Re: Roster Cuts
I'm surprised David Terrell was released. I'd be interested in Terrell for the fact he played with Patten and I've got some friends from the Boston area that love the guy.

Re: Roster Cuts
I'm really suprised by the cuts of Wilds and Mccune and on a smaller level Warner. Sure Wilds would have been ranked 4th on the depth chart but thankfully that would have meant no more Ade. Mccune was pretty quiet this summer which can be both a good and a bad thing for a rookie. Hopefully these three and Farris stick with the practice squad.

Re: Roster Cuts
No surprises here in my opinion! I'm also glad to see Groom getting the punting job. I think it came down to his holding for Hall on that tying field goal at the end of regulation that won the job for him.
Yes, I'm happy with Cartwright and Nemo making the team. They're showing alot of patience by keeping Taylor Jacobs. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Personally, I'm happy for the most part with the decisions made by the coaches. Like many of you, I'm surprised we kept both Raymer and Friedman. You'd think Wilson would've been a better option, especially to back up Jansen (although Ray Brown can do that too). I'm not sure Friedman has done much to stay with the team, but perhaps he's seen as the best backup option to Dockery. Raymer will be a valuable backup for his experience.
I'm also surprised we kept both Killings and Boschetti. I would've thought Warner would've made the team ahead of one of them, and I also wished we could've kept Aki Jones. Despite Jacobs' injuries and Antonio Brown's drops, I'm not surprised that they're both with the team. If Jacobs returns, he will undoubtedly beat out Thrash and Brown for the 3rd spot, and he could eventually challenge for a starting position. Farris deserves to make the practice squad. Dyson might also make the PS, although his best quality (veteran leadership) is something we already have in Patten and Thrash. Parson had some nice kick returns, but they were due mostly to bad tackling; he probably won't be back. Gotta feel bad for him. |

I'm pretty sure he's not eligible actually |
Re: Roster Cuts
Everybody's griping that Jimoh wasn't cut. WHY??? Wilds will definitely be on the practice squad, and if we face any teams who regularly employ 4 wideouts we can activate him and put Omar Stoutmire on the PS.
Jimoh's main strength is special teams, and he's also a team player and character guy. I'm not sure why people are so concerned. Here's my wish list for the practice squad: 1. Ron Warner (Nic Clemons beat him out, but he's still a great backup) 2. Garnell Wilds (a very solid guy overall; could be a #3 corner on some teams) 3. Jimmy Farris (the guy deserves a spot after his hussle and excellent preseason; we also need depth with brittle guys like Jacobs and Moss as well as older players like Thrash and Patten) 4. Aki Jones (his effort impressed me; I hope he continues to develop) 5. Rufus Brown (with recent injuries to Harris and Rogers, we might need him later) 6. Mark Wilson (could be important to have around if we have another OL injury) 7. Robert McCune (he didn't impress me, but he still has potential; it might give him the time and motivation to show his potential) 8. This one is a toss-up between two guys: Robert Johnson and Jared Newberry (Johnson could provide some depth at H-B/TE, especially with White hurt; Newberry probably didn't do well enough to stay, but maybe like McCune he needs time to show his potential) Alright, those are my picks. I expect some flack from somebody about 'em. Have fun picking it apart. :) P. S. I didn't know Dyson wasn't eligible for the PS. Thanks for letting me know Tafkas. |
Re: Roster Cuts
What are the rules for practice squad eligibility?
Wonder if Kesey or Killings will really make it--we still will probably pick up a vet cut from another team... |
Re: Roster Cuts
Here's the deal on practice squad eligiblity:
To be eligible for the practice squad, a player must not have an accrued season towards free agency. If a player does have an accrued season, he still is eligible for the practice squad if he was not on the active or inactive list for more than nine regular season games. The NFL expanded the size of each team's practice squad to eight players from five beginning in 2004.
|
Re: Roster Cuts
I love this website and visit every day and just signed up to post notes. I think that we should have kept both Ade and Wilds, I am not sure why he was denied a roster spot, having shut down Moss last year. Wilson is no big loss. McCune has all the physical tools, I wrote a letter to Blanche and told him to covert him to DE, I guess they weren't interested in his 4.4 speed and 550 pound bench press..... He had better land on the practice squad. Groom is way better than Mohr. Keasey is a Neal Olkawitz type player and Khary played well on Thursday. My biggest worries remain the CB situation and Ramsey's picks. Also, Brunell looks like a total bad ass this year. Taylor Jacobs will get hurt again, but Farris is more practice squad material. Dyson is not a big loss, nor are Aki Jones. Ron Warner was pretty good last year, I still like his practice squad potential. Dallas has to be the most overrated team this preseason, everyone thinks Bledsoe will lead them to the playoffs, but he can't run, so we'll knock his block off week 2 down in TX. Hail Skins!

