Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
I can't get enough curling. It's so bad it's awesome. I almost signed up for curling lessons a few years ago, but then I got a job and had to relocate
|
Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
I'll admit to watching the curling. However, the living room TV died yesterday (vizo gv42l) so there'll be quite a bit less watching going on unless we move another TV into here.

Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
Last night the mens half pipe was sick. Theses guys are getting 20 ft of air and traveling 45 to 50 feet down the pipe in the air all while doing three twist and two flips then nailing the landing.

Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
^ Great video but someone should shut up the nerds in the comments.
Example: While centrifugal force is - in a sense - "real," his use of the term is sloppy, to say the least. Centrifugal force exists in a rotating reference frame, in other words a non-inertial reference frame. Centrifugal force would emanate from the axis of rotation but would have no real source. This is why forces in non-inertial reference frames are often referred to as fictitious forces or pseudo-forces. But I don't think this is what he's referring to."Centrifugal force" can also refer to the reaction force to a centripetal force. In this case, Vonn would be exerting centrifugal force to counteract the centripetal force. But he clearly says, "to counteract centrifugal force ...", which tells me that he's simply making the common mistake of confusing centrifugal force with centripetal. Class dismissed. Dude no one cares that much. |
Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
Watched a bit of the downhill and the halfpipe last night. I can sum up NBC's coverage thusly: Lindsey Vonn, Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Lyndsey Vonn, Shaun White, Lyndsey Vonn, Shaun White knows Lindsey Vonn, Lindsey Vonn can spell Shaun White, ad infinitum.
Holy hell, it's almost as bad as NFL announcing where they continually blow whatever star is the subject of their story lines. Kept waiting for a list of "chuck norris facts" starring Vonn & White, the new dynamic duo. In other news, that Johnny Weir dude is approaching a new stratosphere of out and proud. Man should have marched in under a rainbow flag, not that there's anything wrong with that. Dude was wearing a friggin' bustiere with pink tassels. Only thing missing was him skating to "It's Raining Men." |

Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching

i didnt watch it straight, there was a terps game on and my girl wanted to flip around too, but DAMN IT! that mens us hockey game must have came on around 2 am b/c i stayed clicking over and checking for it every freakin 5 mins just to see one womans hockey game end and another begin. i finally went to bed around 12ish. for the love of life, why cant they tell you what time events are going to be shown on tv instead of just listing on msnbc winter olympics from 7 pm to 3 am featuring: mens curling, mens us hockey, womens us hockey. gosh damnit aftter i finished watching that crap called curling, i figured mens hockey is next since it was listed next with a comma and everything but no freakin no it was womens hockey. so why they hell list it as: curling, mens hockey, womens hockey if it really is oging to be curling, womens hockey, more womens hockey then at 2 in teh freakin morning ona thursday we will show teh east coast of the us mens freakin hockey. f |

Honestly, it's hard for me to understand any sport with "judges." Just doesn't compute for me. Give me something I can measure (not you, Johnny Weir). I want definitive winning and losing, not "oh, that pirrouette wasn't sassy enough, you get a 2.5." |
Re: Winter Olympics Who's Watching
I'm annoyed that they aren't showing much hockey. I have every channel imaginable, and even with the multiple NBC related stations, I still can't get any hockey action.
I will admit, I am watching the men's figure skating final tonight. I'd love it if our guy can beat the Russian for gold. |

So funny! I guess I haven't been watching at the right time (I've been at work almost 45 hours the past 4 days), but somehow, even with a DVR, I keep missing hockey. |

That's got to help the sport. But I think my favorite part is that these announcers seem amazed by how popular curling is at these games but they don't seem to realize that a lot of the said popularity comes from the fact that the sport is so ridiculous. It's the new hipster bowling or nerd glasses. |

Canada has a very nice looking lady as well, Denmark has quite a few cuties.
