Whenever there is a show with reasonable back and forth I’ll watch…I think Bill Maher has done a better job over the last 5-6 years to bring some semblance of equal time.

So Nicki Haley started the late term abortion debate up again a bit today. One of my pet peeves are people and especially the media using a statistical trick to support a position. So it is being reported that 62-80% (Depending on the poll) of Americans support most or all abortions to fight the argument against late term elective abortions. Do you see the trick used to defend late term abortions?

as a person who works with numbers all day never trust percentages; we manipulate % in power points all the time to stress a point

example

[B]67% of folks enjoy shit in their chicken[/B]

oh wow! that is weird

well only 3 people were asked and 2 of them enjoyed the shit; oh by the way the 3 people asked were clinically insane

I used to be a pretty loyal viewer of Real Time, I'll still watch based on the guests, but the last few years Maher has become the old man yelling at the clouds.

Are you saying that 60% of the time the percentage(s) are manipulated every time?

Just bothers me. 91% of abortions occur in the first thirteen weeks and saying most Americans support those is an accurate statement. But they report it like this in the news "most Americans support most [B]or all abortions[/B] - still an accurate statement because they do support most abortions. However a vast majority don't support all abortions they just are tucking that bit in with what most do support. (Apologize for posting this in the wrong thread).

100% of the time. All polls and stats can be manipulated to one side or the other.


50% of those polled say the glass of water is half empty. By the way only two people were polled. Makes that poll 100% true and honest.
