Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
I really want to see Darren Sharper here for a season or 2. The guy can still play and he is a turnonver machine. If we are in win now mode, well then TO and Darren Sharper make sense. Enter "over the hill gang" 2.0. :)

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
^ I totally agree with you. Maybe these signings are a strategy to get TO to lower his price tag.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
I don't see how signing Bobby Wade and Joey Galloway is going to lower the TO price tag.
Maybe he will lower the price tag just to join Donovan again and play in the best division in football. As well as, take care of some unfinished business.. |

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
As long as DS makes money, he doesnt care. Even though all signs point to us having a 5 or 6 win season, The Dan is going to make loads of money, until people stop going to the games....

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
i have no prob with the DS making money off the skins, with our fan following and the structure that is the NFL, he would be the worst business man in the workd if he didnt.
Im happy he is putting the money back into the skins and their facilities. the HD stadium screen is a belated start. I heard our training facilities/weight rooms are some of the worst in the league (SS is that right?), so i would love to see upgrades to our facilities like that as well. |

Not quite sure what you are saying here but I have to agree with Matty. I would love to know what sign you are looking at to say only 5 wins??? I also see a MUCH improved team all the way around. I'm thinking we win 10 games min. Just based on our new Coaching/QB/Scheme. And the fact that we have begun to address the O-line. As far as DS making money... Skins fans will never stop going to games. |

Agree 44. I travel from Charleston, SC 600 miles just to go to FedEx for the night then turn around and head straight home. I have done that twice in 08 and 07. I love the Redskins, and I don't see that changin anytime soon.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
These signings of Joey Galloway and Bobby Wade could mean 1 of 2 things. #1, Shanahan saw what MK, SM, DT, n MM had to offer at the previous 3 day work out and wasn't impressed or #2 (which is the one i think is more likely) is shanahan is signing these two to have them take guys like DT, MK n MM under their wings during OTAs n training camp, give them some lil veteran tricks of the trade, and they'll both be cut b4 the season actually starts. Sorta like the giants did with Joe Horn that one OTA a few years back, except shanahan is gon get the most out of it lol, if not, he woulda just SIGNED Keenan McCardell instead of making him our WR coach lol its the same thing except these guys will be on the field. Unless Galloway or Wade, show sumthin that our current receivers dont possess, they are likely to be cut before the season starts

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
I think its competition oriented. I have no worries, I think if Mitchel and the young crew makes it to preseason they'll be able to show how they produce on the field.

After being out of town for a week with Mrs. backrow, (35th Anniversary) I just could not understand how we piled up all the quality (?) in the late rounds. Hence (don't you love a sentence starting with hence?) the following breakdown. I'm providing the link and the parts pertaining to the B&G!

I agree with the second half but dissagree with the first half. I love the optimism. My issue was Cerrato. Well... Zorn's scheme also but Cerrato was my real issue. It's not like the best of the best GM's were floating around and DS could pick up whoever he wanted. He had to pick up the best available and I think Allen is pretty good. Atleast I think he's better then Cerrato. But as a side note the GM has to hire a HC he thinks he can get along with and work with. In this case Allen and Shanahan had already talked and wanted to work together. In any event Allen/Shanahan being on the same page is 10x better then Cerrato and whoever is selected to be HC. Now having a coaching staff hand picked by Shanahan who he thinks he can work with and will be on the same page only makes us even better. Getting rid of the dead wood that was collecting a paycheck and replacing with players (hopefully) who will work their butts off is icing on the cake. The only thing DS has to do is sit back pay the bills and enjoy the game. That and smile on Sun. I guess the point I'm trying to make is what on earth does this team or DS have to do in order to finally get some of you to climb aboard the bandwagon again? I'm somewhat guilty. I've kept the avatar I've had since the end of the season. My little protest avatar, the blue NFL avatar, was traded for the scripted R helmet. I probably should change it to reflect one of the players, but I have been lazy and have held on to it with the understanding that if they do things the right way I'll change it. What else do they have to do? win more games then last yr? get to the playoffs? get to the SB? I think now even I'm being a bit critical. The front office has changed, the HC has changed, the coaching staff has changed, half the team has changed? what else is needed? All we can do now is hope the changes made will accomplish something. |

People are speculating that when Sharper was on the NFL network and mentioned that the Skins were 1 safety vet away from play off contention he was refering to himself. Which means Sharper is somewhat interested in working under Shanahan. Although he's in a good situation with the Saints it's hard to repeat. So he either is lobbying thinking the Skins would throw the money at him, which hasn't happened with any of the vets, or he knows Shanahan is a good coach and would have a pretty good chance of getting to the SB over other teams. Maybe not this yr but soon enough for him. |
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
Bulger going to the Cardinals for a career resurgence would be the ultimate irony. Of course Matt Leinart would start the season but Bulger would be the one to finish it.
I'd also like to see the Bills trade for Vick. It's well documented that I don't like Vick as a QB but for teams that need to grind to win football games Vick is an intriguing option. It would also be interesting as far as gauging how much of an impact Vick can bring to a team. |

When was this? |
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 8)
The bringing in of the vet WRs is purely competition to get the newbies to raise their game. Seriously, what mind blowing things can the newbies learn from Galloway and Wade over 5 weeks? Answer: not much. It would take more than a month to instill leardership skills in our young WRs. They might be able to teach them some technique, but that is all.

LOL, yeah they have a saying down here in New Orleans "Next Year". They always have said this about the Saints, that next year would be their year. I think some of the most shocked football fans last year were Saints fans with their teams success. I have seen first hand as a season ticket holder here, a team that was a perennial loser, turn around and win the superbowl in 4 seasons. The Saints were 4-12 with all different personnel and schemes. New coaching staff, core players, and philosophy brought a SB. I think we are heading in the right direction, but we will just have to wait untill the season to see how far we are from being a contender. |

Yes, he's been a DC for the Saints and Steelers prior to being a HC and then the Rams for 2 seasons before taking over as interim HC. |

This is easily the most talented defense he's overseen in a while. Also I think it's important to realize that many great defensive coordinators go on to be head coaches with struggling defenses. Marvin Lewis is probably the most prominent example with his success coaching the greatest defense of all time and then making the Redskins one of the better units in the league. Wade Phillips is another example of a coach who has been a DC for dominant defenses but has seen his defenses struggle when he became a head coach. Obviously Dallas's D is back on track but for a while they were struggling. Even Jim Swartz last year oversaw one of the leagues worse defensive units. The thing is when you're a head coach you don't have time to micromanage what got you the job in the first place, weather it be coordinating an offense or defense. Thats why you need to find good assistants that can hold their own and a lot of these guys like Lewis and Phillips have struggled to find those guys. Rex Ryan on the other hand seems to have a more then competent defensive staff. So I wouldn't say the Saints D under Haslet is necessarily a reflection of his ability as a D-Coordinator. |
