Clev's offense is simply unwatchable. They need a QB, RB, and WR's.
I think Brady Quinn could be successful given the right situation. He has the tools physically and mentally. He's on an awful team with pathetic skill players and shitty playcalling. Has a WR run a route longer than 10 yards this entire game? And his two INTs are off of tipped passes that the WRs should have caught. It's awful to watch. And yet I watch.

All the friggin screen passes my god. I'm having Ed Zaunbrecher flashbacks from the Zook era at Florida.

It's not like they don't have the personnel to protect the quarterback, but they can't figure out how to block an overload blitz.

Watching Quinn try to figure out exactly where Mike Furrey's catching radius is is especially painful. Obviously, you can't get anything down the field if your receivers can't win one on ones (and the Browns cannot), but you have to at least have a Zorn-level of complexity to your passing game, my god. It's hitch, slant, and hitch off a roll out in this offense.

I don't think Quinn has the skills. For a big strong guy he sure doesn't have an NFL arm. He's just not very skilled thrower. Now Flacco can just rip it. My god that guy can throw.

I take back everything I said about Brady Quinn. That dude is terribad! We can forget about Clausen next year because he's going to be a Cleveland Brown.
How was field position not taken into account? In both equations the field position of Indy taking control of the ball is accounted for. I remember Zorn did something similar back in his glory days of 6-2 and was hailed for being gutsy. Sometimes as a head coach you grab the game and go for it. That said I would have punted.
I probably would have punted also, the only reason being is if you punt you dont get second guessed for punting. That said,I dont think it was a bad call,Manning was tearing them a new ass and that would have sealed it for the Pats if they made it.Your right about Zorn, last yr if I remember right he went for it twice on 4th down at the end of games to seal the victory and I was like"hell yeah" because you knew Gibbs would have punted and the other team would have took it and scored. If Pats would have made it everyones talking about what a great call it was. What it was was one gutsy call, depending on the players to make a play,it just didnt work out this time.

Darrius Heyward-Bey turned a catch that would have set up a first and goal to win the game into a Mike Brown game clinching interception by showing hands of stone. He was the 7th overall pick in this years draft, ahead of Michael Crabtree.

Here's how bad it's gotten in Oakland:

When this happened, not one person was either surprised or disappointed. Observers fully expect the teams' most highly paid players to be utterly incompetent.

Did anyone else suffer through any of that debacle last night? You think we have it bad... Cleveland has one of the worst offenses I've seen in recent memory.

Wanna bet they take the NEXT great QB prospect from Notre Dame?

I did. I had a 15 point lead going in and my opponent had Balt's defense. F*ck Cleveland.

How many times did Quinn throw the ball out of bounds with nobody around? I think he's still got some potential and needs to get the hell outta there, but man he is so lost right now.

This is a prime example of a young QB getting dicked around and not being able to handle it. I think right now in the nFL you either bring a young guy in and start him straight away and try to build with the guy or you sit him one year and then hand him the reigns. Either way you have to protect him adequately and not shuffle him in and out. That is so killer to the development. He needs out of there.

I don't know how this guy made it in the 1st round and everyone saw why Mangini stuck w/ Anderson so long. Quinn simply gives Clev no chance to have any kind of down field passing game.

Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition

Quinn looked HORRIBLE. They had an easy gameplan set up for him, almost all screen passes...and they were sailing over the WRs heads. When the WRs actually had to run a route, he'd throw a pass into an area where no player from either team was within 20 yards of the ball!

He just looks lost.

The first half of that Browns-Ravens game, especially, was terrible to watch. I love defensive football but it wasn't rock-solid defenses, it was pathetic offenses. Watching him play, it is hard to believe that Quinn was drafted in the first round.

Well they certainly don't give him the chance. They either call a bubble screen/reg screen/3yd slant or he drops back and gets sacked. I can't honestly say whether he's any good or not.

Yeah. I watched that. I was sure you had the win but I just didn't count on Cleve's ineptitude.

[In line with the posts at the yahoo site, must be frustrating - you had the third highest fantasy score for the week, and lost. If it's any consolation, I had the 5th highest and still was on the losing end of the "Blowout of the Week". lol]

I thought at one time Quinn had potential - I think he is officially a bust. Not sure he is even solid back up material. He can't throw the ball downfield and, as others have said, just is lost.

It was sad to watch the Browns defense play the way they did missing 2 key starters and have their offense just lay a d@mn egg the way they did. Hats off to those guys for not giving up.

The few times he got to throw it down field he threw the ball like shit. He stinks, maybe worse than Russell.

Brady Quinn needs a change of scenery for any shot at success...and a TE like Kellen Winslow wouldn't hurt either. With Thomas, Steinbach, and Mack manning the left side of their line, it's sad that the Browns don't trust their offense to make plays.

But how about that illegal block Quinn threw on Suggs?

GTripp0012 11-17-2009 02:24 PM

Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
But how about that illegal block Quinn threw on Suggs?
I don't buy his excuse that he was going for the ballcarrier and hit Suggs in the process. I think he was just throwing himself in there hoping to assist in the overall making of the tackle.

The rules have been pretty clear about that being an illegal "block" for about five years now, but as a former quarterback, what the heck else am I going to do in an INT situation: get trampled by the convoy? It's still sort of a dumb rule. The blockers on the return aren't exactly defenseless.

Any time you throw yourself low at the legs of a player, you are risking a knee injury, so we can't act like we're shocked that this happened. He was rightfully flagged for the hit, but it was pretty much standard post-INT operating procedure.

On an unrelated note, no clue what Cleveland tries to do with their protection schemes. That's was a dreadful offensive performance from the quarterback to the right guard to the offensive quality control coach. Robert Royal? Are you guys serious? Carlos Rogers has better hands, I'm not even kidding.
