Griffin is more like Fran Tarkenton than Michael Vick.
yeah, like during the browns game. or the dallas game. morris can run regardless, we just stopped calling running plays.
Browns game they shut down Alfred until Kirk got hot and started connecting on passes; we kept them off balance then everyone was doing good, even Royster. Dallas was so beat up on defense and the also feared RG3 would tear them up again. You were saying? |

And Tarkenton played until he was 87 years old, I think.... Let's hope RGIII can do that. |

You were saying?
yeah, you're right, morris is awful and totally riding RGIII's coat tails. that's the only reason he was the #2 RB this year and #2 in broken tackles... because of RGIII. seriously, get a life. |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Great post, Summo. I, too, hate seeing a player get hurt, whether they're a Redskin or not. It also makes me sick to see how many people seem to be delighted by RG3's injury. Hey, what can you expect from Cowboys and Giants fans? I just wish they'd move the **** out of DC/MD/VA.

seriously, get a life.
First off I never said he's bad. I said he's not nearly as effective without RG3. Lets put our thinking caps on here. If a RB runs between the tackles and the QB runs outside the tackles, thats a wide area to cover, and becomes extremely hard for a defense to defend. But if you take away one of those guys, the other guy that is playing becomes less effective, because the defense only has to defend one area instead of two areas. Shanahan knew that if he kept running it with Morris that eventually it was going to be stopped and ineffective and just a hobbled QB throwing inaccurate passes. Should he have tried it? Sure so that there weren't people saying "Why didn't you run it with Morris?" But it would not have been all that affective. Thats a guarantee. Listen to ESPN and NFLN and hear them tell you all about how Morris is good in large part because Griffin posses that other running threat defenses have to defend. Think of RG3 as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as Alfred Morris. Scottie Pippen wasn't anything special without MJ, but with MJ he was great and one of the best players in the league. I'm trying to dummy this scenario down as good as I can for you so that you can understand football better by using other sport examples. |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
wait, you're trying to dumb down football so i can understand it?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! what a joke. |

Fran had neither speed nor a gun for an arm. However he was the most evasive QB ever, and the fact that he could extend plays like crazy made his passing very effective. Probably the most exciting QB to watch play ever. So not at all like RG, IMHO. RG has it all... And Michael Vick doesn't even belong in this conversation. |

[B]Don't blame the player, coach, field or doctors for RGIII's knee injury. A Washington Post "journalist" says he hurt his knee because the team is racist. The Redskins’ bad karma - The Washington Post
For this Asshole to suggest that RG3 tore his knee up because of bad karma is a ****ing joke. RG3 didn't name the team, or even pick to play for them. If there is such a thing as karma it wouldn't be bestowed upon him. As far as the team name goes, for selfish reasons I don't want to see it change. I grew up a "Redskins" fan and I hope to die one. I do however feel bad for people who are offended by it and hope there can be some resolution for them if they are sincere. People get too caught up in labels however and if they are truly forward thinkers they wouldn't let it bother them. |

I can't comment on that comparison since I never seen Tarkenton play. I have seen a million highlights of him in slow motion, but when I was growing up I remember him from "That's Incredible" and not on the filed. Are you even old enough to have seen him play? |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
No. :D
But up until RGIII, he was probably the best passing and running combo QB ever. OK, maybe up until Steve Young, but Fran did it in an era where QBs did not play like that. He was the first real dual-threat QB. QBs in that era were all statues in the pocket. Tark ran for about 300 yards a season and 32 career rushing TDs. Tobin Rote in the 50s was the first real rushing QB threat, but wasn't the passer that Tarkenton was. Tobin Rote NFL & AFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com Oh...back on track for the thread...you better believe I'm dying a Redskins fan. Even if some PC-assclowns manage to force a name change, I'm still calling the team the Redskins. Heck, for the same reason, I still like to call the Washington basketball team the Bullets. Wizards is a retarded name...sounds more fitting for some pathetic soccer team. |

Exactly! And the mayor of D.C. wanting to force the 'skins to change their name if they want to move back to the district is nothing more than a way for him to garner more votes for his reelection, that's it. |

I would think, especially after last season's run, that he would garner more votes by putting on the face like, Hey we want them here but Snyder just isn't moving them right now. The name thing is just a personal axe to grind, and will cost him as many votes as it gets him. Although in some political circles you must be PC in order to survive the upper level demagoguery. |

I saw Tarkenton play and think that he is not a bad comparison for Gryphon in terms of style: dangerous and quick legs, ability to extend plays to create big opportunities, a deep ball which is both powerful and accurate, and natural leadership. But Griff is better than Tarkenton. |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Of course he's better in terms of ability. Impossible to compare the eras though.
Fran Tarkenton was born in Richmond if anyone cares. |
