Re: Lavar Gone
We saved 4 million and that's about it. If there was a CBA in place we could release him in June and push some of the money to next year's cap. Since there isn't a CBA in place and it looks like there won't be one LaVar would have cost the Redskins 12+ million even if he was released in June.

Re: Lavar Gone
and if the cba gets signed..... DUMBEST MOVE IN HISTORY
Why do you say that? This move was inevitable, I'm just glad we got some cap relief this year. LaVar has barely contributed over the last 2 years, yet was the highest paid player on the team. His contract would have been a burden every year that he was here.
I'm sad to see him go but I knew it would happen. Sometimes you have to cut your losses... |
Re: Lavar Gone
because this deal reeks with the assumption that there would be no CBA. Lavar should give the team the 6 million he and his semi-retarded agents owe the skins. 4.2 million. WTF is that. seems like a negotiation and they met in the middle. We could have waited till june and got 6.5 and we could spend during free agency assuming we would have that 6.5 in june. we also could have ordered a large screen TV for lavar and his nice living room. We held all the power. WE don't need to do this to get under the cap if the CBA gets signed. Ofcourse if the cba does not get signed this might make sense

yeah that'd be awesome if i wake up in the morning and there's an announcement saying school has been pushed back until wednesday due to NFL Labor Negotiations lolol. |
Re: Lavar Gone
Does anyone know how much money this will save us NEXT year???? I read it only saved us about 100K this year....I'm hoping it will prove worth it next year when we have his left over cap space to be REAL buyers....

If there is no CBA extension then it will not matter next year, meaning 2007, because it will be a cappless year. |
Re: Lavar Gone
Its not often I post anything, but this just makes me sick!
|
Re: Lavar Gone
Well....if he BOUGHT OUT HIS OWN CONTRACT, then I think its pretty obvious where both he and the team wanted to be.....I was all for keeping LaVar, but if he payed his way out of Washington, I guess he was full of sh*t with all that Redskin for life talk...I'm still a Lavar fan, I wish him luck, but I'm not gonna kill myself over the move.
|
Re: Lavar Gone
If Lavar had stayed, his cap number would have worked out to $12+ mil ($5+ mil signing bonus + $550K salary +$6.5 mil June Roster bonus). His dead money number works out like this:
Signing Bonus Acceleration: $12.846 mil Buy Out: -$4 mil Net: $8.846 mil So it looks like the cap savings will only be about $3 mil (his roster slot has to be replaced for cap purposes). |
Re: Lavar Gone
I enjoyed watching him play. But most of his tenure was during years of subpar team play. Different coaches, new staffs every year. Bad offense, bad defense, etc. So watching Arrington freelance and knock Aikman out and all that was a bright spot in years of pathetic Redskin play. Gibbs is here, Williams is here. Now Saunders. Arrington hasn't played great in the past 2 seasons. Don't know about yall, but I'll trust the staff on this one. I will miss him, but as we all know this is big business. For the team it's probably a good thing unless he ends up elsewhere in the nfc east! In an Eagles, Giants or Cowboys jersey I might cry watching him smash Brunell. GL LA! Do we pick up Shawn Barber?
|
Re: Lavar Gone
Sorry, I am just not heartbroken about this. He was a talented player who, during the lean years, stood out and always talked to the fans. I wish him well. But, of late, it had become clear that either he was dumb as a post when it came to following his coaches or just incapable of playing w/in a scheme. It also became clear that the defense could play VERY WELL w/out him.
We get cap relief, rid ourselves of a distraction and LaVar can see if anyone else wants to pay him 10M to play next year. I for one would not be upset about him playing in division. Saunders will have a few sucker plays for him. |
Re: Lavar Gone
JoeRedskins you're right it'd be quite easy to sucker him, but I'd hate to see him on Brunell.

Re: Lavar Gone
as much as i love lavar, this works for the skins.the last year and a half lavar has done a whole lot of complaining with only alittle bit of playing.he also makes a ton of money.any ideas on who is going to pay him what he thinks he is worth?
|
Re: Lavar Gone
Nice gesture by Mr. A to help the team's cap. I thought he was all about himself with the Where's the other 6.5, and why are'nt they playing me crap before a big game distractions. Not my idea of a real redskin.

Re: Lavar Gone
I know it is said when describing most things that are bad, but Mods please remove the phrase of mild cancer. There is nothing mild about cancer, either you have it or you don't. Out of respect for me, would you please remove it?

