Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
That would be saying a lot. Or you don't remember Spurrier and Zorn.
The Zorn HC pick would rival it, but the Spurrier hire was worth a shot. Alot of teams were lined up to hire Spurrier. But when you make a HC hire to move forward, but hold on to the DC from the past regime who didnt do a f*cking thing but fail could waste Jay Gruden years here. Big mistake |

Did you have to bring them up? |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
If we are to stick to the 3-4 we should have Wade Philips as DC instead.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I'm ok with it, not excited, not disappointed. He's coming in with his eyes wide open with his relationships already in the building and I'd think that if there were serious concerns about Robert being coachable or his relationship with Snyder, they would have warned him off. Also the promotion of Sean McVay to OC means those two have a good relationship and a foundation to work from.
Bottom line, the roster has to improve in key spots and the noise/drama needs to stop in order for this to be successful. |
I'll say this about Haz. At various times our D looked absolutely outclassed and incapable of doing anything. That's reflective of the talent more than anything. Knowing that and considering at times they also looked almost good for stretches perhaps maybe Haz did a better job than we think given the talent level, Note: this is my eternal optimism shining through I am pretty sure.
Just tell me who called the prevent defense on 4th down and goal against Dallas. If Shanny overruled Haz, then OK, I might be judging Haz too harshly. But if Haz called it, then he needs to get the **** out of town - now! |
For everyone that's down on Dalton, he actually had some monster games this year. He had 33 td's, his turnovers were obviously up but let's not act like Dalton is a garbage QB. He's made the playoffs every year and his numbers got better every year. To me that's a positive. Whether Gruden prefers Griff's style over a Cousins type? ...we'll see. But I would also think that Gruden isn't going to be loyal to either guy.
Dalton is not garbage but he is average. I don't think that Dalton is good enough to ever take the Bengals to the SB. |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Forget the Jetskins. We have become the BucsTuskers, with Allen, Gruden, Haslett, and McVay all having recent ties to Tampa and/or Florida Tuskers.
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Awesome, more of the great Haslett defense. Now I'm really excited.
|
I don't mind Haz staying. He was forced into running the 34 here and had Shanny looking over his shoulder and even making play calls. Safe to say he wasn't given a true shot to run the D.
I really like McVay getting bumped up. |
I just don't get the Haslett deal

All of them are more politically correct nicknames than our current one. |

I think it would be in our best interest to go back to the 4-3, and if they think haslett can be the guy to build that I'd be willing to give it a shot |

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
I hope we do a hybrid defense that changes between 4-3 and 3-4 but its base scheme is a tampa-2
|

Yeah secondary especially was always a joke under Shanny. Talent is key. |

Hopefully that's the idea behind keeping Haslett - same DC but different scheme. |
Lol a month ago 99% of people wanted JH fired, now it was shannys fault. Smh love the blindness folks. Dude has never been a good DC for the redskins. He's been here 4 years now and its sos every yr. O well hope this is a good hire but I get the feeling it was a buddy helping a buddy and it was the plan all along.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Interesting tidbit:
David Elfin @davidelfin 4m A year ago today, @RGIII was going under the knife. Today he gets a new coach. I think personnel choices will be crucial to the defense regardless of who's DC. We need a starting caliber ILB and a consistent FS. I would love to see us go back to the 4-3. |
I just don't get the Haslett deal
I don't either. It's kind of reminding me of the Zorn hire, where the assistants were pretty much picked for the HC. I really hope that Gruden makes the decision, or holds the power of who he wants on his staff. |

I am with you. I can't understand why we kept Haz. But hopefully there is a better explanation than "It was Shanahan's fault." |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Jay Gruden is clearly a Bruce Allen hire.
Someone mentioned Haslett as Asst. HC. and Raheem as DC. I'd have no problem with that. To have Haslett serve as a mentor and advisor to the young HC makes a lot of sense to me. I hope that Gruden has a proper appreciation of the importance of Special Teams. We need immediate improvement in that area. |

agree. I personally dont care if we go 4-3 or 3-4, rather see someone else run it even if its Morris. I think the Haz carry over has Danny hands all over it, dont like it. |

I think the big difference is that Zorn was completely overmatched in any role above position coach. Also, those were Cerrato/Snyder decisions independent of the HC search. Gruden has relationships with all of these guys already so the 'conversations' may have been to hold these guys around until after the process so he could decide if he wanted them around as well. |

So true. Going 3-13 was 100% on Shanahan. lol. |

Here in SF on the radio they mentioned Hue Jackson was going to be the OC, just saying.
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Haslett is staying? Are you kidding me...... This reeks of Danny trying to save a buck and throwing him onto Gruden
|
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Don't forget that Haz was Gruden's boss with the Tuskers. The choice to retain Haz may have more to do with JG than with Snyder.

Lol! Nice. Joe Theisman was a partial team owner of the Tuskers and Doug Williams was the Tuskers General Manager. Don't forget the Shottenheimer (Marty and Kurt) angle with the Tuskers/Destroyers. Oh yeah, Kurt Gouveia was the linebackers coach and Mike stock the special Teams coach. There's probably 100 other people that have Tusker - Redskins connections in the past 4 years... |

C'mon, man! When did Danny ever worry about spending a few bucks on a coaching staff? He'll pay for the right people. |
Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins
Rumblings on Twitter that we're switching to the 4-3. I like this (if true). Cofield was a very good 4-3 DT in NY. I hope Riley is up to the task of being the MLB. Maybe Orakpo and Kerrigan as DEs?
|

I think Rak is a better DE , more like a Mathis was for Indy or is

I dont see Riley as a MLB in a 4-3. I see him and Kerrigan as Outside LBs. Orakpo and Bowen as the DEs. Coefield and possible Jenkins as the DT. I think we need to bring in 4-3 MLB and get a DT immediately. |
