Yeah, I hate that Monica Lewinsky chick too!!! |
Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
I guess if we had Jacobs in practice and DMac in the games we would have an all around decent reciever.?

Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
To get rid of LaVar would take a serious offer from another team. I doubt any team would be willing to part with a player of LaVar's caliber, especially one we need (what do we need besides DE?). The question then comes down to what kind of draft pick compensations can we expect in a LaVar trade?
My prediction, 80% chance of LaVar staying! |
Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
Problem is I don't think anyone would want to trade for him with that current contract, he'd have to be willing to ink a new deal with the new team.

That does present a problem. He gets in the neighborhood of 10 mil in 2006? That ain't gonna' happen. |
Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
Prime candidates are:
Matt Bowen - save $2 million Walt Harris - save $2 million Cory Raymer - save $1 million Brandon Noble - save $1.5 million (did we cut him already?) John Hall - save $1.2 million Daniels definitely stays. I'd look for an extension for Dockery. He's a keeper.
I would not cut Hall. Compitent place kicking is to hard to find out there. Look at the cowgirls troubles in that area this season. I know we get frustrated by Hall's injuries, but when he's healthy he is a pretty solid kicker that doesn't often miss many makeable kicks. |

Exactly, when he's healthy. |
Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
Well they can't just cut him without having a good replacement available. No one likes kickers but everyone sure does hate them when they cost you games...

Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
I simply refuse to believe that this coaching staff can't find a place for LaVar. The guy isn't whining about being a Redskin and asking for a way out. In fact, he has said repeatedly that he wants to remain a Redskin. I can't see an attitude problem from LaVar; far from it, he's got a great attitude. Marvin Lewis managed to make LaVar into a stud so why can't Williams? I like both Williams and LaVar and will ultimately support whatever decision the team makes, but I'm troubled by his absence from the field on 3rd downs and expected release.

Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
This is a great year for increase in salary cap, something like 15 million. So if we have to part ways with LaVar, which is too bad, then it's the time to do it. Personally I think there will be significant interest in him in the league, though maybe not at his current salary. A lot of teams need the big force that he offers, whereas the Skins are more designed for constant presssue.

Re: Cap Casualties in offseason
To quote Clemenza from The Godfather:
Taylor Jacobs? Won't be seeing him no more. Matt Bowens a likely hit. As are any of the following: Walt Harris Omar Stoutmire Ryan Bosghetti Aki Jones Cory Raymer I think any defensive player is constantly under scrutiny with Gregg Williams. He is constantly on the lookout for new people to push established players. As for Lavar. I think they would have been willing to extend him grace if he had not gone crying to the media. To Gibbs, I suspect that's the equivilant of 10 drunk driving arrests. |

I would agree with this. We'd need to have a solid replacement lined up if cutting Hall is going to make any sense. Hall hits the FGs when games are on the line, and he's pretty money from long range. I just meant to say he's a candidate for being axed, since it would save a million or so and he's always getting hurt. I'd only axe him if we really REALLY needed the cap room. |

Wasn't Antonio Pierce saying the same stuff at this time last year? How he loved being a Redskin and wanted to remain a Redskin? I'm not necessarily saying it's the same situation this time around. I just tend to be sort of skeptical when players bring the fans into their "negotiatons" with management. Almost like we're hostages. Player X says how much he loves the fans and the city and suddenly the team is in public relations crisis mode. |
