really guys you get upset of a report that has jacksonville as the 11th best situation and baltimore in the top 10 come on really If I see a worse situation is NYG come Eli sucks we all know it tiki and his last name carried his ass the past 3 years and who's his backup if he goes down you don't have a brunnell type behind him.

just a question which spot was Dal put and what did it said don't have access and curios
Eli is streaky just like alot of NFL QB's. He's had some really great games and he's had some really bad ones. He's right in the middle of the pack w/ Romo.

Re: New level of disrespect

T. Bradshaw had JC rated as the #6 "young qb" in one of the pregame shows last season. He & H. Long seemed to be impressed with him. I must be watching through rose (or is it burgundy?) colored glasses, cause I saw a kid last year w/great poise that made plays & only had a few mistakes. I certainly didn't end last season thinking that we have issues at qb! I certainly didn't think JC added to our 5-11 record. If anything, against Carolina & the Saints, he made plays that helped us win.

I think part of the reasoning that a lot of media heads are going on is thier recent history of rightly criticising the skins. Since they've questioned even Gibbs, especially when he drafted JC, it becomes hard now to say that he made a good move after all & found a qb of the future. It's way too early for any of them to eat crow, we have to win first w/JC, but I really question anyone's judgement that watched him last year & still doesn't see great potential.

Since they won't say it, I will; Jason Campbell, future Super Bowl MVP!
I don't get the Cutler stuff. Campbell and Cutler's stats are identical from last year.

I am really surprised at the degree Campbell is flying under the radar this year, outside of Washington. With a few exceptions (John Clayton, Mort, Jim Mora) people are viewing him as a de facto inheriter of the position who is more back up material, rather than the guy who was chosen and groomed by Gibbs to be the man going into the future. That idiot Colin Cowheard was trashing the Skins on his crap show and argued, who ya gonna get to play quarterback? Jason Campbell? Come on! I'll take Eli Manning and the Giants any day (he then went on to praise the Giants offensive line situation, which grants some perspective).

Last time I checked Campbell was a first round pick with a championship pedigree who played solidly in his first couple NFL starts right? Am I missing something? When did he become a mo?
I thought Jc played OK in his 7 starts and looked as he was getting better as the year went on but we have to remember he only won 2 games (I think two games) his stats were just OK. I myself am happy with JC but I would not bet the farm on him yet.

A whole lot of hype for nothing. This isn't the first article that isn't going to have the Redskins or their position players rated at the top of the league. Let the play determine the ranking come September, and let's not get our panties in a wad over some analysts idea of where the Redskins stand.

Re: New level of disrespect

I personally wouldn't want to see Brunell hit the field this upcoming season. In fact, I would be downright depressed. But, he's definately a better backup than many teams have. I'm cautiously optimistic about JC - he showed a lot of potential last year, but he is still pretty unproven.

As for the media's rankings, who really cares? They have to cover 32 teams and simply are not as familiar with our team as die-hard skins fans are. Also, I prefer to be underrated than overrated.

I agree and think a person has to earn their respect and the facts are the Redskins have only had 2005 and then just flopped last year so they need to earn the respect.

Even IF this report is right and we have one of the worst QB situations (which i completely disagree with), it doesn't mean that we are not going to be productive offensively. We do have one of the best lines in football with two very very capable backs running behind them. Also having Saunders enter his second year has got to count for something. We have a talented receiving corps with some good depth as well. Basically even if Campbell lacks talent like this breakdown suggests, we can still be a playoff team without a doubt if our offense fires on all cylinders...Now about the defense, thats the real question IMO

That's a good point. You can look at the Giants/Ravens SuperBowl as an example of poor QB teams that made it. I, for one, am very excited about JC but still keeping a "wait and see" perspective.

Jason Already Campbell, JAC, like Jacked up....speaking of jacked up, I have an idea for this years round of Chunky soup commercials.

I'd like to see McNabb and his Mom dancing around gleefully about Campbell's Chunk Soup, when suddenly a rocket spiral knocks his Mom out of her shoes. JC enters the picture and punks McNabb for his bowl of soup and says "sorry D, this is Campbell's soup", and then he walks away tossing the football to himself whistling Hail to the Redskins.

Yes, you are correct! He's got the Crazy part down, he doesn't get it.

You have to understand the role of your #2 QB, and MB fits the bill THIS year just fine! I watched the film of MB yesterday at Redskin park working out with one of our WR and Yoder and I was really suprised, he looks really good. He will fill his #2 spot just fine!

And his veteran leadership & knowledge will be very helpfull to the developement of JC.

The Skins didn't have a 2nd rnd. pick that year as I recall. They traded their first (the next year's) plus a 3rd for Denver's 1st. JC would've definitely been gone by the time the Skins picked in the 3rd.

