football is unlike any sport. the older you get, you will reach the pinnacle of your individual success. i think Peppers has already peaked. it has been forever since the skins had a dominate pass rusher. so i understand your enthusiasm. but don't get blinded. he is definitely looking to get paid. and he has sustained his talent level, why is Carolina willing to trade him? i say no( again)
I ask the same thing.. Peppers was the talk of carolina just 2 years ago and they were talking about signing him to a HUGE deal and then all of a sudden this?? there is something behind this, and only the panthers and peppers know. They are looking to get something in return, for someone who either has a injury problem, or doesnt have the motor or explosiveness like he used to because of SOMETHING. I dont know what? but it's obvious.

You dont see the Colts trying to trade away freeney afte rhis injury last year, it just doesnt make sense and smells fishy. I wouldnt touch him with the cowboys dick.

It's a nice thought, but we are better off (financially and draft wise) because, JAred Allen was picked up in the 5th round.. If we give away our picks all the time we are never going to have a chance to land someone like him.
trust me, I live in charlotte and this guy is NOT worth throwing tons of money after. He played absolutely horrible last year. I know that is only one year, but you can't give a guy that kind of money when he is coming off the kind of year he had. He doesn't play the run all that great. He wants to get paid like a star, but does not act like one. He is not a locker room guy, never talks, never takes charge. He was the joke of Charlotte all last year. I unfortunately had to watch some of those games, and he just basically got stood up every snap. no penatration, no rush, he didn't do squat.

stay away from him.
I tend to believe people like you that live in the area. (not always, but most of the time) A lot of times people see the great seasons a player had, and ignore the huge albatross of a season they just finished. There has to be a reason for this.
Maybe a change of scenary is needed, who knows, but not sure I want to take that chance with the millions it would cost us. Go get a stud DE in the draft.

Re: Julius Peppers, now thats worth breaking the bank!

I'd be happier trading our number 1 for Julius Peppers than for Chad Johnson.
Wouldn't you?

We've all been griping about our need for a solid DE for years...one of the best may be availble...outside of dollars....Peppers will be better than anyone we could possibly draft with our first round pick....anything more than our first though would be foolish.

Getting him for a 2nd would be a steal...this guy is good folks...I dont give a crap what kind of year he had last year.....get him!
(and yes, I live in Carolina)

Absolutely not. I would not be happy trading our 1st rounder for either of them. Both will require a TON of money, and we need some youth to take over this team for the future. It's not always about today, sometimes it's about tomorrow. Keep the damn draft picks for a change and see what happens.

I am not so sure I agree with you. Campbell could be available with the 21st pick for us, and I think he could be more productive and a hell of a lot cheaper.

And if he has 3 sacks and is a non factor in the running game, would you steal feel the same way?

Re: Julius Peppers, now thats worth breaking the bank!

I agree with the folks that are saying, "Why would Carolina let Peppers go if they still expected him to be productive?" Here are three reasons to pass:

1) Peppers will cost WAYYYY too much and if his best days are "in the rear view" that would really hurt our cap.
2) We should be able to get a solid DE in the 1st Rd this year (MERLING !).
3) Daniels has at least one more solid year and he knows the system very well. Carter played well last year. Our back-up DEs appear to have potential.

Plus, don't you guys remember the last "Pepper" to come thru DC....Pepper Rodgers. :hitfan:

Absolutely agree...except...Daniels and "one more solid season doesn't mesh well with me. He is inferior.

That's a blast from the not so distant past. Wasn't he the VP of operations here before Cerrato? What ever happened to him?

While the Panthers' front office has insisted it is not trading Julius Peppers, the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end was seen in a prominent seat Sunday at a Denver Nuggets game, the Rocky Mountain News reported.
Peppers, who still has one year remaining on his contract, can't speak or visit with another team without the Panthers' permission. Despite trade rumors surrounding Peppers, Panthers GM Marty Hurney stated there was nothing to it.

The more distant Rodgers is from the Skins the better. Many of the mis-deeds early in Snyder's time can be attributed to Rodgers, Spurrier in particular. He was the VP of Football Ops before VC. If you want to keep up with our "good friend" Mr. Rodgers check out the link:

(Google searches bring up some scary stuff).

Re: Julius Peppers, now thats worth breaking the bank!

