I am a big Ayodele fan as well, but I just heard the other day he was a Cowboys ballboy as a kid. So he's tainted |
Why pay more money for only slight improvement? Clark did a pretty solid job the last two years; we have other bigger needs.
Slight improvement? Archuleta is much more than just a slight improvement over Clark, let's get real. Plus he's a good insurance policy for Taylor. |
Bet the mortgage that, by the end of the weekend, the Redskins will have added St. Louis strong safety Adam Archuleta (the relationship between agent Gary Wichard and personnel chief Vinny Cerrato won't hurt on this one) and San Francisco end Andre Carter to an already solid defense, one that statistically ranked No. 9 in the league in 2005.
Carter, who has started at end in the 4-3 and rush linebacker in a 3-4, will provide the Redskins the consistent upfield pass rusher they have been missing. Under brilliant coordinator Gregg Williams, one of the NFL's most creative defensive minds, Archuleta should dramatically upgrade his game. Archuleta is a liability when playing in space, but he could become a player in the mold of Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu, with a bit less speed. Archuleta can be explosive over a short area, although he doesn't have Polamalu's range, and Williams will conjure up ways to move him around close to the line of scrimmage. The Redskins picked up one of their targeted players Saturday when they traded with the 49ers for receiver Brandon Lloyd. The Skins gave up their third-round pick this year and their fourth-round selection in 2007.
who's holding the paper on our house now ??? LOL |
Slight improvement?
Archuleta is much more than just a slight improvement over Clark, let's get real. Plus he's a good insurance policy for Taylor.
Here are last year's stats: Archuleta: In 14 games--70 tackles, 17 assists, 3.5 sacks, 1 int for 85 yds TD, 2 passes defensed Clark: In 13 games--57 tackles, 15 assists, 0.5 sacks, 3 int for 10 yds, 2 passes defensed It would seem from the evidence that Archuleta is better in run support and less effective in pass coverage (based on stats alone). I realize, however, that stats can be misleading. Yes, Archuleta has more talent, but talent (as we have seen with Heisman Trophy winners) isn't everything. Let's also not forget that a big reason Archuleta's tackles are higher than Clark's may have something to do with the Rams' pitiful run defense, which forced him to make more tackles since their front seven couldn't do it. Again, I'm not saying I dislike Archuleta; he should end up helping the team. I'm just afraid that we're screwing one of our own and possibly hurting some team cohesion. |
Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
Losing Clark isn't going to cost us any team cohesion in my opinion, I think alot of people are really overvalueing Clark.
Archuleta is clearly more talented and as we've seen, one of GW's strengths is getting the maximum from his players. I think Archuleta could really blow up under GW. |
Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
I hope you're right, but I'm also afraid we are screwing Clark. Nothing against Archuleta, but I'm hoping we didn't overpay him only to end up losing Clark in the process.

Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
Personally I don't understand the lovefest for Ryan Clark.
Decent player, overachiever, solid guy. I'm not hating I just don't think he's anything special. Archuleta is by far the more talented player and has much more upside and could really blossom under Gregg Williams. He is potentially a special player. |
Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
Okay, lets stop throwing the hugs and kisses in Archuleta's way. Unfortunately I live in St. Louis. I've seen this guy play every week since he has been a Ram. I'm not overly impressed. He is a hard hitter. A good blitzing safety. Has poor closing speed and coverage ability. Williams must plan on using him as a roverback (half linebacker/half safety). He would do well there. As a strong safety, he would be a liability in pass coverage, just like Matt Bowen.

Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
i dunno. is he slower than that 4.4 40 time indicated?
|
Re: slobby P says bet the house: Archuleta and Carter will be Skins
he might be now (injuries or soem such). I don't think he's worth $5mill a year though. I would rather have clark and more money at LB or CB or OL/DL than a 5$mill safety.
