Coggs is trippin.. I would take JC over Manning too. Manning is an average QB man. Id take everyone on that list..plus.. Ryan, Romo, Cutler, Bulger, and Rodgers over Manning. Hell I would rather have Sanchez and he has never even played a game yet.
Jason Campbell? HAHAHAHAHA. I'll give you the other guys are better than Eli and I do not think he is worth that kind of money either. But, Jason Campbell? Please, he is one of the worst starting QB's in the league.
He is better than Manning. Manning is awful. He just plays on a good team. Put JC on Giants and he would be putting up Fantasy Football numbers. Put Manning on the skins they probably would have been 4-12 the last four years. |
Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
It is definitely too much for Eli, and I do not like this contract. In a nutshell, Eli is not nearly as good as A LOT of Giants want to believe, but he is not nearly as bad as most non-giant fans seem to think. The Defense was the main reason they won, most of all because of the pass rush. Not sure any other team in the NFC could have beaten the Pats as they wouldn't have been able to get the kind of pressure on Brady like the Giants. Maybe Dallas, but that is about it. As far as offense, that game was a classic team effort. Jacobs and the OLine converted the 4th and 1 on the last drive. Steve Smith caught a pass on 3rd and 11 and got to the sticks and out of bounds. Tyree with his head catch (and the first TD), Burress the game winning TD with one knee. However, there wasn't one single player who jumped out as having a performance that was head and shoulders above anyone else. I thought the MVP should have been given to the entire D-Line, but you know they would never do such a thing, or the corners who shut down Randy Moss for most of the night. Wes Welker had a big game, but he is not going to hurt a team like Moss as was proven. Fans who really know the game of football could make an argument for about 6 or 7 different Giants for MVP. Tuck (2 sacks), Strahan (1 sack and on Brady all night), Steve Smith (5 catches, including the big 3rd and 11 conversion), Tyree (the head catch, 1st TD), Eli, Plaxico Burress (only 2 receptions, but the game winning TD and anyone with real football knowledge knows how he caused DC's to change their game plan), Toomer had 6 or 7 catches and just under 100 yards receiving. Like I said, no one really has anything that just jumps out at you and make you say, "WOW, that is the MVP." Could even make a case for Wes Welker and his 45 catches for 100+ yards.
I'd rather see he can win without Burress and handle the Meadowlands winds in November and December before giving that kind of cash. Hixon definitely has the speed to be the deep threat this season, but after his awful drop in the regular season loss to the Eagles last year, he didn't really get another shot. Seemed like the Giants were afraid to try and stretch the field. Without Burress and Toomer, you have to think the young guys (Smith, Hixon, Manningham, Moss, Nicks, Barden) are going to come in wanting the #1 or #2 receiver role which hopefully drives these guys to bust their asses. My guess is the season starts with Hixon as the #1, Steve Smith as the #2, Nicks as the #3 and Barden as your goal line jump ball guy. Barden is the guy out of Cal-Poly they took in the 3rd round who is about 13 feet tall. |

I really wish you were the GM of an NFC east team other than the Giants. I'm not saying Manning is a top-10 QB in the league, but I do know Campbell is a bottom-5 (amongst starters). |

That fat load a elephant poop won't get near Eli. You guys should be worried more about how many of your OLinemen are going to be healthy enough to play come September 13th.

Yeah, I remember that play. I picked up Hixon after Burress went away and really thought he was going to step up. That play would have gone for 90 plus yards and a TD, right? The pass was on the money and Hixon was 10 yards past the nearest DB. He had some good games earlier in the season as well. If I recall correctly, Plax was out of a game due to injury and Hixon stepped in and got over 100 yards receiving. The Giants also scored over 30 in that game... I think. |

Would you like to review the skins the past 15 years? The race for the NFC East is among three teams. I'll give you a hint, the skins are not one of them. You might as well start thinking about who you want the skins to draft. |

Not sure if it was 90 yards, but it was a huge play. Possibly 80, hell might even have been 90. Hixon had a monster game against Seattle when Plax was suspended by the team. He had 2 TD's and they won something like 44-6. Plax got hurt before the Skins game in Washington and the Giants won 23-7. Both of those games gave Giants fans a false sense of security that they could win without Burress. Problem is their is a difference between beating Seattle and the Redskins and beating a good NFL team. |

You sound like a Cowgirls fan. Going back to the past but not far enough to include our championships. You choked LAST YEAR. I would say that is relevant. Burress is gone and not coming back. I don't blame you for pulling for your team and we can go back and forth all night. We'll see who's standing at the end of the season. I can't wait for Orakpo and AH to meet Opie. Obviously, I am not going to bet my lungs that the Giants win it all, but I'd take whatever action you want to lay that the Skins are not. I'm not one of these blind optimist fans. I am very critical of my team, but there is no way you can objectively say the Skins are a better team than the Giants. You want to hope and pull for your squad, by all means you should. But, life on the line, you know you would choose the Giants to finish ahead of the skins. If I told you right now, Skins go 9-7, get in the play-offs as a 6th seed but lose the wild card game, you'd sign up immediately. I don't know a single Giants fan who would see that as a successful season. |

