so a backup LB, 4th and 5th for a pretty good corner and well.. don't know much about Gocong

You guys want a Left Tackle?

Cowboys RELEASED Flozell Adams today.

Ken Hamlin was released too if you want an under-achieving Safety.

So, I guess one could wonder whether the pukes will either draft a tackle or will press Doug Free into LT service or both. Romo better watch out. :FIREdevil

Didn't know who he was

University of New Mexico center Erik Cook is scheduled to work out for the Bengals this week, but has also been drawing interest from the Browns, Bills, Titans, Panthers, Dolphins, Texans, Raiders and Redskins. The Lobos' Most Valuable Player Award winner in 2009 was a three-year starter who also gained some experience at tackle and guard earlier in his college career.

Projected round 6-7

For other people curious.

We need a good holder and with Iupati likely off the board when we're ready to pick him, I think he would be a great value. His ability to trip players should also come in handy.

Would be ironic if he tried to trip Ware.

i think both would be decent to bring in as depth. Adams would instantly become the best OT on the team. If you consider Landry only as an SS, Hamlin would instantly become our best FS as well. Neither would be anything more than a temporary stopgap or depth signing though.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

Crap I'm now really starting to want Gaither. He's a hell of a value for a second round pick even if he's not the "ideal" zone blocking Tackle. Plus I'm starting to like the idea of a Monster Zone Blocking Line (GAITHER, DOCKERY, rabach, BIG MIKE WILLIAMS, ARTIS HICKS)
Updating the Jared Gaither saga -- for some background, click here -- there was a report from Jason La Canfora of NFL.com this week that a trade could get done for the LT with just a high second-round pick coming back to the Ravens in return. As we know, Gaither was tendered at the first-round RFA level, so if a team signed him away with an offer sheet the Ravens didn't match, they'd send their first-round pick to Baltimore.

In essence, this now means that teams who were previously scared off because they picked so high in the first round are now back in the picture. Our speculation at the time was that the Redskins (No. 37 overall) could be in that cohort, and the Raiders (No. 39 overall, unless that pick is sent to Philly for Donovan McNabb) and Bills (No. 41 overall) are into the mix too.

In exchange for a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, Gaither is a great value, according to Football Scientist KC Joyner, and depending on what happens with the LT-needy teams in the first round, Gaither could be the big story of Day 2 of the draft, per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter:

Adam Schefter
This could get interesting:
"Baltimore has a surplus of tackles, and for the right price, it will deal Gaither. Washington is one of many teams that need tackles, and what happens in the first round of the draft could dictate where Gaither is dealt in the second round. The teams that need tackles, and don't get them in Round 1, could wind up dealing a pick in Round 2 to Baltimore to get Gaither. Washington would be one of the options, but there are others. And it'll be a story to follow on Day 2 of the draft."
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

I would much rather deal my 2011 2nd rounder than my 2010 second rounder for Gaither.

SmootSmack 04-02-2010 02:08 PM

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

I'd rather wait and see what the available pool is come pick #37. If the rumors about Gaither are true, that's too many red flags in my opinion.

Even with Shanahan looking over him? If Zorn was our coach I would agree in a heartbeat but we apparently now have a disciplinarian. I do think it would be smart though to get an idea of whos around at 37 like you said. I guess the other downside is he would immediately command a large contract unlike a second round rookie.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 5)

After learning more about Gaither's issues, i would shy away from trading a high draft pick for Gaither - although i certainly think there's potential there.

Assuming we we don't trade down and go OT and QB with our first two picks, i'd much rather have okung in the first and McCoy in the 2nd than Clausen in the 1st and a 2nd round OT or Gaither with our 2nd.

That being said... The ravens really need a replacement for Todd Heap and i've seen several mocks have them taking a TE in the first round. I'd trade Cooley or Davis for Gaither straight-up, if they were interested. A deal like that would allow both teams to give up superflous players while saving their first and 2nd round draft picks to fill other needs.

Gaither may shake up the top of the draft...(Rumor)Washington could trade down from #4 to #25 in a swap with Baltimore...This move would give the Skins a starting LT(Gaither ) and the possibility pick up Clausen, or a top rated RB,DT or OLB and still have the #37 pick in the 2nd.

Sounds like a great deal to me!!!!

where are you getting your information from? If so, it sounds like a fair deal, although i would much rather trade cooley or davis in a deal involving gaither.

Has there even been legit interest in Gaither from our camp? I mean seems like the only thing that we've heard is that JLC said that we need tackles and would be an ideal candidate.

The Washington Redskins reached agreement with free agent running back Willie Parker on a one-year deal with a maximum value of $3.1 million, according to a league source.

Parker has been told there will be an open competition for the starting job.

agreed, and please don't sign Flozell!
I've always thought he was a little underappreciated due to his false starts. He's been a great LT for the cowpokes, and that's the main reason I couldn't stand to see him in b&g.

Whats with the love for Trent Williams all of a sudden? He played on a spread offense in a weak conference surrounded by All-Americans. He also wears two knee braces.

Also as you can see sometimes he wears the wrong jersey and helps the other team out.

^ Perhaps you are joking, Dirtbag. If not, I'd have to say that Williams is very athletic and moves well, just like you would want a zone blocking left tackle to do.

I also hear he has a bad shoulder and is underweight :D

Personally though I like Davis better. Davis has a much more powerful punch, slightly better footwork, and experience in a zone blocking scheme.
