According to PFF we were one of the best teams rushing the passer on Sunday. Mainly because ARI ran a bunch of 3 step drops which makes it difficult to gain a real rush.

Also, D-Hall said it best before the game. Why pay a WR millions of dollars to match up vs another DB who makes million? When you can have a RB/TE combo that makes nightmarish match ups to LB/S. Doctson was never going to beat Peterson.

I agree with you. That's why I didn't think there was a big drop off between Kirk and Alex. I think Alex is better under pressure than Kirk is anyways.

PFF is right. And it was our pass rush that caused the Cardinals to choose to run nothing but three step drops.
I didnt get to see game so I dont like reading this from their observations, looks like what saved us is going up big early to take Johnson out of the game,at least that would be my take from what their saying.

"David Johnson picked up where he left off from his 2016 campaign. He could have put up a huge game if he was given a heavier workload on the ground. The offensive line was opening up holes, and Johnson found them with ease at times. "
You need to watch the game.

I know the Cards are neither the Pats nor the Rams... But I'd like to temper this "it's only the Cards" thing a little bit:

-Last year this Arizona team had the 6th best overall defense and the 6th best run defense

-David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald (27), Chandler Jones (28), Deone Bucannon and Patrick Peterson (23) are still on this team...
They're not the 2016 Browns: they have 3 players on the top 100 list on their roster, we have one (TW) ... (I know, this list's a joke, but you get my point).

Glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking this.......they may be one of the better defences we will face this year, certainly better than the Colts, which makes the first half offensive performance all the more impressive

I don't want to hear it was only the Cards BS from anyone, not when a good portion of fans were sulking around predicting doom and gloom from this game.

Anytime you go on the road especially on the west coast and kick a team's ass up and down the field all day long it's a good thing.

all 7 new head coaches lost.

not trying to take anything away from a great team win, but I remember how I went to the Oakland game last year, was amazed at our team, and then with everything that happened, the team went in the dumpster.

I see us as one of the NFC playoff teams, which is saying alot in the conference, but the team has to play every game CONSISTENTLY, and we haven't seen that in past years.

After 5 straight losing openers and 4 of those under Gruden a 7-3 win against last year's Browns would have been a great start.

The Cardinals aren't a terrible team. They're not good, but they're not terrible that's for sure. Robert Nkemdiche, Deone Buchanan, Patrick Peterson, these are very good players.

Here Cooley talks about their aggressiveness. They did get after us with a couple double A gap blitz looks. Smith went down against one of them. He got away from several others, and Gruden countered them beautifully with RPOs and screens to Thompson.

Reading the pregame thread, there was a little bit of doom and gloom or at least a lot of pessimism going on about the Cards game. Most people felt the Cards were a very good team and the 'skins would struggle, even if they felt the 'skins would pull out the W. Now that the 'skins pretty much beat up on the Cards, the sentiment was, "Well, the Cards are an awful team!"

I'm like you, I don't think the Cards are an awful team. I think the 'skins really have improved a lot and folks need to be ready for a solid 'skins team this year.

Not just solid, but very good. The difference this year is we can win on either side of the ball. There will be games our offense wins for us, games our defense wins for us, and games where both play well and we win comfortably (like Arizona).

11-5 belie dat.

Re: Birds Post game (Redskins 24 Cardinals 6)

Makes sense to bring back Quick. Too bad about the rook WRs! Hope at least one makes it back...

About "it's only the cards": Like most things, it's a bit of both. They aren't that good and we played great. Let's build on it! Winning is what matters.

The big challenge is not getting complacent. Gruden has never been a great motivator, so it's gotta come from inside the team. I hope that Smith can lead, the D stays strong, and, as long as he lasts, AP brings the intensity. We NEED the Indie game--shit gets a lot tougher after that. (Am I the only one who thinks we've got a very tough schedule?)

Beat the Colts and Packers all jump in Scheed's 11+ win wagon.

Going back and watching the game.

Our O line was dominant but something new, our TE's (all of them) blocked so much better than last year.

Agreed! One of the first things I said after re-watching the game! Even our WRs blocked better than before.

It gave me a good feeling about the new level of excitement in this locker room, wonder how much of it is Smith's leadership ?

Don't overlook the presence of AP in the backfield.
Having a future hall of fame RB to block for must be a big incentive.

I believe it was Matty that said Alex was smooth.

If you all have the game dvr or NFL game pass go back and watch the speed option play.

I have never seen a dude look cooler and smoother than Smith on an option like that.

Smooth personified.