Any Giants fan who has actually looked at their roster cannot be comfortable with their WR situation. Their ability to run the ball will take them far but giving Eli $100 doesn't solve the fact that they are not a championship threat without Burress. They easily have the worst WR corps in the division and possibly the worst TE situation as well. |

I don't think so. But you Gnats fans might want to lower your expectations and accept that. You MIGHT take the first game, but it will be a long time before you beat us again. Your time is OVER. We are on the rise and just because you don't want to see it doesn't matter. You've peaked and it's all down hill from here. Opie will never see another SB. yeah, ok. first the skins were going to kick their ass, now just a few minutes later you are saying the giants might win the first game. It's ok. You guys were saying the same thing last year. The skins were going to win the opener because the Giants were not going to be prepared, all the hoopla about the Super Bowl will take their focus off the game. I doubt your oline stays healthy this year, and Spags leaving is going to hurt you. 53Fan said you might win the first game, I say no way. Your team is absolutely going to be overlooking the Skins, I don't even blame them you guys have had our number, but this is a different team, and suddenly Eli is going to look very average. I said 28-10 Skins earlier, with a pick 6 atleast. I understand looking at last year, but please where your collapse was predicated on losing Plax, ours was on injuries. You did not fix your loss, we strengthened our line (don't believe the media line). But I realize it's all speculation right now. But I can't wait for that first game! |

What makes you think they have the best D in the division? Because you said so? They could have the worst. Washington's was better and they upgraded. Dallas has a ton of talent and the Eagles always have a good D. I saw them without Burress last year and they were nothing special. Philadelphia went into your house and bitch slapped you. My 5 year old could break that down for you. |

Nope, but it has to start somewhere. This site never changes. I remember the Yahoo group/club days, I remember how excited you guys were when Spurrier was hired and the first pre-season game he coached. Skins 1st O scored TD's on their first 2 drives, and they were on their way to the Super Bowl. How did that work out? I remember the Schottenheimer (sp?) days. Yup, skins fans were excited then. Now, Haynesworth and Jason Campbell are going to lead them to glory. You're hysterical, thanks for giving me a good laugh. Wife got me Carvel, but the stupid employee f'd it up. Like I asked you before, why, because you said so? Washington's defense was better last year and they made two huge upgrades (Orakpo and Haynesworth). I know what sets up a defense and so does Cerrato that is why we picked up the single most devastating lineman in football and picked the consensus top pass rusher in college football. We also drafted another big time pass rusher in the supplemental draft. Maybe you are used to talking to Giant fans but "my team is better because I said so" doesn't fly in here. |

Re: Eli Manning's 6-Year, $97.5 Million Extension One of NFL's Biggest Deals
Coggs, I will give it to you, you guys beat us by a collective 25 points last season. The Giants were better than the Skins then. The NFL however is a "What have you done for me lately" league. You say that it is a 3 team race for the NFC east title, well we have been in the race every other year. We can sweep the Eagles, we can split the Cowboys, but we just can't seem to beat the Giants.
Well, all of that is about to change. over the past 2 years you have lost 3 playmakers (Shockey, Ward, Burress) on offense and your D coridinator. Your O line isn't going to mean shit without the talent. Your offense will struggle. Your D might be OK. You ready for this? Your team is now going to be subject to relying on their defense for wins. Now considering that you have pretty good D, you should not fret too much. I do want you to remember this though, we have been relying on Defense for the past decade and ours is a whole lot better than yours this season. We already know that we can win with shitty offense...can the VAGIANTS? |

Um, were you guys the number 1D (use any stat you want), I don't think so. Philly was far better, and our secondary/LB's are also better. Your D's strength is the Line. and that's a good thing, but to pretend that your practice is tougher than the competition you will face is flat out arrogant and ridiculous. As was said, you sound more like a Cowboys fan, than the Giants fans I used to know.(thats not a complement, but you probably take it as one.) |

He very nearly beat you almost by himself the first two times he played you (2006 Week 17, 2007 Week 3), but got shitty performances by the defense on those days. He was injured in Week 15, 2007, but considering the whopping that the backup put on the Giants that day, there's little for you to gloat about.
The best day the Giants defense has ever had against Campbell was Week 1 of last year, and it certainly wasn't sacks or pass pressure that made the difference. Campbell was sacked by Tuck on the first play of the game, and wasn't sacked or picked the rest of the game. He was just ineffective. They got much better results in Week 13, but one deep ball INT and a subsequent 8 minute TD drive against our *No. 4* defense was the difference in that one. In short, if Campbell is in fact one of the worst QBs in the league as you assert, the Giants defense is holier than Pineapple Jesus. |