Re: Roster Cuts
When did Terrell play with Patten? Wasn't he in Chicago last year when Patten was in New England and then we signed patten in the spring? Terrell hasn't done anything since UMichigan, where he was no Desmond Howard. Michigan constantly puts out overrated WRs (we'll see on Braylon Edwards).... Just checking my own memories, send me a line

Re: Roster Cuts
Welcome, SanFranSkinsFan!
Not sure about Terrell. My guess with McCune is that they hope no one grabs him, and they practice squad him for a year. |
Re: Roster Cuts
Wilson and Wilds are the 2 biggest surprises for me, 6 months ago Wilson was ahead of Molinaro now look, Molinaro was abused the other night at RT. OT, he's better suited for guard. I said in another thread that Keasey is getting my vote for the feel good player of the year for us, I saw him early on and this kid is a player, I do disagree with the olkiewitz comparison earlier in the thread though, he's more athletic and much faster than Olkiewitz was and is as smart as they come on the field, probably not as strong though, he will more than make up for the McCune pick, and as I suspected McCune is a workout wonder who is stiff with no real football instincts.
Warner I liked but Clemons outplayed him, and has shown a gradual progression in his game, I think the best is yet to come from Clemons down the road. Surprised not see Campbells name on that list though. :laughing2 In all seriousness I am Actually starting to warm up to the guy, I do like what I have seen so far. :biggthump I am glad we went with Groom, I figured it would happen when I heard Joey T. point out that Groom held for the game tying field goal against the Ravens. |

Terrell was a 1st rounder out of Michagan that played for Chicago. The Bears cut him this offseason and the Pats signed him immediatly there after. Patten was signed by the Redskins this offseason. So I guess they played backgammon in the airport lounge. Pats cut him cause they had a glutten of good recievers. Maybe the Eagles should sign him since they need another head case receiver.

The Bears couldn't wait to be rid of him last year... and their WR situation is miserable. Terrell is Terrible. |

I was thinking the same thing. |

I bet Farris and Dyson will make the practice squad.

Dyson isn't eligible for the PS.
Definitely nice to see Rock and Nemo still with us. Rock looked pretty tough to stop on a lot of those screens. Question though, would one of them have been cut if Manny White hadn't gotten hurt? Or would they have cut White or Sellers?
white would go on PS or koz would have been cut... sellers was never part of the discussion i don't believe. |
Re: Roster Cuts
guys, here's the PS rules: if you've been in the league for 2 years (being on any team's roster or PS for 9 games = 1 year) then you can't go on PS, so please stop saying we can shove 10-13 year veterans in there ;)
I think warner was let go because we got two good pass rushing LBs (clemons and lavar)... i thought he was better than evans last year though... oh well, the difference isn't that big i guess. |
Re: Roster Cuts
wow, i didn't realize warner is an 8 year pro and 30 now!! and he's had 17 total tackles...
anyways, here's last year stat lines on warner and evans: Warner (30years old) - 14games 12 tackles (9 solo) 3.5 sacks, 1 int for 39yards Evans (26years old) - 12games 26 tackles (17 solo) 2.5 sacks, 1 pass deflected guess the better tackler won... |

Re: Roster Cuts
Would anyone know if D. Evans, Nick and Chris Clemons (brothers) played at the same time at Georgia? They've all been in the league around the same time.
Three former Bulldogs make the roster, four if you include Daniels but he's older. |
