nailed it with Haynesworth - if he didnt mail it in i dont post alot. Unfortunately if a couple guys mail it in than it might as well be the whole team. Whats that they say about a team is only as strong as its collective pieces - or a whole is only - whatever - u get my point.

The same idiotic knee jerk reaction by both fanbases.

Even though circumstances do prove the Giants fans are stupider. (big surprise there, lol). What's imbecilic is under an ownership constantly turning over our coaching staff (except one occasion when a legend came back), fans here want to start up the coaching carousel again.

If the Giants owner had listened to the same screaming from NJ fans in '07 and '11, they wouldn't have won those superbowls. That's all I'm saying.

McNabb I can understand. I don't see how he set himself back with Grossman/Beck. What would have the better choice been? Draft Gabbert or Ponder and not get guys like Kerrigan? Sign Hasselbeck and still have to get a QB this year?
