Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency
You're kidding, right? All those guys are old (e.g. Moulds, Jurevicious, Campbell, Pryce), have bad character (e.g. Robinson, Abraham), or will be costly (e.g. Moulds, Abraham, Pryce).
No thanks. I'll pass. If I go to cap hell, I'd prefer to have gone for some younger, better guys.
What would you define as old? Under 30? |
Why isn't anyone scared sh1tless about QB?
because a healthy brunell w/ open receivers means many touchdowns and no interceptions. unhealthy brunell means jason campbell (unless gibbs goes into another fit of "i love mark in the in the rain, i love mark in a train, i would not could not put ramsey in, i do not like anyone but him") and jason campbell has had only good things said about him. i think we're in good shape qb-wise |
Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency
I agree we should chill a bit with free agency but we definitely neeed a #2 receiver. This just isn't debateable. The other thing is Saunders may want specific personnel for his offense and maybe we should grant him some "shopping rites if he is doing some of the cooking."
What would you define as old? Under 30?
I'd say in terms of free agents the old/young line is 30. Though I'd actually prefer a productive 33 year old than a 30 year old. At 30 they aren't old enough to show much deterioration and will still cost a lot. That's a big gamble. At 33 they have had a decent amount of time to show what age is doing to them and they are much cheaper. A solid 33 year old with a solid contract is much less of a gamble to me. Not sure what Bruce is off the bat( I think 33) but age isn't totally killing him so at a decent cost he seems like a good short term solution to me. Otherwise stick to the 26-29 year olds. |
Definitely want Isaac Bruce, a decent kicker, and a CORNERBACK. And I'll take a pass rusher if we can find one that doesn't
break the bank.
And Sean Taylor dosen't go to jail. |
Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency

I am. If Brunell goes down, so does the rest of the team in flames. |

Because there isn't much that can be done. What is your proposed solution to your proposed problem? |
Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency
Sign Bruce and draft a WR to groom into the system. Bruce only good for another couple of years. But he should be solid for those two years.
There isn't going to be any worth wild receivers left when we pick. |
Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency
I don't think we'll go crazy in free agency at all.
I do think we'll look long and hard at the two main problem areas, WR and DE, and go from there. |

I think we'll pick up 1-3 new starters and some cheap depth. My main point in creating the thread was to temper the, "let's get Abraham, Howard, Randel-El, Ray Lewis, etc." talk. Getting one of those guys wouldn't be going crazy. Getting boatload of them would be. |
Re: Why We Shouldn't Go Crazy in Free Agency
I know a lot of people are excited about the new CBA ... and cap room. Trust me, I am absolutely elated. However, I hope we don't go crazy in free agency (assuming we get the cap room to go crazy). A lot of people have been talking about going after big name free agents. Why?
We did very well last year with a core group of solid guys. Why wreck team chemistry by revamping the roster? Sure, we need a few guys here and there, but I doubt we need more than 1-3 new starters. Just my two cents.
Not about going after the top name guys anyway! ait's about picking up players that fit our needs and are young enough to last! IE... M.Washington kind of guy! I think you can get these kind of players to fill needs like #2 WR,LB,OL,DL and CB help. Then use the draft to pick the best play out there when it our pick. I know Gibbs has given a lot to this team and shown why FA should come here. We will see if it is a selling point! I hope so! :towel: Thank god we can talk about this and NOT THE CBA!!! |

WR are hit and miss. Good scouting can find a solid number 2 WR in the middle rounds and that's what we need. Draft a young guy to develop. Hell even first rounders usually suck so why waste a first rounder on one? I am a firm believer in taking the 14th best WR who looks like a lock to be a solid number 2 guy than taking what amounts to a flyer on a guy in the first round who "has the tools" to be a number 1. There are lots of busts in the first round and a disproportionate amount of them are WRs. |

I am a Randel-EL guy but not over paying! As for the rest I think there are others that fill nedds that aren't BIG names that will be great! I think 2-3 starters and so depth on the OL is the way to go as well! |
