Watched Get Smart the other day for some escapist/slapstick humor. Was surprisingly pleased. I liked the original series and was worried that Steve Carrell would just be Mike from The Office. The movie referenced the original series here and there but it wasn't necessary viewing for this version.

My wife and I are considering getting as some "go to" fluff when we feel like something light and amusing. (Remember The Titans is my "go to" football movie - great soundtrack).

Glad you liked it. I watched it again with my kids, and they all got a kick out of it.
Don't laugh but I finally got around to watching No Country for Old Men last night. Very good flick, I enjoyed it but was it really best picture worthy? I think it's debateable.
No worries Matty... there's too many damn films out (great and otherwise) to catch immediately.

I think Coen brother films become more impressive with subsequent viewings. Take a few weeks (and if you have time), watch it again. You may like it even more or less, but give it a try!

Yeah it's definitely worth watching again.

"Are you thinking what I am thinking?"

"Well, if you're thinking 'oh my god oh my god, a swordfish is about to go through my head' then yes we were!"

Too damn funny!

I decided to watch it again a couple of months later (and after I read the book, so that might have helped) and I really loved it.
I can't really put my finger on why I liked it so much more the second time around but I just did.

Got a chance to see JCVD last night. Van Damme should be nominated for Best Actor... And you think I'm joking!

Pineapple Express will have to be watched at a later time when I can get high. Wasn't that funny to me.

Get Smart impressed me. Wasn't expecting much but it kept me very entertained.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was one of the funniest flicks I've seen in a long while. I could have gone without all the cock shots but great movie.

I saw Slumdog Millionaire, or as I now like to call it "Slumdog Minnonaire", and I really enjoyed. Great story, great acting, and great directing all around. I know not everyone will like it (about 1/3 of the movie is subtitled and I know that can throw some people off) but I can see why its getting so much praise.
I give it 5 1/2 out of 6 buffalo wings.

Everybody I know that's seen it says it's the movie of the year... I've got free passes to an indie theater that's playing it, so I have to peep it before it's gone. Danny Boyle is one of my favorite directors.

I caught Gran Torino and The Wrestler... both very good flicks. The Wrestler is probably Aronofsky's most traditional work, yet... Rourke is really good (seeing Marisa Tomei play a stripper is an added bonus).

Going to catch "Taken" later this week... it's supposedly an amped-up "Bourne"-type flick starring Liam Neeson.

I love Danny Boyle too, Trainspotting is one of my favorite movies, and this was right up there in terms of quality.

I'm really looking forward to The Wrestler. Probably going to check that out next week. Mickey Rourke is a great actor so it'll be great to see him really shine. Plus, I've always had a thing for Marisa Tomei, so that should be bueno.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Just saw "Slumdog Millionaire" and ... not bad.

Not as good as everyone has been cracking it up to be... but not a bad movie. This quote matches my feelings best;

"I think it’s visually brilliant. But I have problems with the story line. I find the storyline unconvincing. It just couldn’t happen. I’m not adverse to magic realism but there has to be a level of plausibility, and I felt there were three or four moments in the film where the storyline breached that rule."
