Is it normal for players to get hit up for buying things for other players, like the $15,000 Martin gave for the Vegas trip he didn't go on?
Yes, it is normal for older vets to make younger players pay for various things. The part where Martin was not included on the trip might be abnormal.

The big line crosser for me in the report is the racial stuff by Incognito. That should be off limits all the time. But somehow others in the locker room accepted it as normal, that is too much imo. I dont see how just Martin was the only one offended.

According to the Dolphins players going on the trip, Martin was supposed to go but backed out at the last minute. The 15k was to pay for the already paid for plane tickets and hotel room that Martin was supposed to be using. I would imagine that NFL players werent going to stay at a local Holiday Inn, but would get suites at the Casino that can run into the thousands of dollars per night. The other players would have had to pay for Martins share if Martin didnt pay himself.

If what they are saying is true, then this isnt like the rookie dinners that happen on pretty much every team.

It's easy to not be offended if you don't want to be. Martin was probably more susceptible, though, because he was bullied in middle school; and Incognito's bullying brought back the depression he had back then.

Also, NFL players probably have thicker skin than the rest of the population, because they're in this environment from the time they start playing high school football.

Now that we know the true story, I would have no reservations about signing Martin. He would be a huge upgrade over Polumbus.

The Dolphins locker room appears to be unique only in its stupidity, but this is not something we weren't aware of back in October.

"Every year, as tradition, the offensive line goes on a big Vegas trip. Everything is paid for in advance, from hotels to a private jet to show tickets. Martin originally verbally committed to the trip, then later backed out after everything was booked. Now, if you can’t go because of an emergency then it’s okay, but to say you’re going and then decide you don’t want to spend the money later? Everything was paid for, and then when it was time to pay up he didn’t want to go anymore. You don’t do that to your brothers. The veterans who paid for it, including Incognito and others, asked for Martin’s share, and he gave it to them. End of story."

This. Never really cared for Incognito, but I don't want Martin on my team either. We don't need another scenario like that on our team.

Apparently this guy knows nothing. Look at this dumbass article. He say we need bigger lineman, Adam Gettis is going to be our new RT. This guy apparently writes articles by seat of his pants.
» OT Tyler Polumbus: Polumbus has been a turnstile at right tackle, and is perhaps the weakest link on the team. The Redskins like 2012 fifth-round pick Adam Gettis, and he could slide into Polumbus' spot if they don't find someone in free agency.

I think it's obvious we need bigger linemen. That's one of the reasons I've been advocating drafting Cyril Richardson.

Edit: My bad. I see what you're saying now.

A great example of why many articles/columns from national writers are awful. It's almost like they look at the roster and randomly plug in names wherever they have blank space.

Not a bad read, IMO if we get constant pressure secondary looks so much better.
