Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense
Well we can go back and forth about if it was scrubs out there and who was actually playing but its the coaching that was important. We saw very few penalties, players not running around to get into position, QB's hitting their man, a guy jumping on the on side kick, etc...ect... Thats shows that the coaches are doing a good job and the front office doing a good job picking talent. Our scrubs looked better then the Colts and this was done with a new head coach and play book. Thats what I'm excited about and it seems as Zorn does know what he is doing. I know time will tell but we got off to a good start. One other thing about the QB's and receivers. They have done a great job getting on the same page as it seemed everyone knew where everyone was on the field.

As you've stated, this is the point. Preseason is all about execution and preparedness. The Skins got a B, in my opinion. Last year, even after they won a preseason game, you just had this uneasiness about it all. |

It never felt like the offense took on a true identity, it was more of a bipolar Gibbs/Saunders than a G/S fusion. I think having the head coach in control of the O & giving extra attention to the details of the qb might in itself be enough to improve the unit. |

It's looking like the rookie wr's aren't likely to get in the rotation much by week 1. Zorn called em out! That's a big change from Gibbs' style. Joe would've said something like, "these guys are learning the pace of the nfl." Both backup OTs out as well, reminds me of last year when Heyer got to step up. Rinehart gets a chance now. |

I tell you what, and this is all in hindsight, but I'm not feeling as bitter about Gregg Williams getting fired now. Although the defense would have been stellar, I would still have some serious reservations about the offense. Because I doubt if Williams would have brought in Zorny if he his way. So the trade off was, let Gregg Williams go, and maybe lose a little on defense. But in exhange you get Zorn to run the offense, who probably was an upgrade over whomever Williams would have let run the offense. Make sense? I know, it's all conjecture. |
Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense
Redskins Insider:
"DT Anthony Montgomery and LB Rian Wallace were back doing a lot of work after breaking their hands in a scrimmage. Zorn said the team is fashioning custom casts for them - Zorn was pretty fired up about the whole fabrication process and was foaming at the mouth to be able to get in there and help make them (seriously)." LOL I think one advantage Zorn has, despite his inexperience, is his excitement. I mean, consider that you were in Zorn's position and, almost out of nowhere, you are asked to be the head coach for the Washington Redskins. The guy must feel like a kid at Christmas. |
Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense
Yeah i think we're going to be a more pass savy offense.

In his pressers, he's genuinely funny, in a spontaneous way. He's got a subtle grin and a gentle mocking tone with the reporters. But it's never mean or disrespectful. And when needed he displays his deep knowledge of the details of everything that's going on with the skins. He does NOT seem like a rookie head coach. |
Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense
i wouldn't same he's inexperienced, he's been involved in football (collegiate and pros) for 30 years. I'm sure there's a jackass out there playing Madden 09 who thinks he can coach a team.

I don't play Madden but reading the post from all the pros here I have learned enough to easly take over a head coaching job in the NFL. |

lol. Yeah, and I'm ready to be a player/coach/GM/owner. It's obviously very easy to do. What's weird is how the skins just can't see the obvious truths we all know here. Jerks. ;) |

Defensive head coaches tend to have offenses that play as though the field consists of wet cement. Herm Edwards is Exhibit A. This way, the defensive scheme stays basically intact, and the real problem, offense, gets the much needed attention. |
Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense
What we saw was the Seahawks pass offense. Quick and to the point. I like.