I don’t think the Panthers feel they will be able to afford his salary, that they will have to get done next off-season, especially after the inflated salary numbers we have seen this off-season. So, instead of loosing him next year without getting anything in return they figure they should at least attempt to shop him discreetly this off-season, shortly after everyone else is gone, (notice their trickery). That’s my answer to several people saying, why do you think Carolina doesn’t want him. Its not that they don’t think he isn’t serviceable, or somehow not a superstar anymore, because that statement is purely idiotic, its that they either worry about what he will demand next year while being capable of testing the market and shopping his services.

Maybe…… just……. maybe he isn’t happy there???? and they know they will lose him to free agency next year. Just my two cents.

Also, let me state again that I will be fine if they draft a DE with the first pick in the draft as I think you may have a slim chance of finding someone with the skills of pepper, a risk I feel is worth taking. I don’t have a man crush on JP, I just think that at the end of the day we would all be upset if the Panthers deal him for something stupid like several late picks....

i'm not talking about slacking off. i'm talking about losing motivation when your situation seems hopeless and, as a result, you feel helpless. its a natural human response. you feel like no matter how hard you try, your efforts are not enough. this feeling wears you down until you're eventually just going through the motions.

mind you, i'm not offering an excuse for peppers' play this season. merely an alternative perspective from which to view it.

If you have Demetric Evans, Chris Wilson, Phillip Daniels, and Andre Carter why would you need another DE, so he would take up some more cap space?

Good point, if you want depth you can get it in the draft. we've done a pretty good job in getting good defensive linemen in the later rounds (golston, montgomery...i know they're DTs, but we could get a good DE)

Outside of Andre Carter, which one of them is going to get you more then 2 sacks? I know Chris Wilson had around 3-4 last year but I dont see him being a full time starter in the NFL capable of improving our team significantly.

I know some of them may play the run o.k., but you have to be able to get to the QB to make your whole D a more cohesive unit, further opening up the playbook for Blatche allowing this D to step up to a top 5 D this year.

This isn’t a depth move; it would be a move that I feel would spring us into a top flight D in the whole NFL! If you’re going to use your first pick on a DE then I'm okay with that as well, but we need another pass rusher in a bad way.

There is no excuse for "slacking off" in the NFL. They are paid an unreal amount of money to produce on every snap. They only actually "work" (if you want to call it that) for 3 hours on a Sunday or monday. Most of the time "practice" is a joke to most of these guys. So you mean to tell me, he can't suck it up for 3 hours a week and play hardcore even though he's getting paid more than the president of the USA?
If he is that tempermental, I don't want him. What happens when he's asked to stop the run, will he run to corner and cry?

1st.) It doesnt matter if Chris Wilson becomes a full time starter off the bat. What he is doing right now is more than was expected. He had 4 sacks last year and that was in limited action. This kid will bulk up like hes being asked to and he will be a force. He had 2 sacks in the Seattle Game alone. that's 6 sacks for an undrafted rookie. How can you not see the potential in this guy? I believe he will prove you wrong, even next year.

2nd) Our defense lays the freakin run GREAT. but you only need 2-3 players capable of creating pressure and getting sacks on the dline then you have to have players who can play the run great too. I think we are on the right road. WE will be fine.

Chris Wilson needs to add about 20-30 pounds to be an every down lineman. Right now, Chris' biggest asset is his speed. If Chris adds 20-30 pounds to his frame, he'll almost certainly slow down. Could Chris Wilson (who will be 26 at the start of the season) develop into some stud D-lineman? Sure, but I wouldn't put money on that bet.

We dont need him to be an everydown lineman, and just because he bulks up, doesnt mean he will lose his burst, especially if he works on his legs. I'm happy with having him as a situational player. If he turns out to be an everydown player then awesome. If not, then oh well. But so far, there's no point to be negative about him. We are allowed to get some gems every once in a while too, and it will continue to happen to teams in the future.

Re: Julius Peppers, now thats worth breaking the bank!

he's still young enough to have 5-6 good years, but he might have hit a wall... not sure.

at his best, he's definitely worth signing, but teams don't just trade away superstud DEs, so you gotta wonder if it's injuries or locker room issues or whatnot that's making them consider this kind of move.

it's easy to buy the hype and expect 20 sacks a year, but you've got to be careful not to end up with another TJ duckett.

Thank yooooooooou!

Don’t expect him to be much more then a good option off the bench. I'm just saying we need a marquee, young and talented DE with a good combination of speed and size that we can all hang our hats on. I brought up Julius Peppers just simply because of his amazing talents, and wouldn’t want to be sitting back on my couch, like the Packers of last year, saying oh wow they were willing to deal him for a 4th rounder, i.e. Randy Moss!

I know it would probably take more but what if they would take a 2nd this year and a 3rd next, would you consider that??
