I am for the death penalty, but people will do bad things regardless of the consequences. I believe, most of the time by the time the act is committed, the offender has moved past that state where a rational thought such as "I could suffer the death penalty" or "I could go to jail for a long time" - would impact his/her decision. Also, with judicial review, and appeals, the death penalty has been found to be as costly as housing a prisoner for life.

Personally, I think the only valid reason for having the death penalty is that when someone takes a human life through murder or with intent to do evil, that person forfeits their right to life.

I'm not saying this POS didn't deserve to die, I just hate that whole "we shouldn't pay to keep him alive" argument, mainly because it's wrong.

Another interesting perspective.

"Of all the arguments in support of capital punishment, perhaps the most emotionally compelling is that it provides "closure" for the loved ones of murder victims. Prosecuting attorneys, politicians and journalists commonly refer to how executions allow family members to "move on" from their pain, providing a sense of relief at knowing that "justice" was finally served. "
