Brunell is taking way too much heat for the offensive struggles right now.
At lunch I was listening to ESPN radio and a show called "The Heard" I think, well it was abuzz with talk over talk of how the game has passed Gibbs by, Brunell stinks, blah blah. It just made me laugh. |
Well Ramsey fan has a good point on mostly everything, but let me be the one that says his opions on Brunell is CRAP.
:laughing- fair enough |

But somehow he managed to follow it up with 4 Super Bowls in the next 11 years. That was all fine and good. Now, he comes back after a 5-11 season, after they only won 20 of their previous 48 games. He goes 1-3 (2-2 without the NFL-acknowledged official's errors), and that is an indication the game has passed him by. BRILLIANT!!!!! BRILLIANT!!!!! I'm glad you were able to laugh at it. The great joy, though, will be getting the LAST laugh. I am hopeful and expectant that it will be coming to us. |
OK, I'll admit it, the game may have passed Gibbs by....BUT, Gibbs is the master of adjustments. I'm positive that even as we speak, he is already adjusting and adapting his coaching style and offense to the "new" NFL. It took him 5 games to do it the first time around, and this time he started out one win ahead of the curve. Needless to say, I was VERY dissappointed after yesterday's game, but I have the confidence that it will get better....soon (please!!!).

I've finally calmed down and I think my head is now cool enough to post in this thread.
The way I see it - this team could very easily be 4-0. I'm sure most would agree with me. That's not to say that I think this team is elite, but I do think they are solid. Unfortunately with parity in the NFL, there are about 24 other teams in the same boat as the Skins. When you are at this level your W-L will be ultimately be decided by how you do the "little things", and right now the Skins could not be worse in that department. I really think if we can eliminate the turnovers and manage the clock a little better this team can go on a run and make the playoffs. But time is running out. |
I agree CC, this team could easily be 4-0.
Turnovers have absolutely killed them (and a few bad calls against Dallas). |
Ya I tried not to blame the penalties but that Dallas game was a joke. In our home park no less!
PS - To the NFL - please don't fine a guy (Roy Williams) if you're not gonna throw the flag when it counts! |

Couldn't agree more. I think our 2004 fate will be decided in the next 2 games. |
The team could be 4-0, but they are not. Were if's and but's candy and nuts oh what a Christmas there'd be.
They could also be 0-4, but they are not. Think about that possibility too... The Redskins are what they are and that is a team that is not at the elite level of the NFL at this point and also not in the depths of the NFL either. I'm not a fan of Vinny Cerato by any stretch of the imagination but this is not his fault. I am frustrated by Matty's edict here that we use reason and logic in this thread: I wanted to call for Don Breaux to be drawn and quartered and fed to the vultures just because it is obviously his white hair on the sidelines that is blinding the pass receivers and making them drop the ball. I wanted to bash Bubba Tyrer for allowing Jon Jansen and LaVar Arrington to get hurt. What is he doing to to earn his keep here? I wanted to suggest that the FO trade Sultan McCullough off the practice squad and cash in on his HoF potential and get Payton Manning, Marvin Harrison and next year's first and second round picks from Indy in return. And if they don't do that, then they should be boiled in mule snot. And they damned well better hurry up with that trade because the trade deadline is almost upon us. I wanted to suggest that if the fans would just yell more everything would be just fine. Yeah, right... I think that the Hogettes have to take some blame too. They are probably distracting to Joe Bugel because it reminds him about how a really talented offensive line can work and then he has to go and work with this bunch of no-account sorry-assed hominids. And don't forget Danny Boy. He still looks like he has too much starch in his shorts and that has to be weighing on the players' minds as they go through their pregame stretching exercises. Oh, did I mention the rumor that Joe Gibbs was actually kidnapped by space aliens and that his brain was replaced by Richie Kotite's? Yeah, well that too... |
Ya I tried not to blame the penalties but that Dallas game was a joke. In our home park no less!
What I meant to say was "I tried not to blame the REFS but that Dallas game was A JOKE." |
1. I think it's reasonable ...<SNIP>.
Come on, everyone knows how unreasonable you are. :cheeky-sm |
SC, you forgot jimoh and our new superstar, ryan clark.... how dare you.

SC with a classic post

The over-inflation of these posts is incrediable. I don't think giving Ramsey a chance is too much of a stretch or a reasonable thing to try. I don't think Portis should be benched, nor do I think Coles should sit down unless he has a real medical problem that needs either rest or surgery. That doesn't mean that there aren't problems about the Redskins.
Let's all act like Matty. Hey guys, we're 4-0, playing flawless football. Superbowl here we come! |
Daseal, I'm well aware that the Redskins have their share of problems right now.
I guess I'm just staying a bit more patient than others. But I haven't held back in handing out criticism of the team, I've said Portis isn't getting it done, Gardner is inconsistent, Ramsey isn't ready, Brunell isn't playing great, there have been gaffes in playcalling and time mgmt, etc. I'm just saying let's try to stay level-headed about things. Cutting guys, benching them, firing people, etc., I mean c'mon, even Dan Snyder isn't this impatient or crazy. |

This reeks of sarcasm. Matty, I think this is a dig at you. Are you going to impose the infamous "Warpath Smart-A** Sanctions" on Daseal? |

I can see where Daseal is coming from. I think the last 12 years of Redskins football has left alot of fans very jaded. The first sign of adversity and everyone runs for cover. I don't remember how old you are Daseal but I'm guessing you're at least 10 years younger than me, so you probably don't really remember much about Gibbs' first run. If you've grown up with Norv, Marty and SS I guess I'd be pretty skeptical too. |

But I agree with you Matty. I remember Gibbs' first run but for those who didn't I understand the skepticism. |
I do remember the Gibbs era and so I do have a TON of hope left in me. I think Gibbs will turn this thing around by the middle of the season (Week 8 or so). I also think that Gibbs can turn this thing around with Brunell at the helm.
HOWEVER, I do remember the Norv, Marty, and Steve eras quite well. I also do not believe that Brunell is our guy. I say let the ship get righted with Ramsey at the helm. Let Gibbs and Ramsey turn this around together. After all, Ramsey AND Gibbs are our long term solution, right? We're going to have to teach Ramsey sometime (unless you plan on keeping him on the bench) and I think that time is now while Gibbs is learning. |
I'll stick up for Dasel. I completley have trust and faith that Gibbs will turn things around eventually. However, I am filled with a little skeptisim as well. It just feels like our season thusfar is just another carosel of " here we go again ... " where we always seem to be right on the brink, but fight ourselves out of contention. In Gibbs I trust, but I defintley feel and understand Dasel.

As do I (stick up for D)

I vaguely remember part of Gibbs teams. I remember winning the Super Bowl pool when I was in elementary school and making a lot of 30-40 year old men very upset, as upset as they could be after a skins super bowl win!
I don't think anyone's running for cover exactly, and I certainly don't think benching our talented players is the way to turn things around. Besides a change in QB I have no other gripe about the personel. I also think Gibbs will turn it around, but I think it's only fair to criticize him on hiss mistakes thus far. One thing we must remember. No matter how much we criticize Gibbs, it doesn't matter. He's his own toughest critic. |

And THAT is why we need to stay patient....as frustrating as it can be right now! |
I don't think many people are calling for mutiny, but you must remember how easy it is to lose players in today's NFL. He needs to get something going quick for more than just the fan.
Things will straighten up, but if we don't get some W's soon it may be without some people we see as corner-stones of the franchise. |
