Re: Game Tape: Preseason Week 1 vs Steelers
I think I owe it to myself to replace Redskins Insider on my Chrome favorite bar with the Examiners coverage. Obviously the WaPo isn't what it use to be in regards to Skins coverage (Capitals Insider is still good though). Granted Skins ownership isn't exactly innocent but I'm still a football fan first and foremost.
Thanks for the compliments though but don't be afraid to give some constructive feedback. Particularly on the Grossman video. I mean granted different positions warrant different editing styles, like in the Carriker video I would cut the play sometimes even before it ended because the point of the whole video is to showcase Carriker and seeing a pass thrown incomplete downfield is a waste of time.
However on the Grossman video (and any QB video in particular) sometimes I feel like I could show less of the in depth replays and make them more bang bang (Clemens video is kind of like that because in the second half of preseason they could care less about breaking down a lot of the plays). I guess my question is are you guys liking the post play replays on the QB videos as well as the additional commentary or would you rather it the editing be more play cut play cut play cut, etc?
I like relays because the tempo and angles help you watch mechanics, matches, etc better I'd suggest doing a halo or inverse shadow around at least the players on the D as it will more easily help focus on the guy, how he's being used, formation changes etc |

Definitely, keim, rich campbell, etc are much better.. hell I enjoy some online only publications more than wapo |
The WaPo has been down a few notches for a while now IMO
I hate to say it but since JLC left it hasn't been as good. He was a leader in that kind of constant-flow immediate reporting at the time. The insider was sorta revolutionary 5 years ago. Now everyone does it. The new guy isn't nearly as good as JLC or Reid were. Not even close.
Ryan O'Halloran and Rich Tandler with CSN, Rich Campbell with the Washington Times, and John Keim with The Examiner are probably the best places to get detailed Redskins info. There are several others as well, but those stand out
They have strong insider access...trust me
Those guys are all good. Any read on why the new WaPo guy seems so...worthless? |

Should have gone with any reid (hardy har har) But seriously, I don't know. I mean the WaPo also employs Mark Maske who's great at the NFL level. Maybe some of it is the relationship with the Redskins. But I worked for a station that had major issues with the Redskins back in the day, and you just have to work around that. |
Re: Game Tape: Preseason Week 1 vs Steelers
Yeah Maske is good.

JLC was bad long before he left. Granted at one point he use to be THE MAN when it came to Redskin beat writers, especially during the Gibbs II era but after that he just became bitter and lost any sense of objectivity. Even now he bashes the team on NFL Network and loves talking about how bad the O-Line is, like its the same exact group from 09 after Samuels went down. |

I miss Thomas Boswell. Mike Jones the new guy, who is he? Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. A native of Warrenton, Va., he got his start in journalism covering sports for his hometown paper, The Fauquier Citizen, in 1999 and eventually became sports editor. Jones went on to cover the Washington Wizards for the Washington Times and CSNWashington.com from 2007 to 2010 before covering the Redskins for TBD.com for the 2010 season. He joined The Post’s staff in February, 2011. |
