I don't think we lose to the Rams, but my oh my we have to play Buffalo, and a month ago I had them a sure W, now with Jackson and Johnson being studs, we might have our hands full. I think we need to look at the AZ game again and reevaluate how good this team is. I don't consider AZ to be all that great.
Buffalo's D is pretty bad. Besides, a lot can and probably will change between now and then. |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
I think the Bills are good, but I think we're a better team. The Bills seem more smoke and mirrors at the moment.

The Bills have a high powered offense, but I don't think they've faced a tough defense yet. They have also been able to make comebacks in the second half though, so it will be interesting to see how they continue to perform. |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
Yeah their offense is legit, the D... not so much.

Pretty petty of an adult. It was like when people were complaining about the Patriots destroying us during the 08 season. We used to love and admire winners in this country, now you have to apologize if you win by too much. |

I agree, when we lost that game I think it was like 52-7 or something I just laughed and moved on, they were a great team and if we can't stop em that's not their fault |

I was pissed about that game, mainly because even when the Pats were blowing us out, they were going for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter. That was the year the Pats decided to go all HAM on the NFL and blow out everybody to prove how dominant they were. I was definitely upset about it at first but eventually I felt like I agreed more with the sentiment that it's a game and if you don't want it to happen, you need to stop them. If they don't want to pull starters in the 4th, or settle for a field goal, that's their prerogative. |

I think w/that much of a margin it's still not only classless, but flat out bad karma & risky. If Brady got hurt throwing on 4th down it would've looked pretty stupid on Belicheck's part. Getting beat like that makes some players frustrated to the point of fighting, late hits, etc. Guess hoody knew we couldn't get to him! |

Exactly why I don't have much of a problem with it now. The Hoody knows the risk he's taking by leaving in his starters late in a blowout win. It actually burned him back in the day when Welker got injured in a meaningless game after the Pats already wrapped up their division. Not sure what year that was though. |

Re: Skins v Rams pregame
As a coach these are the games that worry me more than the "tough games" against "tougher opponents". We must NOT take St Louis for granted. They have had our number the last couple of years and are hungry for a win. If we cannot find a way to put them away early their confidence will build and all of our blood pressures will go into overdrive.

Re: Skins v Rams pregame
I don't think we are going to take them lightly. We have something to prove with this game. Before the Dallas game, many in the media had us as a "fake" 2-0 that would get exposed in Dallas, and we were. Grossman has to show he is a good QB. Kyle needs to get a good gameplan together. If this guy wants a HC position he better start showing us some innovative stuff on Sundays. So far, he qualifies as a journeyman OC, like Martz. The D is tight, but not quite as dominant as they were a few years ago, but then again you can't put our cornerbacks into many one on one situations. We no longer have Darryl or Champ back there. We are a good football team. WE probably won't win the division, but if things pull together well, maybe have an outside chance at a wildcard.

Yes in deed. Although the talent is better this year than the last few, the biggest difference to me is that we look like a more professional product mentally. We can still play like boneheads but in a different way. The circus is out of the program. It's that mentality that makes me think we'll put them on tight this Sunday and bounce back the right way after the Dallas loss as opposed to last year or the Zorn era. We're all at least on the same page. Might be the wrong page, but the same one. |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
How many of you had a tough time sleeping Monday night after the game? I could not get that 3rd and 21 out of my head. I wonder if D-Hall had a good nights sleep. We had our chances to pull away from Dallas but we did not make enough plays in the end on the road.
As for the Rams game this is a game that we can come out and jump all over them. I want to see us score on every possession in the 1st half and not FG's. I would like to see our offense get a lead so our defense can T-Off on Bradford and the Rams. If the Redskins want the fans to respect them this is a game where we should win by 14 points or more. When was the last time the Redskins went on the road and put a beat down on a opponent? Its been to long so lets start this Sunday. HTTR |

I really really hope Shanny and co. spent alot of time with redzone offense because last week shoulda been an eye opener. Like to see a little more play action bootleg, get rex moving out the pocket, maybe WR screen to Santana, and some Cooley plays at HB and TE. We need something. One thing that is killing us, is the Running Back stretch plays...that zone block sh*t isnt working when the line is crowded. Maybe 5 set Spread Draw with Helu, some power stuff with Torrain, or pitches to Hightower to get around the corner.... Any thoughts to improve the Redzone Offense? |

Any thoughts to improve the Redzone Offense?
Id like to see us take some shots in the endzone once we get near the 20. I feel like at that range the D is still spread out enough, theres still enough space to run a seam route or something. I feel like once we get inside the 15 or 10 it becomes more cramped and unless we do something to get some misdirection or create space like a roll out (which i havent seen yet for some reason) or do some kind of PA (like the only td in dallas) we arent really effective. itd be great if our run was effective inside the 10 i havent really seen that yet. idk, i think maybe the skins have gone more conservative in the RZ since rex' troubles down there in the 1st half against the cardinals. ever since then, it seems to me the philosophy has changed. |

Id be thrilled to see Torain's pads lowered going off tackle down there. |

I think we need to use his height and jumping ability in the endzone more often. |

