Agree, need an offensive minded coach to help develop Haskins. McLaurin looked like a solid #1 WR right out of the box, and Guice had a break out game that makes the future look bright for him. Defense is improving in spite of Manusky.
Just need the QB position to come along and we could be on our way to getting the first double digit win season in a long time.
We don't need an offensive minded head coach to develop Haskins. It really doesn't matter if the HC has an offensive or defensive background. In either case, Haskins development would primarily fall to the offensive coordinator, QB coach, and a good dose of Alex Smith. |

Tell that to Joe Montana and Steve Young who were developed by Bill Walsh and are both in the Hall of Fame. |

Yeah but if you look around the league now a days, the young good QBs all have offensive minded HCs. Mahomes Watson Murray Goff Dak List goes on. |

The best QB of all time is coached by a defensive coach.

So... throughout the entire 100 year history of the NFL, you cite two examples of successful QBs who were coached by an offensively minded coach. How, exactly, does this prove that a QB can only succeed if the head coach is offensively minded? |

Too often a HC who knows one side of the ball ends up neglecting that side as the full reality of head coaching responsibilitiws kick in. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Mahomes Watson Murray Goff Dak List goes on.
First, why is Jared Goff on this list? He's been awful this year. Second, the two best young QBs in this league, along with the greatest QB of all time, have defensively minded head coaches. Russell Wilson Lamar Jackson Tom Brady What is the point? That it does not matter if the head coach is offensive or defensively minded. The head coach is overseeing the entire team: coaching staff and players. He is not spending time developing a QB. He has a coaching staff to do that. What is important about a head coach is not whether his background is offense or defense. Its that he's smart, a good leader, and assembles a staff that can develop players at all positions on the roster - including QB. |

Also Lamar Jackson is not a great QB , he's a great athlete that by this time next year I'll be surprised if he's tearing up the league like he is now. You also cant count Brady, the dude is the goat. |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
I'd like Rivera as our D coordinator, if we could land him. As far as our head coach, I'd prefer a defensive minded coach. Honestly, I don't think it's going to matter too much if Bruce is still around next year.

I'm really more worried about finding a coach that can win a title by working in cohesion with the front office to build a team worthy. The good coaches in this league adapt to the players they have, they get rid of players playing for selfish reasons (i.e. money or fame) and they bring in guys devoted to team goals. Teams that win titles do so when players start putting team success ahead of personal success. The right coach will be able to bring in the right staff that will develop Haskins en route to developing an entire team that can compete for a title. |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
The HC 's job is to run the team, set the culture of the team, lead the team, make sure he has good assistants, not develop the QB. Having a bad staff can break the HC.
There are plenty of examples of great QB's being on teams w/ defensive coaches. I want the best guy for the job, regardless of what side of the ball he works on. Haskins can still develop with a defensive coach. |

I think Steve Young would tell you that a huge part of his success was because of Mike Holmgren. Young did not become a full time starter until after Walsh had left. |

There has to be a very low chance BA comes back right?? I mean Dan has to see this issue

One would hope right? But what if we squeak out say two more wins and finish 5-11. God forbid if one of the teams we beat are the Packers. I'm sure Bruce's excuses would consist of the following: 1. Jay was the head coach and didn't want to start Haskins and was 0-5 before being fired. Basically blaming 5 losses on a coach that they fired. 2. We had an interim head coach with a rookie QB that went 5-6, just under .500. 3. The best LT in football held out, OL cohesion, etc. 4. [insert other excuses here] With the news a while back regarding Bezo potentially helping Dan get a new stadium, one would hope that is true and that he doesn't need Bruce around to get that done any longer. Either way, until Dan gets out of the way himself, is it really going to matter who he replaces Bruce with? And I'm not saying not to fire him, he should have already been fired a while ago. |
