Come up with a new name for the Redskins

This makes it a little better I guess. The statues are definitely cool. Had no idea and I’ve been to Cleveland a couple times. Lol. How the fuck did i miss them? |
Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
Cleveland Queens has a nice ring to it.
Cleveland Nancy-Boys is good too. |
That's true that name does suck! I'm in NY we have the Knickerbockers, which is stupid considering they are named after a style of shorts but it sound cooler as the Knicks.
Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
In honor of the terrible name selected by Cleveland, I would like to get out front of our own equally bad, or worse new moniker.
I nominate the Washington SwampDonkeys for your consideration. Before you immediately dismiss this idea as a jest, I would like to point out the apropos nature of the name, and it’s non partisan political nature, as SwampDonkeys of every color and stripe reside and indeed work their grift in the DMV. Lastly for your consideration, we can keep our beloved touchdown song with the most minimal of lyrical changes. 🎵 Hail to the SwampDonkeys! 🎵 Heehaw victory! 🎵 Donkeys on the warpath! 🎵 Grifting our money! Thanks in advance for your careful consideration, and have a great weekend before TRAINING CAMP! |

The Cleveland logo is really bad , the one with the wings. Literally a child could have drawn that.

I think Jason's team is being very smart with the whole process AND how they communicate about it. Any Redwolves/Wolves option has my clear cut preference, and I think pleasing a vast majority of the fan base would be smart marketing choice, so there are reasons to be hopeful IMO. Redwolves has an edge as it comes to connecting to the past, (ie keeping HTTR and the fight song, and simply having part of the former name in the new one), and Redwolves are actually originally from the area (ok not only from DC, but which animal comes from only one city ?). Wolves has an edge as it's more simple, and some people hate the former but are ok with the later. Wolves of Washington just sounds good, the W stands for both. Good with both. |

We have given up enough to the trolls. If the trolls start hollering about Redwolves, get an official out to the mikes- someone NOT named Snyder- and politely, but firmly tell them they are being ridiculous. Post a few pictures of an actual red wolf to make the point. Then declare case closed and move on. We have already capitulated to mass hysteria. It is long past time to cease being the court jesters and run a football team. |

What is wrong with it being related to the old name? We were the Redskins for a long, long time and in 2 different cities. We were also briefly the Braves. We have a longer history than most teams. One would think it reasonable that we cannot sever everything related to that history. We have jettisoned the links to Native Americans. The mob got what they wanted, but that's it. Using "Red" is just phonetics. Nothing objectionable about that. |

What I'm saying is the organization is going through this rename and after two years they aren't going anywhere near a name that can remotely cause the chance of more accusations which could create the potential for having to do another name change. WFT doesn't want to look like a bigger bunch of buffoons than they already are. The colors are the link because if they really wanted to totally sever old ties they change to red, white, blue and call themselves the Americans or something like that. Even WFT is smart enough to know that would be too much for the fans that are left to swallow. |

The Miami Redskins became the Redhawks while the St Johns Redmen became the Red Storm, so there is precedent. |
Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
After Cleveland's Guardians fiasco (and the blow back has been huge) it makes me wonder if the Redskins will be a little hesitant to pick a name at this point. I think it strengthens the argument to stick with WFT. If they do go with another name it will only be a small minority that likes it and everyone else whose choice wasn't picked will start shooting holes in the new name (Which is what is happening in Cleveland right now).

I don't see much in the way of the blowback you are talking about. And Washington will receive a ton of blowback if after tons of talk about fan submissions, posting polls, and linking to the past without Native American imagery, they leave the name as WFT. That (hopefully) just is not happening. Regardless once the name is announced people, including me, will just have to accept it and move on. I like Rivera and Wright being at the head of the change, I just have a level of trust with them that I haven't had since Gibbs, and it is probably stronger than that, because the two seem to have a real strong hold on where they want this team to get to, and what it takes to make that happen - both on the field and off. |

To me that's as close as 100% out an option can be. As you said, we will all accept the new name at some point, and the more time they take, the more even those not liking the new one will go "erf, at least we finally have a name", and I think they know that. As you said, we will all accept the new name at some point, ......... (a.
Well we know that isn't exactly true. The franchise lost a chunk (probably a substantial chunk) of their fan base when they retired the Redskins. No matter what they do with the new name they will lose some more. That will come into their calculations as well. The assumption at this point is WFT will do the least amount of immediate damage and they will have to balance that against what name they think has the most potential to regrow their diminished fan base. |

Again, could be wrong, but I strongly disagree with that. Do you picture how stupid and lame they'd look if they kept the temporary name found in 2 weeks after 2 years+ of talking up their great rebranding process and how they value the trillions of fans input they bragged about receiving ? Plus they talked many times about wanting to pick a long lasting name. How cheap will it look in 60+years : "wait, why did they stick with the no-name-name that was supposed to be temporary again ? -well some people were pissed about the name changed and they were scared to piss some more by picking a new name...". |

My personal desire is the new name retains continuity- a subtle link to our history. Something like Redwolves accomplishes that with ease and has no potential for any controversy. But I would rather retain WFT (with an old fashioned block W please) than something lame like Generals. A brand new team with the same disagreeable owner is not an appealing option. |

Hate the name, it almost looks like they just tried to keep as man letters from "Indians" as possible. Guardians. Spiders had historical significance and would have been a better choice. The "Guardians" fonts even look like they're from 1980s Indians uniforms. I have a significant amount of Cherokee; just a few generations back was a pure Cherokee woman, my great grandmother. I have some say in this...and neither Redskins or ESPECIALLY NOT Indians are offensive...I took pride in having my favorite football team honor my heritage. Last year, I bought a "LONG LIVE CHEIF WAHOO" t-shirt in protest when the liberals canceled him. :D The Guardians logo is atrocious. A local legion team that feels ripped off challenged the Cleveland team to a game, winner keeps their logo. :D https://twitter.com/gsoredwings/status/1418649260493578243 |

Well look at the logo. It's basically a 1950s gas station sign in terms of design quality. Might work for a Detroit throwback, but not a rebrand. I concede your first point. Still think the ratio of fans leaving over the crap football and our franchise's reputation being in the shitter is probably 90% vs. the fans who left because of the name change. Even here - how many fans do we have who publicly declared the name change was the last straw and they were out? Just for sample size. We got 1 guy here who says he might leave for continuity purposes. |