I wouldn't be surprised. I think Helu has a chance to have a big game too. |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
last year, they whooped us in the 2nd half. They will bring pressure & that's what worries me. I think after monday's runless drives, Kyle will be looking to establish the run w/some creative looks, maybe a reverse here or there.
Any thoughts to improve the Redzone Offense?
All Hightower all the time. He was a goal line specialist with Arizona, who had an inferior line and scheme to us. We seem to be abandoning the run inside the 20. We're killing the league in time of possession and plays run...a sign that our run game has been good. Lets carry that success all the way into the end zone. I would even let Helu carry more on the drives. He's a home run hitter. Hightower is a red zone stud. Lets use their strengths. Week 1 Red Zone scoring: (scoring plays inside 20) Hightower 1 yd run Armstrong 6 yd pass Gaffney 4 yd pass Week 2 RZ scoring: Gano 26 yd FG Davis 1 yd pass Gano 23 yd FG Moss 18yd pass Week 3 RZ scoring: Gano 27 yd FG (snapped from 20) Hightower 1 yd pass This makes the passing game look good inside the 20, but it also looks like we're not running much in the Red Zone. These passing TDs are short-range. Lets look at Rex's stats: 1st down - 47 pass attempts, 68.1% comp rate, 2 TD, 1 INT 2nd - 26, 69%, 1 TD, 0 INT 3rd - 36, 38.9%, 1 TD, 2 INT 4th - 2, 100% Rex Grossman - Washington Redskins - Situational Statistics - NFL - Yahoo! Sports Looks like we need to run more on 1st down. While Rex is on fire on first down, he's stalling drives on 3rd down. 2 of his 3 INTs are on 3rd down also, which is telling me he's becoming more mistake prone under pressure. Defenses are likely blitzing on 3rd down, which we know brings out the worst in Rex. We have a great running/blocking scheme and a RB who is proven to be a TD specialist in the RZ in Hightower...we need to take advantage of this. |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
One thing down in the redzone in throwing, it looks like Rex making one read and if its not there he is throwing the ball away. Now let me state Im for Rex throwing the ball away and not throwing a pick which he has already done down there. But sounds like we need to get more receivers involved in the play.
|
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
I think the boyz did a good job of taking away Davis & felt they could cover the other guys 1 on 1. For the most part they did, at least long enough for their blitz to get to REx. Even when Rex had time, coverage was pretty good. i think we missed Armstrong more than we realize, he's really the only burner we have.

Re: Skins v Rams pregame
damn! Gus Johnson was scheduled to call our game, but they switched it to chris meyers and sam ryan. I was hoping to hear some loud screams and over excitement.
This is a very interesting game becasue like last year we came off that painful HOU lost and then just dropped a egg in STL. Let's see if this year's team fears better in much the same scenario as last year.
This game is a great measuring stick to where we are this year vs. last year.
That is a perfect call man ... Look the Dallas loss was tough on ALL of us ... This aint the ol Skins', I keep telling myself that, the coaches tell us that, the players tell us that, they look & feel different, but with all that said this IS the game. this is the mother of all litmus tests IMO. I honestly thought Rams would be a pretty damn good team this year but they are falling apart, Stephen Jackson is literally falling apart. This is a game where we can set the tone with the running game, Hightower once again knows this team very well as he has faced them twice a year in AZ .. hell we should know the team .. 3-1 @ Bye week is all the team should be focused on. I BELIEVE this aint no 8-8 team, I think between the lockout, Shanny & Allen making GREAT moves in off-season, everyone on track, good young O=Line, top 5 defense (i don't give a shit about the dallas play) .. this defense knocks people on there ass and getting to Bradford should be the main focus .. I hope Haseltt calls the same damn blitz and this time D-Hall makes a play ... I know that's a ramble session but look this is it ... it's game time baby .. this is the game that changes people from "ehh the Skins' might be ok" to "the Skins have turned the corner and the NFC East is wide open" THE Washington Redskins - 42 St.Louis Rams - 13 Hightower & Helu over 100 Rex .. SOLID 220 yds 2 tds 0 turnovers Davis & Cooley catch TD BANKS TO THE HOUSE ON OPENING KICKOFF |

Re: Skins v Rams pregame
Skins will win by 10 IMO.. 27-17
Rex 3 td passes 1 int |
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
I am not saying shit in terms of a prediction. Rams are banged up, so were the Boys. Ram offensive line is shaky, the Boys O line sucks eggs. Can't win unless you score points. Until we pound the rock whenever we are inside the 10-20 yardline and add some rollouts(get fatboy to lose some damn weight for that) you will not improve our redzone blues. Add some misdirection plays also to get our TD production up. It is a joke that we have all of this young talent going to waste because of lame redzone playcalling.
|
Re: Skins v Rams pregame
The game will be decided by 3 points. We cannot put teams away, play with a lead, score in the redzone or depend on our field goal team, the blockers or the kicker. Our defense will keep us in it as usual, but I somehow see this Rams team really bringing the skins back down to earth. I hope I am wrong, but I see the rams winning this one, 23 - 21.