Re: Lavar Gone
Well, I always liked Levar and wish the best for him. I just pray he does not land in the NFC East. ack!
I agree with CRT3. Mild Cancer is like Partial Amputation peace to all Hail Skins and hang on for this week's wacky ride! |

I think he could end up with a west cost team either Niners or Raiders. |

anyhow, a sad day for #56fan, 56fanatic, railcon56@comcast.net and of course, Offiss56
this really makes my Monday morning suck ass. I think he left with class and by paying 4+million back, giving us additional cap space will save face for him. I hope to god he goes to the AFC. My guess would be pittsburg since that is where he is from. If there is an agreement signed, there is a possiblity of him resigning, but by the way the coaching staff has acted(not necesarily bad) just by thinking they can do w/ someone cheaper, I doubt he would resign. |
Re: Lavar Gone
I differ from you guys. I'm happy as a pig in sh*t that he is gone. He plays like a chicken with his head cut off. When his knee is healthy and he has speed, he can play like a chicken with his head cut off and still make plays. His speed made up for his tendencies to be out of position.
But if you have balky knees, or if you're starting to age, your speed declines. And all of a sudden playing like the chicken with no head starts to become a liability. This move should have cleared quite a bit of cap room for us. I will do my best to figure out how much. We're much better off without him. Bravo Gibbs. |
Re: Lavar Gone
if lavar goes to the eagles, giants or cowfvcks, then we will know he has been lying this whole time about loving the redskins
You know, I was going to go right past this, but I had to stop and respond. Dude, that is rediculous. These guys love playing football. LaVar loved the area, the fans and the redskins. If he went to one of the NFC east teams that spells doom for us twice a year. It doesn't mean that he hates the redskins, or lied. are you serious. Are we back at highschool here. This is a business and thats how todays NFL is. Emmit smith, to me, was never a Cardinal he will be a cowboy for life. same w/ Jerry Rice always a 49er, Jonny U always a colt. LAVAR will always be a REDSKINS!! |
Re: Lavar Gone
Could this be a loop hole in getting under the cap for them to release him and sign him back to a contract that benefits him as well as the team? Not sure the #'s or the legality of that. This was done extremely quiet and if it was on bad terms someone would have spouted off and made this into a Laverneus Coles deal where Snyder told him to watch it on his plasma or restructure. Maybe for once though it is as simple as it sounds and the best for both sides.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2355921
Not sure if this was posted in here or not: Per ESPN, the moves saves us $4.2 million in cap room this year, as he forfeited $4.2 million in guarantees. That means the bonuses that were accelerated to the 2006 season were reduced by $4.2 million. Smart move for the Skins. That means before any restructures, we're $16 million over the cap. After Brunell, Portis, Thomas, Jansen, Wynn, and Springs restructured, we should be able to get under the cap just by releasing our bums (Bowen, Harris, Noble, etc). |
Re: Lavar Gone
Good luck Lavar.. Hope to see you do well (preferably in the AFC) wherever you land..
|
Re: Lavar Gone
This sucks for several different reasons; a face of the franchise is gone, a guy who might be on the verge of maturing as a person & player, and the whole thing has just been bad karma. WE still don't know who's right or wrong in this, though all of us probably hate the postons.
But if things couldn't be mended w/Lavar here, I commend Gibbs for brokering the deal this past year to restructure his contract & mgmt. now for not letting this thing fester like the 6.5 bonus dispute did. This looks like another poor biz move by Lavar, kinda like him not giving the nfl permission to sell his jerseys a few years back. If he thinks he's gonna get big $ this year, he may be surprised. My early pick is Arizona, they have the $ and would probably love to have someone w/his star appeal. He wants to play in Pitt, & probably would for less $. Sadly, philly is in position to sign him to & he's a Pa. native. But, you never know, since teams can rescind the cuts they've made during the cba negotiations, maybe just maybe, Lavar will realize this was a mistake & Danny et al will welcome him back like the prodigal son, at a discounted rate of course. This is highly, highly unlikely, but its not unlikely that Lavar will realize this is not the best business move for him. |
Re: Lavar Gone
It's a good bet SD picks him up if they can afford it. He loved playing for Marty, and Marty loved him.

Re: Lavar Gone
I think Lavar and Williams have had issues the whole time that Williams has been with Washington. Williams will probably be here for a while and our next head coach. The team and Lavar know this and may have just thought it was time to part ways.

yeah, his game was coming back to him & he was just starting to show some discipline in the system. HIs problem has always been his individuality, on & off the field. He's been a bit self-absorbed & that comes through in his rebellion on the field, freelancing & biting like a gator for every junior varsity play fake that comes his way. I was thinking at the end of the season & playoffs that he was finally willing to play team ball. Now, he might mature somewhere else at a much lower price. Oh well, maybe we should consider this the last tie to the era of big Danny signings. |
Re: Lavar Gone
I know people are upset over the fact that we lost "the face of the team", but I truly believe all of this CBA stuff was a blessing in disguise (provided it gets extended). It allowed us to put some pressure on people to make some moves saturating the free agency market, driving prices down. If the CBA gets extended we will actually have plenty of cap room to make some big acquisitions.
