Did anybody......not understand Rog's message? YEEooow......Payton can't be around the facilities....team....coaches...no communication for a year? RuhSkins said it...Holy S... I saw that on the crawler and couldn't believe it. Never thought it would be that harsh. Maybe we want to take our 36m fine....make like tree....and get outta' here before RG really loses his cool..... |
Skins won't get punished. Two very different situations. Our GM didn't know about it at the time, Gibbs didn't know about it, Snyder didn't know about, and the league didn't find out about it and tell us to stop, only to have us subsequently lie to the league about putting an end to it. All of those things are true with the Saints.
Agreed, RG's message has been heard loud and clear. If you keep digging into the past where does it stop? Do you go all the way back to when GW was the DC for the Titans? Do the Bills get dragged in too? Doesn't make sense. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
What's more surprising is that Payton is going to keep his job. Also, he's losing a ton of coin over this as well.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Sean Payton's year-long suspension means lost salary for one year. Payton's out about $7 million. |

Agreed. It sounds like the next step is doling out the player punishments. |

Here's the thiing...the Saints did something very wrong. They broke rules and even ethics. We didn't. Their punishment was earned. Ours is a joke. |
they should dock us 3 1st round picks, our 2012, 2013, and our 2014 ;)
not 2012, we still have that one & it's gonna land us a franchise qb! This illustrates the power Goodell & the nfl have in these matters. If we press the issue of the cap $, you have to think we will end up paying something for GW's bounty system. Given the rumors & controversy that went around about GW when he was interviewing to be HC here, it would be a shock if he had any loyalty to the Danny. I would expect him to spill the beans about as much as they want. He'll protect Gibbs & his assistants though as much as he can. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
don't be so quick to think we dodged a bullet. Goodell said that when he considers Williams' eventual request for reinstatement, he'll consider how cooperative Williams is in future investigations. This can only mean the league is going to look into bounty systems at Williams' former teams. obviously, Shanahan and Allen cant be suspended as they weren't here, but draft pick penalties could be coming our way.
Perhaps well agree to allow the NFL to screw us over with the cap if they promise not to screw us over with bountygate.
Is a flaming bag of poo on Vinny Cerrato's doorstep acceptable punishment? I'd be down with that. |

Wow...just wow. I mean I guess message heard is all that anyone can say. I assume there will be appeals. And I assume they all go to the commissioner. Talk about a death sentence almost.

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Why do people think this is harsh? Sure a year long suspension is severe but for basically 'lack of institutional control' and then subsequently lying to the league about it. Under Roger 'The Hammer' Goodell, the punishment is just about what could be expected. Gregg Williams (2nd G is for GONE) may be done as an NFL coach for the time being. He's going to probably miss at least a season and a half. Don't know how he could get the same as Payton since he was running the bounty program.
Also, Goodell couldn't come back with a soft punishment after he's been drilling the players for the past 2 years. This was a severe, but just punishment. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Note to self: never lie to Roger Goodell. He goes ballistic.

Seems about right, and fits with the rumors of the key players getting the boot for a year or more. I'm kinda surprised that some are taken back by the decision. Sean Payton was reportedly only ready for a 4 game suspension? What was he thinking? |

People should have learned that back with Pacman and Vick. Both lied and both got the hammer. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Will the Rams be able to hire another D coordinator or do they need to fire Williams first? and if so do you think we are in danger of losing Raheem Morris for the job?
|
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Roger Goodell has lost his mind. These suspensions are too harsh. The cap penalties on the Cowboys and Redskins was too harsh. Under Goodell's watch the game is getting weaker and weaker. The defense is penalized heavily. What used to be a form tackle now is unnecessary roughness. You can't hit a quarterback. You can't hit a wide receiver coming across the middle. They might as well eliminate tackling and give the guys flags. Instead of the National Football League (NFL), it should be the National Flag Football League (NFFL). Williams should not have paid bounties to injure players but these penalties are going to cripple the Saints. What about the fans. Their team is going to suck. It hurts the Rams because they won't have a defensive coordinator. Goodell hasn't even decided how he is going penalize the players. The Saints might not have a team. What about Williams former teams. Are the Bills and Redskins going to be penalized. This reeks!

Also, Rams will likely just promote assistant coach Dave McGinnis to interim defensive coordinator |

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Killer.
I really think this is way too harsh since a lot of teams probably do this and hide it better. Goodell really likes to make these "I am the king" statements every chance he gets. Maybe this is to take attention away from the salary cap debacle that will end up being a black eye for the Commish. I can't believe Sean Peyton is gone...this alone will hurt the team dramatically and could finally send Brees out of town. He still has not signed his franchise tag, right?
I think the reason they are getting hit so hard is because they were warned and did not stop. If that's not the case then why didn't they hit them harder the 1st time. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
If I was DS I would be very careful on how he proceeds with the salary cap penalty.
Looks like Goodell has all the aces in his hand. |

Is There anyway that we get the saints 2nd picks as compensation should we win in arbitration but lose out on getting all the money back?

?????? You think we should get compensation for the Saints losing draft picks? Call me crazy but I highly doubt that. I think the best scenario is we don't end up paying the rest of the fine next year. We're not getting free draft picks, and if we are they won't be as high as the 2nd or 1st round. |
WOW is right!! . . . Deserved IMO . . . that's sends a pretty clear message that the NFL will not tolerate this type of behavior . . .
You really think that is deserved ?? You gotta be getting me man .. this is football ... 99% of the NFL players don't think this is deserved .. this is by far the most BS move the God-dell has ever done ... the fact that SpyGate didn't get the hoodie suspended and this blows a team away for a YEAR .. holy s**T man this is so over the top considering every single team does this is some way form or fashion ... I bet when GW was here and Area51 was laying down beatdowns you probably said, yeah you know what this is too much I hope they get the hammer laid down on them .. boo hoo on these hits .. give me a break dude ... football is heading down a real weird path if we keep putting skirts on these guys .. that's why tackling sucks and defenses get smoked .. I'm sorry but I love a good ass mammoth hit on a QB .. I feel bad for the Saints ... I also feel for the Skins/Boys with this Salary Cap BS .. the Shield is out of control with power. |

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
the picks just won't exist. Remember the year the Patriots lost their 1st rounder for the tapes. there was only 31 picks in round one.
