Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
I listened to that. He did bring up some good points. My issue is sure he's still playing well now. But I assume the team is looking at it from the back end of his deal. In year 3 and 4, or even next year, 2026, what will his production be then? Chances are it's going to dip. So they can be stuck paying him a truck load of money when he's got #2 or even #3 wr production. Terry has to realize that's just how the NFL works.
I disagree on the dip in physical ability and football sense (production). Even if there is one? I picture it slight, not massive to be saying he didnt deserve the $. I just cant see it yet theres zero evidence thus far. |
Trey Amos signed. I bet Terry signs soon.
Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk
Famous Amos is going to be the corniest, and also awesome, knickname for that stud. |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Would you give Connerly or Amos back for an edge rusher in those spots?
Because outside of that, Von Miller (or a similar veteran) is about the best they were going to be able to do. He will probably only play 15-20 snaps per game on 3rd downs. Not jacked up for the signing or anything, but I like it. 2024 PFF: Overall Grade: 82.4 15th/211 Edge Rushers 32 pressures 6 sacks He was only 91st in pass-rush snaps, but was 42nd in sacks (ESPN has him at 50th in total sacks). That's not bad production imo. Only Luvu had more sacks for us last year (outside of Fowler). No one else was in the top 50. https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/von-miller/6154#seasonStatsWidget https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/view/defense/table/defensive/sort/sacks/dir/desc Note - Fowler only had a grade of 62.1 that was 100 out of 211. He also had 341 pass-rush snaps compared to 209 for Miller.
Nope. I felt like Peters should have made an effort to re-sign Fowler, but I guess they felt like he wasn't worth it. Miller is 36 years old. Ok the stats don't look bad, so I guess it's worth a shot. I felt the same way about Dyami too. Should have re-signed him. Overall, I just feel like this team is really old. Maybe the oldest in the league. You know what happens when you have too many old guys. You're going to have injuries and a slip in play. But we got #5. I feel like he is going to have to put on the cape and outscore a lot of teams. |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Of course we have a really old roster -- inevitable when Rivera's draft picks were so horrible. I mean, remarkably bad. In just the first round, he picked Chase Young (2020), Jamin Davis (2021), Jahan Dotson (2022), and Emmanuel Forbes (2023) -- who knows if Davis, Dotson or Forbes will be on a team this year -- like any team? I forgive him the Young pick -- we all thought that would work out. But, man, the others...
As far as Dyami and Fowler, I don't feel we lost too much there. Dyami really only came on in the last few games of the season, and had he shown potential like that a year (or two or three) earlier, he'd still be on the team. More excited about our rookie, Lane. And Fowler was a liability against the run and his sack #s trailed off as the season went on. And it wasn't like our D line was dominant with him. The new vets will be more stout against the run and Miller will be a situational rusher. Overall, I think the line will be better for that. Would I like a younger and more dynamic rusher? Sure. But let's not forget, AP inherited a team with more holes than players, and we got to the NFC Championship in year 1. I would not have expected a turnaround much before year 3. And I think he will build something special that will last with younger guys, but we'll need to plug in some vets to bridge to that team. And as to that, so far his track record has been very, very good. |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
One guy I want to see take that next step is Jordan Magee. We need someone at ML that can run sideline to sideline.

Might not be as washed up as some of you think…
Wow this is awesome, and this is with the legal distraction also and missing 4 games. Dude has always been a great athlete. He ran a 4.49 40 at the draft which is quite impressive for his size. This is definitely one of Peters' more intriguing moves. |

Definitely looking forward to seeing him. We need more athleticism on defense. |

Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
Yes, we have the oldest average age starting roster. But we also have a core of quality young players and a coaching staff capable of getting the most out of the roster. It is looking like Allen's OTHG reborn, but AP has had 2 good drafts at this point. If he can sort the Scary contract out, we should have a very competitive roster this year, possibly 2nd or 3rd best in the NFC.
Like last year, these guys are all 1 or 2 year rentals while we draft and develop rookies behind them. AP (as do we) knows we have to be competitive to leverage Daniels cheap contract. When it gets to his option year, I believe we'll see a hard pivot to a draft focused roster. We're probably going to be the KC of the NFC, with great years and good years instead of bad and awful ones. It's funny how after so many terrible years under Snyder, some are (hyper?) critical of the roster the season after we reached the NFCC... |
Re: Commanders 2025 Offseason Thread
I agree that the development of Magee is critical, I'll add Johnny Newton as well. These 2 young guys are really important if we are ever going to develop a good defense. Lattimore returning to form is another key.

Magee is supposed to be a straight beast when healthy. Very physical, a** kicking lb. Newton should be very good also who is athletic for his size. Kid was dominant in the Big 10. No clue on how Lattimore is going to look this year. Not impressed last year but willing to see what he has now. All his reviews were stellar prior to the acquisition.

Good read on Newton below (scroll down):