While I don't agree w/ a lot of personnel moves we've made - see b. loyd- to go & get JC was the right one, even if he doesn't turn out to be that good. It was the right move because Gibbs believed he could be the qb of the future (as I do) for 10+ years. Paying a 3rd rnd. pick to get the guy you think can lead your franchise for years (because we swapped 1st rnd. picks) is not much of a price.

I guarantee you, in 5-6 years, when people are debating Gibbs II, they will look back at his drafting JC as a major coup.

yes this is the trade

1) Denver traded its first-round pick (No. 25) to Washington for the Redskins’ third-round pick (No. 76) and 2006 first- and fourth-round picks, April 19. Washington selected Auburn QB Jason Campbell. Denver selected Washington State CB Karl Paymah.

what everyone was saying is that gibbs could have traded with some of the high 2nd round teams and pay a lot less not only in draft picks but $$$$ and because the trade was unnecessary made pre draft gibbs didn't look how the draft was developing and who was willing to trade out later on which some teams would definitely do.

Gibbs taught Rodgers would be the second qb taken no later than the top 10 so he new a team might like to take campbell i nthe first round nobody expected Rodgers to fell so bad that's why you wait and don't make trades before the draft and it isn't as if it came cheap to make the trade earlier.

Our QB situation isn't great, especially with Brunell and collins. Hopefully JC can step up and be at least a decent QB. If JC gets hurt were done. I'm not completely sold on JC but I'll be rooting like crazy for him to due well or this season will be a wash. I just wish we could get rid of this Brunell experiment. Yes he had respectable stats last year. You know why? Becasue when it was 3rd and 8 Brunell would throw 5 yard pass to Betts for a 6 yard gain. Looks good in the stat sheet, but it didn't do shit to help move the chains, or help the team win.

And yes he played well for most of 05. But do you remember the end of the season and in the playoffs? He was downright dreadful. I still don't know how we beat TB with 41 yards passing.

Let the media say what they will... Do I think we're better then they have rated us Yes... but Have the Redskins showed any consistency since Gibbs has returned...

NO.

The past few years the redskins have always been give more credit then they were due by the media in the past few years because of all the big free agents DANNY like to bring in... and we always seem to look good on Paper.... Well I am frankly tired of all the pre-season hype and the let down during the real season...

The Skins need to work their asses off in TC and make progress all preseason, use the preseason games to improve and tune weak areas... Then get out there and kick some freakin ass and prove everybody wrong again. They proved em wrong the past few years when everyone has picked us as favorites and we flop and go 5-11. Let's prove them wrong the other way around DAMN IT!

Up until the last game he started, he was doing a great job moving the chains though.

Note that he ranks 15th in total QB value (of which converting first downs/moving the chains are the biggest factor) from last year...and he didn't even start the last seven games of the year. Had he gotten those starts...I'm not sure he would have ranked too much higher. But its still very telling that more than half the starting QBs in the league didn't accrue as much value in 16 games as Brunell did in 9.

Names like Eli Manning, Jake Delhomme, JP Losman, David Carr, and, Rex Grossman...among others. Not as many successful plays in 16 games as Brunell had in 9.

I just don't think he can make it through a season anymore.

I probably should look at the website, but do those first downs account for average yards to go or yards after the catch. The reason I ask is that I feel ol' Mark got a LOT of assistance from his supporting cast last year. Betts was always money after the catch which was typically a short dump off, far short of the sticks. I just remember last year having new heart attacks watching Mark dump off two or three yards down the field only to feel a sigh of relief to watch our receivers make players after the catch.

Well, when the games were on the line, we were not moving the chains and our scoring was down. We had some games against Dall. NYG and Phil where we could barely get 1st downs. Not all his fault. But teams just had no respect for our passing game and there were 9 guys always lurking around the line killing our running game. Once JC took over one thing I noticed was that the running game started to take off.

I think he will do fine if we need him for 1 or 2 games and that's it. That way he will be 100% healthy because it seems the injuries really affect his play.

skinsfan69 07-11-2007 07:57 PM

Re: New level of disrespect

No NFL offense works when you throw 5 yard passes and depend on guys running after the catch to get 1st downs. Most of the time you have to throw the ball past the 1st down marker in order to consistently make 1st downs in the NFL. And that's what was so frustrating with Brunell last year. I don't think he was ever comfortable in the new offense.

Well, he is not our starting QB anymore so we don't have to talk about him. He should do fine in the backup role if his shoulder is OK.

I'm confident about JC heading into the year. I think he should be pretty solid. He doesn't have to beat teams most days, just keep defenses honest so they can't over play the run. If he gets teams to back off the line of scrimmage, we should compete to win almost every game. A few takaways on D at opportune times and we should be in for some extra wins this year. I'm hearing that the tell tale signs will be his completion percentage and our points per game. That sounds about right to me. I think we have a good chance to improve in both categories.
