I was just thinking.... Maybe the reason Taylor fired Rosenhaus was that he said they would hold out if necessary, and Taylor didn't want that. So he (finally) chose Mato/Moorad, who were obviously determined to get the deal done. Pure speculation, but it makes sense to me...
Plus, from what I read, they primarily work with baseball players, so maybe it gives him more attention as one of their only NFL clients.

Anyway, it is AWESOME to see that the deal is done and he will not only be in TC on time, but is signed in time to attend at least one day of passing camp!!! (not sure if he will participate today or not)

Seems very possible. But since it took SO long to get a new agent signed, I would be more inclined to believe it was related to the agent fee percentage.

ST had a 7:30am flight to DC today, so it's very possible he'll participate in today's passing camp. :)

Things seem to be falling in to place very nicely all of a sudden, let's hope this trend continues in to camp and we don't have many bumps in the road.

Not that I really care, but just wondering where KWII is in the signing process. Has anyone heard?

Glad to see Sean is signed.

I haven't heard anything, but don't be surprised if he hold out.

The latest word is that the Browns expect Winslow to be a hold-out. The Poston brothers are trying to get Eli Manning type money.

You've got to be kidding me! What a dick.

I read dont expect to see him until september, perhaps late september. They are trying to get big money for him that unrealistic for the number six pick. I cant beleive his dad wanted him to have those agents.

There's a Taylor article on CNNSI:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/nfl/07/27/bc.fbn.redskins.taylor.ap/index.html?cnn=yes

It details some of the terms of the deal:

"ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The Washington Redskins agreed to a seven-year, $18 million deal with first-round draft pick Sean Taylor, The Associated Press has learned.

The amount of the contract was confirmed by a party involved in the negotiations, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been signed. The source said Taylor will receive a $7.2 million signing bonus, and that the total bonus money in the deal -- including option and roster bonuses -- exceeds $13 million.

The source also said the contract has escalators that can make the deal worth up to $40 million over six years, while the seventh year can be voided. The escalators are based on three areas -- playing time, on-field performance and Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections."

CrazyCanuck 07-27-2004 01:53 PM

Quick Calculations

I did some quick calculations and I expect Taylor's contract to resemble something like this (in terms of total cap hits):

2004: $1,430
2005: $2,505
2006: $2,580
2007: $3,455
2008: $4,200
2009: $2,200
2010: $1,500

Hogskin 07-27-2004 02:31 PM

Canuck, thanks. That doesn't look bad at all. But will the "escalator" clauses drive it up? Looks like the contract could end up being more than doubled if he kicks butt.
