Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
I hope that's not it. I mentioned earlier about the age of our LBs and injuries. Both Rocky (knee) and Marcus (knee, elbow) went under the knife in the offseason. Lemar Marshall turns 31 this year and is built more like safety than a LB, especially a MLB. Marcus turns 30 this year and Fletcher turns 32. Aside from these guys we have pretty much nobody. Khary Campbell is a special teams guy, and that's it really. Maybe that's what this move is about.
I see what you're saying about the linebackers, but the D-line is in much worse shape, and they never seem to do anything about it. Aside from the new depth guys they drafted, Golston and Montgomery, the front office seems content with slapping older retreads from other teams together for the front four. I agree that in the next year or so, the linebacking corps will have to be built back up again with youth, but it just seems like every other position gets that type of attention while the defensive line doesn't. |
Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Or is this a move geared toward 2008? Will they not keep Marcus (that would suck), will they Fletch go (why sign him in the first place)?
On the one hand you say, heck if we can get Briggs you get him and then you worry about playing time for everyone. On the other hand, you say this could do more damage than good |

Wasn't Rocky drafted more or less as the replacement for Lavar Arrington? |

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
If Gibbs and co. decieded to take the word of a position coach rather than evaluate the first pick we had last draft, they should have thier heads examined. The fact that no one would be able to evaluate him other than Lindsey would be a joke.
I agree, but Lindsey had the power to keep Lavar off the field, and Gibbs self proclaimed knowledge of defense is to tell them to "get 'em". I'm sure Lindsey had input, maybe enough to say he could make one guy excel in the system but not another. I just seems wierd that of all the coaches he took the fall when the d-line and DBs were also awful. It wasn't just his gruff attitude. |
Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
This purposed deal tells me a couple of things :
1) Washington doesn't think that anyone at the 6 spot is able to come in and help right away. 2) They also much feel that the Linebacking play last year was as much to blame as the DL or the secondary. With this in mind I really don't think this deal is as bad as I orginally thought that it was, I still would rather them wait until draft day and see if anyone makes them an offer they can't refuse - kinda like the Ricky Williams deal from a couple of years back. If that offer doesn't come up and the FO doesn't think that the players at 6 will come in right away and help the team then go for it. This trade would allow them to get possible 2 starters for the price of one. |
Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Why did the Wizards announcer just say they would talk about the Briggs trade (I think he actually said "he's coming to Washington") after the game?
Anyone else hear this? |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he said that. But did you hear the Sportsnite commercial after the game? They didn't mention it again. I'm hoping Buckhantz just misspoke. |

A few teams would definitely make a move- Minnesota and Miami at the very least. We could gain a 2nd and/or 3rd rounder by swapping with either one of those teams and still have a good pick (7 or 9) to trade down to the Bears. Remember, if the Bears don't move Briggs he will likely sit out 10 games, and other teams around the league don't seem too interested in him. WE HAVE THE LEVERAGE HERE!! I just hope we don't blow our wad on a bad deal that could have been better with a little patience. If it somehow goes down the way I just laid out, we could have Briggs, the Bears 31st pick, and a 2nd rounder. I would take that. But I admit it's a big IF. |

I think Buck may have misspoken.. The graphic could have been wrong.

Ok, how about that Caron Butler shot to end the 3rd?!?!?! I actually only watched the last few minutes of the game but thank God I saw a replay of that thing. It wasn't quite as sick as Rasheed's from the other day, but it was nice nonetheless. |

I know the local channels are talking about the deal as fact, but quite a bit of legitimate sportswriters think this is happening. From all I have heard is that the REDSKINS were the ones that offered the Bears this deal, not vise-versa. If that is true then atleast we can see that Skins want this trade. I would not be surprised if the deal is being worked on and completed soon. That doesn't mean I approve of it, but it could very easily happen. |
