I like the signing as well. Didn't he play guard his first year in Seattle?

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3

I mean they're saying right now that he's depth for the T positions. But, and I guess it's a problem we've long wished we had, we've now got three starting quality Ts but only two can start.

So it's one of three things 1.) he actually will be depth 2.) Someone (TW or Jammal) is maybe struggling with an injury or 3.) They slide Locklear in at LG and make Kory L. your primary interior reserve lineman. If Locklear can play inside, I'd love to see #3.

Regardless, now with Trent Williams, Jammal Brown, Chester, Locklear (plus Kory L. and the later draft guys we've gone after) you really can't say we've ignored the offensive line these past two years.
Also heard he was drafted as a G, so he could backup Litch at LG. IMO I don't buy he's just a "depth" guy. He was rated one of the Top Plass Blockers in the league last year. 2010 Pass Blocking Efficiency: Tackles | ProFootballFocus.com And according to this Seattle's O-Line had only a 28.29% of allowing pressure

I wouldn't read into this, but Locklear was ranked 7th for FA OT's
Ranking the Free Agents: Offensive Tackles | ProFootballFocus.com

RT Competition w/ J. Brown?
Definetely not competition with Brown. I know Brown was hurt last year but with Jammal you're talking about a guy that was rated among the 5 best tackles in the league as recently as 2008. And all the film I've seen on him says the talk of him coming back to form near the end of last year are true.

Not to mention Brown got the big contract. Locklear is quality depth. Still in looking at that list of backups I'm a little uneasy about the group as a whole. Hopefully someone will emerge during the preseason among Cook, Capers, and Smith.

This is why I was asking about Blalock. If we had signed him, we could have used Chester (or Kory L) for depth and been good to go on the inside.

It still is nice to know that if a tackle goes down, we have a quality replacement. And if Locklear can play guard, as speculated above, that is icing on the cake.

I have no faith in Hicks, who from reports is having an uneven camp. I will have faith in Lichtensteiger when I have better reason for such faith.

Read a report recently (can't remember exactly where) that Lichtensteiger was strugling slightly with his pass blocking. If there is a change at all it could come at LG. Heard any details on Locklear's contract? May give a clue as to what role he'll play.

I like the signing. Competition is always a plus. But I just don't get the concern or worry about the Center position everyone else is having? Rahbach is gone. Concern should be over. Montgomery filled in admirably when Rahbach went down in the Titans game. If you guys are worried just go back and watch that game again. The OL was a major sieve with Rahbach playing Center. Now they plan on using Montgomery or Lichtensteiger.

But if Locklear plays Center then all the better for if one of the other guys goes down.

I love the Locklear signing.
However it seems we keep getting these 70% guys instead of 85% guys.
Mehhhh....I'm an old Hog fan, bigtime.
I'd sell the farm for top OL talent.

Obviously you are not familiar with the theory of diminishing returns :D
The law of diminishing returns (also law of diminishing marginal returns or law of increasing relative cost) states that in all productive processes, adding more of one factor of production, while holding all others constant, will at some point yield lower per-unit returns.[2] The law of diminishing returns does not imply that adding more of a factor will decrease the total production, a condition known as negative returns, though in fact this is common.
SECOND TEAM OFFENSE

RB: Roy Helu (see above)
WR: Anthony Armstrong
WR: Leonard Hankerson
WR: Aldrick Robinson (will be Malcolm Kelly when healthy)
TE: Logan Paulsen

LG: Willie Smith
C: Erik Cook
RG: Artis Hicks

That depth chart can't be completely accurate. They don't have Fred Davis or Reed Doughty listed. Has Horton starting at Safety(even if LL is injured)?...lol

It's not a depth chart. It's a list of the Most common groupings of first and second team offenses as observed in practices.

Yeah, basically. Just the groups of players that are taking the field and taking reps in 11 on 11.

With Heyer having departed to Oakland and our young depth not exactly proving they're ready, a veteran like Locklear is probably a need. He's played a little guard, but most importantly, he can back-up the tackle position where both Williams and Brown were slowed by injury last year. His versatility will be tested.

I think it is. The Post's guy says that we are still interested in him. Josh Wilson is recruiting him like crazy, because they're friends. Lofa can't go back to seattle. Chicago wants him, but he can't play middle there, and he wants some money. I say he could still sign here. If not, he could go to NYG or Philly.

Yeah whoever was saying that has no say in deciding the roster. Henson's value was going to be as a special teams player. Unfortunately, being on the PUP list just didn't help him.

Personally, I think they cut him too soon for the team's sake yet not too soon for his sake.

Still don't know what's happening with Chris Wilson
The Redskins quietly have been bringing in veteran players during the bargain-basement portion of the free-agent period.

The newest addition is linebacker Keyaron Fox, according to Chris Russell of ESPN 980.

Fox, a seven-year veteran, spent four seasons with the Chiefs before playing for the Steelers over the last three. Fox served as special-teams captain in 2009 and 2010.

In 2009, Fox returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown in a game against Brett Favre and the then 6-0 Vikings.
